You know what they say about wine: the older it is, the better it gets. But what about wine that was literally fermented with the usual stuff and with something that’s extremely old? Like roughly around 4.5 billion years old?

Apparently, not so bad. But you might have to try it out yourself by grabbing a bottle of of Meteorito. The wine was basically a fusion of interests for Ian Hutcheon, who runs a vineyard and this astronomy center in Chile called the Centro Astronomica Tagua Tagua.

What he did was ferment the red wine by putting the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with the three-inch meteorite inside the wooden barrel. The wine is then bottled twenty-five days later.

So how does Meteorito taste compared to the non-meteorite version of the wine? According to Hutcheon, it is “livelier.” But hey, maybe that’s what something from space can do either to you (or to the wine.)

Each bottle of Meteorito costs just £7 (~$11 USD), and over 10,000 have so far been fermented.

Apple has one of the sharpest and fastest-acting legal teams out there because there have actually been a lot of otherwise cool Apple or Steve Jobs-related products that have been pulled out of shelves because of trademark issues (like the Steve Jobs Frozen in Carbonite iPhone Skin. Remember that?)

Another product that’s up for a possible quick “cease-and-desist” is Facedrink. And it’s pretty obvious which company’s going to be wanting to pull this drink off of Amazon.

Facedrink is dubbed as “the social drink,” obviously a play on Facebook, “the social network.” But really, Facedrink is just an energy drink and I doubt there’s anything truly special about it, except for its packaging. As a matter of fact, one of the customer reviews say it tastes “god awful.”

The company’s website claims that it’s the drink that “gives you social energy – but really, what exactly is social energy?

Even Facedrink’s website kind of looks like Facebook. I wonder how long it will be before Zuckerberg and his team take notice of this, but I don’t think it will take long.

As if the inclusion of zombies in the upcoming PS3 game Yakuza of the End wasn’t weird enough, check out this wacky product tie-in. This bright yellow concoction is Yakuza of the End liquor, and it’s also the only time that I can remember seeing a SEGA name on a bottle of booze.

Apparently, the beverage is a specially packaged bottle of Awamori, a distilled alcoholic rice drink served in Okinawa. This particular batch is flavored with Shikuwasa – a sour lime-like citrus fruit also found in the area. From the sounds of that, this is going to be one intense, pucker-inducing drink – appropriate after a long day of zombie killing and gangland hits. Or maybe just for making Molotov cocktails.

If any of you guys live in Japan, pick up a bottle and let us know how it tastes. Given the questionable flavor track record for video-game themed beverages, I’m not holding out high hopes.

Can a Slurpee really make for a news story? If it features a revolutionary dual-flavored Slurpee, I don’t see why not. Thanks to 7-Eleven’s crazy new double-Slurpee cup you’ll be able to get a brain freeze from two flavors at the same time.

At one point or another, I’m sure we’ve all tried in vain to combine two or more flavors – most of the time turning them into an oddly-colored mush. By developing a special split compartment cup, along with a dual-source straw, you can enjoy two flavors from the same cup. Not only will you look cool doing it, you can decide whether they want to sample flavor individually, or to mix them to a degree of your choice. That’s thanks to the special valve in the middle of the straw contraption. You can expect to find the new double Slurpee cup and straw in 7-Eleven stores starting in June.

I know, I don’t know why I should be so excited by the prospects of mixing artificially-colored, frozen sugar water, but I am. I’m sure if this goes over well, we’ll see a tri-chambered Slurpee in 2012.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I think the whole DIY movement has gone a bit to far. Take, for instance, this kit which lets you make your own cola (presumably, just like the cavemen had to do.)

The Caveman Cola kit includes the key ingredients for making your own competitor to Coca-Cola and Pepsi (that’s more than likely going to taste worse than warm RC.) Inside the box is some cola extract, yeast, a brewing funnel, labels for your cola concoction, along with the instructions for making your science experiment work. You’ll need to provide some unnamed “natural ingredients” (I’m assuming some sugar, food coloring and the like), as well as your own bottles.

You can find the Caveman Cola kit over at Copernicus Toys for $13.99 (USD). Or you could just buy a 12 pack of Coke a few dollars less.

This officially wins the Chindōgu award of the week. Seems our friends over at Evil Mad Scientist Labs are at it yet again. Hot on the heels of those delicious Asteroids cookies, they’re back – this time with a robot that makes cocktails. Not just any old drinks, but White Russians to be specific.

Created for BarBot 2010 (which we reported on yesterday), EMSL’s descriptively-named Drink Making Unit is a digitally-controlled bartender. After initial false starts using ketchup bottles and servo motors, the EMSL guys decided on a simpler solution for cranking out drinks – breast pumps. Specifically, the Evenflo Comfort Select Performance. There’s nothing comfortable looking about that thing, and I’m not a woman.

With a little modification of the suction pumps, some stainless and flexible plastic tubing, and some carafes, the mechanism was complete. They then set up a custom-programmed Meggy Jr RGB unit to act as the drink controller.

A couple of flicks of the buttons – a squirt of vodka here, a drip of Kahlua there, and big a pump of cream, the deafening roar of breast milk pumps, and a couple of minutes of your time… One White Russian without humans. Except for the ones who had to design and build this contraption, buy and load the ingredients, and press the buttons.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Now all I need is a cocktail drinking robot and I’ll be all set.

Now here’s the perfect partner to that brainy pastry – the Bloody Brain Shooter.

The brain-like goo in this case is just Bailey’s Irish cream. It ends up like that because the drink itself is vodka mixed with lime juice. The lime juice causes the cream to curdle a little and voila – Baiiiiiiiileeeeeeeeeeeeyssssss.

When I first saw this I thought it was one of those so-simple-it’s-brilliant kind of things, but then I remembered how dirty the tops of canned drinks usually are. No rat piss on my Coke please, thank you. Not that rats piss on Coke cans here. They don’t, honest. I think.

But seriously the tops of canned drinks can be really dirty; one commenter on Boing Boing Gadgets agrees with me and gives the thumbs down to the Bottle Tops as well. But the others say that it’s perfect for beer for a couple of reasons – one, because it keeps the carbon dioxide from escaping, so you don’t have to worry about not being able to empty huge cans of booze, and two, because if you cover the can itself the bottle top makes it look like you’re drinking an energy drink. In other words, it keeps the fizz in and keeps the fuzz out.

But the dagger ended up to be the product’s quality: several commenters claimed that the edge of the bottle tops wore off after a while and couldn’t snap on cans anymore. It’s cheap though: $10 (USD) at Taylor Gifts for a pack of 12.

The Gears of War geeks over at Gearspedia describe Imulsion as “a phosphorescent, highly volatile, low-viscosity fluid originally discovered by an oil exploration drill on the planet Sera.” They go on to say “direct exposure to Imulsion for any length of time will cause Locust subjects to transform into Lambent forms, making them, amongst other things, highly explosive when killed. In extreme cases, Imulsion exposure will cause the subject to mutate uncontrollably…”

So why not turn Imulsion into an energy drink? Sounds yummy to me.

That’s what the guys over at Boston America have done with this sticky sweet yellow concoction being sold under the GOW brand name. I bet if Marcus and the Gears had been drinking this stuff all day long, they would have been much more efficient at curb-stomping the Locust Horde. But the Gears’ loss is your gain, and you can buy a case or two for yourself.

Imulsion Energy Drink is available over on Amazon for $2.99 (USD) a can. Drink up.

Nuka-Cola is the popular soft drink from the megahit video game Fallout. Not only is it tasty, it can also restore a small amount of health. It can even be used to make drugs and grenades. As an homage to this very useful beverage, Kotaku reader Tugrik and his friends revitalized a beat-up 1970s vending machine to make it look like a beat up Nuka Cola vending machine!

Here’s a side view of the machine:

Unfortunately, Tugrik doesn’t go into the details of the machine’s geekification, saying only that “We just dressed it up for a shop party this weekend on a whim. The machine is an old Vendo96 with stickers designed by my friend Peggy and printed on our large-format printer.” And what’s a Nuka Cola vending machine without Nuka Cola?

They even have the glowing Nuka Cola Quantum!

Unfortunately Tugrik et al don’t have the Quantum Chemist perk, so that’s not a real glowing Nuka Cola Quantum. That’s just a Lemonade bottle with an aqua blue LED taped to its bottom. Still looks awesome though! Check out the rest of Tugrik’s pics here.

The cherry flavored drink is the perfect cure for cooling you down when you’re infected with Pac-Man Fever. This stuff is loaded with sugar, caffeine, and all that good stuff that makes an energy drink an energy drink. Down a dozen and chase ‘em with a couple of packs of Sweet Tarts for good measure. That should definitely get you buzzing for the day.

You can grab an 8.4 ounce can of the sticky-sweet liquid refreshment over at Amazon for $2.99 a pop.

How many times have you walked into the employee break room to grab a cup of Joe, only to find that some ass-hat has “borrowed” your coffee cup out of the cabinet? Well now, you can finally do something to make sure that your mug is safe from pilfering by co-workers once and for all.

Spinning Hat’s Plug Mug features an ingenious design that ensures that only the person in possession of the watertight drain plug can partake of a cuppa without ending up with a scalding hot lap full of liquid. And you’ve got no reason to feel guilty if that were to befall Susie Secretary when she walks off with your cup. If the bright exclamation mark and stop sign and gaping hole in the side of the mug aren’t sufficient warning, she fully deserves what she gets.

You can grab the Plug Mug over at UK gadget shop I Want One of Those for £9.99 (Appx. $14 USD.)

Can’t drink any more Coca-Cola? Pooped out on Pepsi? Sick of soda pop? Thanks to the miracles of home carbonation, you can turn anything you want into a fizzy lifting drink (lifting not guaranteed).

Just get your hands on the $6.95 U-Fizz kit, a box of baking soda, some vinegar and a couple of soda bottles, and you can make everything from carbonated juice drinks to more offbeat concoctions like CO2 loaded Jell-O. Hmmm… That gets me thinking… I wonder what would happen if you dared to put some Diet Coke and Mentos in this contraption? Maybe the world would explode.

Now from what I can tell, the U-Fizz (aka the Soda Shaker) looks like about 50 cents worth of plastic tubing and bottle caps, so the markup seems a little excessive. But who among us has time to run out to the neighborhood scientific supply store to buy all the stuff you need to make your own? I certainly don’t.

So head on over Edmund Scientifics and tell us about the craziest carbonated concoction you come up with. Me? I’d like to see what happens when I make my own Starbucks bubbly half-caff no whip 120-degree grande macchiato mochacinno- extra bubbly, please.

For those of you science geeks out there, here’s a handy presentation on the subject called “How Carbonation Works“. I’m definitely using that PowerPoint deck at my next business meeting.

Looking for something to give you the power to kick, punch and super combo your way through the day? Why not start the day right with a 24-pack of this sugary-sweet Street Fighter energy drink?

The cherry-flavored drink should give you enough raw energy to beat-’em-up just like Ken or Ryu. (Technabob does not sanction actually beating anyone up, unless it’s in the virtual world.) Despite the drink’s “Dragon Punch” moniker, I have the distinct urge to mix this stuff with some rum and fruit juice to make myself a potent Hurricane Kick.

Dragon Punch is available for $2.98 (USD) for an 8.4oz. can over at Robert’s Anime Corner Store. If you really fall in love with the flavor, you can pick up a 24 pack for $64.98.

[Street Fighter not your thing? Mega Man, Donkey Kong and Super Mario all have their own energy drinks too.]

Created by Taiwan’s MOD Design, Reset Cups are larger-than-life versions of the “Ctrl-Alt-Del” keys, typically used to reboot or login to your Windows PC. Each set of three key cups ship with a matching circuit-board embossed tray (which sort of reminds me of TRON for some reason). MOD will be making them in both a white-on-black and black-on-white version, so you can match them with the color of your keyboard.

Other than the fact that MOD showed off the Reset Cups at the recent Maison + Objet design show in Paris, there’s no further information on when or where you’ll be able to buy these yet. I guess for now, you’ll have to settle for pressing the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys on your PC over and over agin.

Wanna look really cool at your next party? When you ask your pals if they’d like a cocktail ask if they want it on the rocks. If they say yes, fix their drinks and bring ‘em back with some of these ice cubes that are actually made from stone.

Just chill these special ice cube rocks in your freezer for about an hour before use. 2 or 3 rocks should keep your drinks nice and chilled. Originating from Sweden, the cubes are cut from a natural stone called Nordic Rock, known for its ability to retain cold (and to occasionally carry a tune). When not in use, you can keep the rocks in the included leather pouch. This also serves as a handy weapon if you feel the need to beat someone over the head.

You can grab a set of 10 rocks from UK gift retailer Mocha for £15.99 (appx. $29 USD). Rock on!

Hmmm. Would you rather be caught drinking on the job, or sneaking sensitive company data out of the office? Now you don’t have to choose, thanks to this new portable hard drive that looks just like a hip flask.

iomega’s eGo Leather Hard Drive may not actually carry your booze, but it will hold up to 250GB of your favorite files, so you can sneak them around any place you can carry an open container. The drive is a dead ringer for an actual hip flask, complete with curvy metal ends and a rich leather wrapper. And just in case you really do go out on a bender and drop the thing on the ground, it’s got built-in Drop Guard protection to keep your data safe.

I say, why not keep one of these in your inside left pocket, and a real flask in your inside right? Of course, just don’t make the mistake of opening your real flask and pouring your 30-year old Glenfiddich onto your keyboard. Now that would be a true crime.

It’s available now over on ThinkGeek for $149.99.

Not to be outdone by Mario and his Power Up Energy Drink, it looks like the plumber’s simian adversary just had to have his own peppy beverage.

Recently sighted on the shelves over at New York’s Nintendo World Store, the Red Bull-esque energy drink comes in a skinny red can featuring the likeness of the big ape himself, DK necktie and all. Loaded with ingredients like taurine, caffeine, inositol, guarana extract, panax ginseng extract, and plenty of high fructose corn syrup, it’s bound to give you an initial jolt (then a ride on the sugar crash express).

The guys over at MTV Multiplayer conducted a taste test of both Nintendo beverages and found that they not only tasted identical, they tasted identically crappy. If you don’t mind the color of Pepto Bismol, the smell of bubble gum and the flavor of carbonated Kool-Aid, then maybe you’ll enjoy a can or two.

If that doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, then maybe just grab a few and keep ‘em on the shelf for the cool can design. If you don’t happen to live near the Nintendo World Store, you can also order cans of the concoction from Anime Castle for $2.25 each.

A little while back, I told you guys about a nifty coffee mug that could automatically change states from “on” to “off” when a hot beverage hit its surface. While that mug turned out to be insanely popular, many of you pointed out the fact that a simple change in the design to read “hot / cold” would make infinitely more sense. Well ask, and ye shall receive.

The gang over at Charles & Marie listened to your feedback, and have worked with Dutch designer Damien O’Sullivan to produce a new version of the minimal black-and-white mug that says “cold” when it’s cold, and “hot” when it’s hot. It’s amazing how one small text change can really make such a difference. Heck, just the utility of knowing when that coffee that’s been sitting in there all day long is cold as ice should be enough to merit the $25 price tag.

Charles & Marie is now offering the Hot/Cold mug on a pre-order basis now, so if you want one, you’d better head on over and place your order. They should start shipping in about three weeks.
