While I haven’t played some of the more recent Super Mario titles, I always remember the little plumbe fondly. It’s kind of surprising that he is celebrating 25 years! You’d have thought that he would have grown older and wiser, but he’s the same old Mario as before (but a little softer around the edges thanks to increased graphical resolution).

Not only does this particular cake offer up birthday wishes properly (happy belated, @GDruckman!), but it’s even got the cute little Twitter birdie. Also? Chocolate. Sounds like an excellent combination to me.

There is a detailed and often hilarious tutorial on I’m Not Charming that tells you exactly how to make it, with pictures of each step of the process. Note that several of the steps include marveling at one’s own mastery, drinking wine, and taking naps.

She made the cake for her boyfriend’s birthday, and upon seeing it, he proposed. Ladies, take note. Spending 2 days making a game controller cake could pay off in unexpected ways!

It turns out a lot of people have attempted this feat with varying degrees of success, but this one takes the cake. (Ha! Takes the cake. I’m so clever.) This is coming to you from the same lovely lass who takes time out to knit Transformers-themed washcloths for her children. In this case her aunt was roped in to spending what I would guesstimate is the better part of a weekend making this elaborate silvery Autobot logo cake.

All I can say is, this family has got time, talent, and patience to spare. I bet all the other parents in the neighborhood see this stuff and think, “Oh great, now little Timmy is going to think I ruined his birthday by stacking HoHos into a cake shape and sticking candles in it.”

I predict that this kid is going to turn out to be either a) a totally spoiled brat, b) the most awesome and powerful reincarnation of Optimus Prime, or c) a weirdo with a basement full of mint-condition Transformers. Oh wait. I have a basement full of mint-condition Transformers. Huh. How ’bout that.

Dig Dug was one of the first games I mastered, so if anyone wants to make these for me, feel free. In fact, seeing these inspired me to fire up my Firenes app and check out how accurately these pillows were rendered. Of course, I ended up playing a few rounds. The verdict: I am no longer a master. So I’m gonna have to wrap this up and get back to practicing.

The fake channel is actually a 30th birthday greeting that Pape created for a friend of his (who happens to be a fan of The Doors, hence the music.) He even went so far to develop a fake case and DVD to package it in.

It’s really a pretty amazing emulation of the design and interface styling of the Wii. Two thumbs way up, Paul!
