Is it possible that this boat might be one of the first completely self-sustaining water crafts available? I don’t know, but the description sure makes it sound like it is. The new MIG 675 cruiser boat will harvest its own hydrogen directly from the sea. Since it runs on hydrogen, it can use the ocean to power itself.

The onboard generator will provide live hydrogen production, meaning that you won’t have to worry about unstable hydrogen tanks which might blow up in the rough seas. The only emissions of this boat are water vapor. It’s produced by Quimperié, a French company, and they aren’t saying if the boat needs other types of fuel, or if it can operate indefinitely using seawater.

The hydrogen generator will power all of the electrical devices, which include a GPS, a 10-inch touchscreen controller, and an electric anchor roller. The boat has a 500 horsepower motor and is supposed to go up to 70 mph. The boat itself is a 22-footer that weighs 2,866 lbs. The hull is made out of aluminum. There are more goodies, but you’ll have to spend €250,000 (~$326,000 USD) to find out for yourself.

Sick of the sea? This new motorboat from Iguana Yachts will deploy treads and let just drive your fancy ship right out of the water when you’re ready to get back on dry land. Why does this remind me of a James Bond movie?

The Iguana 29 has retractable tank treads that will deploy when needed. The treads are powered by electricity, so they don’t make much noise, either. This means that to beach or dock the boat, you won’t need any help at all. It’s also designed to help you get out of a jam at low tide or if you get too close to a sandbar in shallow waters.

It was created by Antoine Fritsch. The idea was to create a design for the treads that wouldn’t compromise the look of the hull.

While there are already other amphibious boats, none of them look as stylish or modern as this one. The Iguana 29 is available starting at around €215,000 (~$280,000 USD).

This has to be one of the most unusual household appliances I’ve ever seen. What you’re looking at here is an old Johnson outboard motorboat engine, converted into a blender. Why? Because nobody had done it before, I guess.

According to the description of this thing, this 1958 Johnson Sea Horse 18 outboard motor has had its guts replaced with a small Homelite 2-cycle motor, which powers the blender that’s been built into the top. All in all, it took the guy who made it 6 months to engineer and build this gas-powered blending beast.

Don’t believe that this thing actually works? Watch as its creator fixes an icy-cold cocktail with one pull of the starter handle.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Well, that answers that. If you want it, head on over to Etsy where you can get your hands on this thing for $2,800(USD), which also happens to make it the world’s most expensive blender. My only concern is the mixture of gasoline vapors, exhaust and tequila mix might make for one mean hangover.

Have you ever felt the need for an emergency boat? Nope, me neither. Well, in any case, the Israeli designer Ori Levin from Tsor Design created Adhoc, a full-sized canoe that can be folded into a bag of the size of a standard backpack. Not bad. Now, in case of a zombie apocalypse near a body of water, you’ll be ready no matter what.

The Adhoc weighs only about 9 lbs., and the materials used were carefully selected to be lightweight and resilient. They include carbon fiber and Aramid, a sort of heat-resistant fabric used in racing sails. There is a corner lock that holds the telescopic poles in check and a parasol-like mechanism in the center so that the overall structure is maintained.

The boat can be assembled in about 5 minutes, which makes it a lot quicker than inflatable rafts. Although those can be inflated automatically with air canisters, I’m sure that people will find a use for this portable canoe.

Sometimes it seems like the military wants to shed all the people from many aspects of its operations. We will always need eyes on the ground, but many tasks are now being handed over to robots and drones. The USAF has the most drones, but the Navy is getting some robotic machines too. The Navy is testing a new robot jet ski called the Blackfish.

The Blackfish apparently starts as a normal jet ski, then QinetiQ, the company that makes the Blackfish, hacks the top off and crams a bunch of sensors inside what’s left. Those sensors allow the Blackfish to see under the water and on top of the water to look for attackers that might be swimming up to attack Navy ships.

The Blackfish will be able to be remotely controlled at distances of up to 1KM and can also be autonomous and patrol pre-set GPS waypoints. Care was taken to be sure the jet ski could go slow enough to be useful for surveillance. Bow thrusters were added to allow the Blackfish to move slowly enough in the water. The Blackfish is 10-feet long and can hit 40mph on the water.

I like to swim and I have always though SCUBA diving would be cool as long as it was in water shallow enough that sharks couldn’t sneak up on me. I’m not for diving down to the kind of depths in a submarine where the pressure is so great you are one leaky valve from getting a testicle shot off by a billion psi of ice cold ocean water squirting through a crack.

I imagine that is exactly what would happen if you were to say, spring a leak at the bottom of the deepest oceanic trench on earth. A really cool looking submarine has been unveiled called the Triton 36,000. The sub is designed to dive as deep as the ocean goes with two lunatics sitting inside the clear glass dome.

That dome is most of the high-tech science here. The thing is made from some sort of fancy glass concocted at Rayotek Scientific. The design of the dome allows it to actually get stronger the more pressure is on it. The sub is strong enough to dive at 500 feet per minute to the bottom of the 35,797 foot Challenger Deep, which is the deepest part of the Mariana Trench. A leak at that depth and the last thing you would hear would be your co-pilot screaming “OW! My Balls!” Would you ride this thing to the bottom of the ocean?

How about them PS3 Move acccesories? Ain’t they funny? The Kinect won’t stand for that. Its revolutionary hands-free technology must be marred by silly add-ons too! But an accessory won’t do, simply because there is no controller to accessorize, unless you want the Kinect camera to wear hats or have arms and legs. No, the perfect way to ridicule the Kinect is through this 60-inch boat:

The Game Boat is a replica of the dinghy that appears in one of the games in Kinect Adventures, the starter bundle of games for the Kinect, akin to Wii Sports. Here’s what Atomic Accessories has to say about their product: “Game Boat is de facto the first accessory for the peripheral which doesn’t need any.” So they already knew that…and yet…never mind. And before anyone asks, yes, the Game Boat is a boat, so you can use it for boating purposes. That’s realism, Kinect-style. So if you have access to a bunch of lion and tiger cubs, go ahead and package them as Game Cubs, ideal for Kinectimals.

I’ve also found that Heliotrope Home already has a product page up, and lists the price at $16.95 (USD).

Summer is here in Texas and it’s so hot already that ol’ Beelzebub himself won’t come to these parts until late in October. With it being so hot, you can count on folks making it to the lake or down to the coast. There are also many people that hit the backyard pool to keep cool as well.

No matter where you go for your water fun in the summer, this awesomely sweet Divetek inflatable raft thingy by designers Chao-yang Chou and Sian-Zong Chen is the coolest water toy you could possibly have. Sadly, it’s only a concept.

There’s two ways you can use the Divetek. First, you can blow up the inflatable raft on the back and use the motorized front-end propeller to pull you around. The other method involves deflating the raft portion and actually using the propeller to scoot you around under the water.

I don’t know if this is that revolutionary, but for a moment I was impressed with the fact that this battery-powered ferry can travel about 80 km with 800 passengers on board.

IHI Marine United is the maker of this plug-in ship that is powered by lithium-ion batteries. This ship is called the Zero Emission Electric Propulsion Ship. I’m not surprised that it’s Japanese with a name like that.

The ship can recharge its batteries at the ports it visits. The design prototype will be 100 feet long and will carry 800 people, and the amount of electricity needed to power it is 200 to 300 times more than what’s needed for an electric car.

80 km, that’s about 50 miles, which isn’t that long, but it makes sense for a ferry that makes frequent, short trips to be powered by electricity. The company hopes to develop a commercial vessel by 2015.

Too bad this Lego sushi is inedible, because it looks oddly delicious! I love the wasabi- that’s got to be a specialty color.

I must be in serious need of a snack because I actually drooled a little bit when I saw these pictures. Of course, it’s hard to tell if that’s because of my love of Legos or sushi- maybe both.

These tasty-looking treats are from Big Daddy Nelson’s flickr page. You can see more photos of the sushi (as well as other lovely Lego landscapes) there!

And now, here’s a completely different take on combining sushi and Legos- it’s real sushi presented on a lego train, sushi-boat style. I guess it’s one way to get that sushi-boat experience from the comfort of your 4-year-old’s bedroom. Check out the video here.

This radio-controlled tank proves that armored military vehicles don’t always carry a deadly payload. In fact, this one delivers a cold, frosty one instead.

The beverage bearing R/C tank doesn’t really care if you drink Bud Light or Bawls, but it will make sure your thirst is quenched, thanks to its 4 built-in can holders.

Not only can it deliver delicious drinks, the little tank can fire 6mm BB bullets at targets up to 90 feet away. That’s right, don’t mess with my Brewskis! Thankfully, there’s a flashing warning light that lets you know to get the heck out of the way. Of course, these Engrish warnings from the manual don’t make me feel too warm and fuzzy about the safety of this thing.

Did I happen to mention that it’s amphibious? Yep, the tank can travel on land or in the water, thanks to a retractable 4-wheel drive mechanism.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

When you get near a body of H2O, just flip a switch on the remote and the wheels retract as the tank converts to boat mode (although they do get in the way of the drink holders when stowed).

So what’s not to like? You can find the beer-toting, gun-packing, land-driving, water-floating R/C tank here for £44.99 (appx. $92 USD).

Created by Denmark’s Lantic Systems, the gold remote is designed for operating home media and automation systems including video, audio, internet, CCTV, alarm, lights, curtains, air-conditioning and even navigation systems. Oh yeah, I guess I didn’t mention that when I said ‘home’, I meant ‘yacht’.

Assuming that you’ve got a yacht (or maybe a fleet of yachts), this $55,000 gold remote will look great alongside your solid gold anchor.

Here’s a speaker for your computer that’s unlike anything I’ve seen before. The Nexspeaker FS-701SW sound system is designed to look like a wee sailboat that you can set on your desk.

Left and right channel speakers are embedded into the sails, while the boat’s hull serves as the woofer. The sails are rated at 7.5-watts each, while the woofer can pump out 15-watts. I think it would look great sitting next to the USB airplane fan, to help round out your desktop transportation museum.

Since the Nexspeaker is currently only available in Korea, you might need take a taxi to a plane to a train to get this boat in your hands. It’s available from eShopworld for 52,000 KRW (appx. $57 USD).

The water cannon floats around your swimming pool, and can remotely fire 20-foot blasts of water at unsuspecting victims from up to 40-feet away. The cannon is propelled using a system similar to the nozzles that drive tugboats around, so you can maneuver it quickly and easily. It can even do 360-degree spins.

Two versions are available (orange and green), which run on independent radio frequencies, allowing battles between you and a friend.

The remote water cannon is $129.95 from Hammacher Schlemmer.

Those of you lucky enough to own a boat can now watch high definition satellite TV when you head out to sea. This marine satellite antenna system continually adjusts to point at the correct location in the skies for you to watch HD satellite programming wherever you go.

Raymarine offers a variety of satellite television antennae designed to work even in extreme weather and sea conditions. The systems dynamically correct their beam to ensure uninterrupted TV viewing.

Complete systems including an antenna, control unit and an HD DirecTV receiver range from about $7,000 to about $9,000. I suppose that if you can afford to own a boat big enough to need an HDTV, that kind of money is just a drop in the bucket.
