The concept is simple. Left side: Test subject enters orange portal; Middle: ???; Right side: Test subject exits blue portal. While it’s not a wholly original concept, these aluminum Portal bookends look even more refined than the originals we spotted on Reddit over a year ago. Since the guy who made the original apparently didn’t take our advice and open an Etsy shop, ThinkGeek went ahead and started selling these so we can all enjoy them on our bookshelves too.

This time, the bookends are officially-licensed Portal merch, so you don’t have to worry about Cave Johnson coming over to your house and throwing some combustible lemons your way for violating his intellectual property rights.

You can grab a pair of Portal bookends over at ThinkGeek now for $25 (USD).

Looking for a place to put your collection of Star Wars books? While you could grab some of those trash compactor bookends, you might want to put a set of these Jabba’s Palace bookends on another shelf.

Created by Gentle Giant Studios, these bookends feature the pint-size likenesses of Boba Fett, a Gammorean guard and Princess Leia in her Boushh disguise. The Tauntaun taxidermy head is a nice touch too. Of course, the best part is the frozen block of carbonite, enshrouding Han Solo. I only wish that Jabba himself made an appearance.

Each set of limited-edition bookends measures about 14″ (w) x 9″ (h) x 6.5″ (d), and is made from polystone. You can order a set over at the Star Wars Shop for $225 (USD).

It’s taken over half a year since you could find ‘em, but these illuminated Lightsaber Bookends are available for pre-order again. You might have noticed – if you have keen eyes – that this lightsaber is none other than Darth Vader’s.

The other cool thing about these bookends is that they are light up. Needless to say that they require rechargeable batteries. What was the last time your bookends needed batteries?

Anyway, if these tickle your fancy, expect to pay about $50 at the Star Wars Shop. They won’t win any awards for good looks, but they are a neat gimmick to have around your books. (Look, I made a rhyme.)

These most excellent bookends are the perfect addition to any Star Wars geek’s bookshelf.

Inspired by the famous garbage compactor scene from Episode IV: A New Hope, these limited-edition hand-painted bookends flip that classic movie moment inside-out. You’ll notice that instead of keeping the walls from closing in on them, Han, Luke, Chewbacca and Leia are all working to keep the books upright. Clever. Although the way I remember it, Chewie was just hopelessly banging on the walls, and not really helping in any way. Of course, you can always flip the bookends around for a more accurate recreation of the original scene.

Unfortunately, you’re going to have to wait a while if you want these for your room. They’re not coming out until April 2010. In the mean time, you can pre-order them over at the Star Wars Shop for $189.99 (USD).

While you wait, sit back and enjoy this brief video interlude…
