Pioneer already has a bunch of DJ gear that is aimed at professional music-makers.

If you’re a fan of Transformers, you probably already known that Blaster is an Autobot who spends his days disguised as a boom box. This handmade version of the Audiobot Autobot looks like he’d fit in quite nicely on my desktop.

This Blaster Autobot actually has tiny speakers in place of knees, and can be plugged into the 3.5mm audio jack on any computer or media player. Blaster was crafted by Etsy artist SUPER SOCK (aka Polyester10), and was lovingly assembled from children’s building blocks, angle irons, epoxy, paint, and various other bits and bobs.

His creator says that you can rotate Blasters arms slightly, but that he is sort of delicate, so you don’t want to really do much more than admire him sitting on your desktop, and listen to some tunes blasting out of his kneecaps. You can’t really see it here, but there are also tiny little LEDs under the speakers which light up when powered on.

All told, Blaster measures in at a substantial 15.5″ tall, or as SUPER SOCK describes him – “as tall as a pet cat.” For some reason, I think my cat would run and hide from this thing. If you’re ready to intimidate your own cat with a wooden Transformer, head on over to Etsy now, and be prepared to pony up $275 (USD) of your cash.

A few years back, I wrote about an unusual concept backpack which had a sound system built into it. I’m not sure if that pack ever made it to market, but leave it to the ingenuity of one of the artists of Etsy to come up with a real one you can buy.

San Francisco artist/software engineer Joe Andolina (aka Megaplow) is actually calling this wearable audio system a “Speaker Vest,” but from everything I can tell, it’s really more like a backpack, just built into a vest. Whatever it’s called, you’ll definitely draw attention walking down the street with this booming audio system strapped to your body.

It’s actually constructed from a Dainese Gilet Cali Tessuto vest, with a Boss audio Bass900 subwoofer strapped to the back. I like the two little satellite speakers that sit over your shoulders while wearing this thing. Power is supplied by a 10-cell rechargeable battery belt which might make you look a little like a suicide bomber, so you might not want to bring this thing with you to the airport.

If you’re ready to rattle your bones and be the life of the party, you can get this wearable speaker vest over on Etsy now for $850 (USD).

This ridiculous looking little boom box snaps onto the bottom of your iPod, letting it belt (or is it chirp) out some fat (or is it skinny) beats.

Homade’s Boom Dock connects to your iPod’s dock connector and has a little speakers inside of it. I can’t imagine that it’ll put out anywhere near the volume you would expect from a boom box, but I guess that’s part of the point. And since it requires no batteries, you can count on especially tinny sound. You’d probably be better off sticking a pair of earbuds into a cardboard box and painting it to look like a boom box.

Still, if you’re just dying to have one of these, you can find them at Geek Stuff 4U for about $44 (USD), or if you’re fortunate enough to be in China, you can save a few bucks by ordering from Wanyi99, where the sell for only 168 Yuan (appx. $25 USD).

While you could use it to play an aggressive tune like Bang Your Head, or something more whimsical like Blow the Man Down, I think I’d rather play the Halo theme music to preserve the illusion.

The only thing that would make this thing cooler is if it could actually launch rockets. On second thought, it would be even better if it could launch multiple explosive projectiles to the beat of the music.

What will future societies think of us when they excavate bits of iPods and N64 controllers? (That we had damn fine taste, that’s what!) Though we can never know, you can get a glimpse of the future of current tech thanks to one artist creating fake fossils from for (from?) the future.

Artist Christopher Locke crafts these not-fossils from concrete and more to create that realistic look, but the best part has to be the names he assigns the projects. The n64 controller? Dominaludus sexagentaquad. Sounds pretty important for something I used until I thought my thumbs would fall off on GoldenEye 007.

While some newer, slicker technologies are featured, like the iPod, Locke didn’t forget the oldschool roots of portable gadgetry. It’s the boom box, folks, or as he puts it, bombus colaphus.

The fossils are all for sale, but be warned that art from the future does not come cheap.

[Christopher Locke via Hawty McBloggy and Wonderland]

This boom box has everything you’d expect in a portable stereo: an amplifier, speakers, even an iPod dock. But this one is made out of cardboard.

While most portable stereos aren’t particularly waterproof, this one doesn’t stand a chance in a rainstorm. The Mini Cardboard Boom Box comes folded flat and ready for assembly. It runs on two AA batteries, and connects to any MP3 player with a standard 3.5mm stereo jack. But it looks best with an iPod sitting in its “dock.”

The guys over on 7Gadgets dug this up on the Suck UK website. I wasn’t able to find a price for it, so I’m not sure if it’s even for sale yet.
