We recently showed you some steampunk-inspired dice which I thought were pretty cool. But those dice were all just little cubes. These ones look even cooler, thanks to their unusual D&D-style shapes.

This set of dice was designed by shapeways user gythawen and Masterworks, and comes in a set of numerous differently sided-dice perfect for a good old game of Dungeons & Dragons, or any other board or card game that uses dice. Personally, I’d use them as Monopoly pieces, instead of the shoe and the hat but that’s just me. The intricately-detailed dice are produced using 3D printing technology, and as seen in the image above can even be produced in bronze, stainless steel, or glossy silver.

Dice range in size from 16mm to 24mm, and a complete set will run you about $25 (USD) when produced from resin (which may be too light for rolling,) about $80 in bronze or stainless, and close to $200 in silver. Of course the antique bronze seems the most fitting with the steampunk theme, but they’re cool no matter what material you decide to make them in. In addition to the steampunk set, Masterworks also offers this cool Harry Potter-inspired set they call the “Deathly Hallows”, which is equally as awesome:

Both the dice sets and individual dice are available over at Masterworks’ Shapeways shop.

In tribute to <del>Vern Schillinger’s</del> Cave Johnson’s classic “Don’t make lemonade“ speech from Portal 2, jewelry artist Mark Wengryn created this cool metal pendant.

It’s already pretty awesome to get a gold medal. Really – it means that for at least one day, you were the best in the world at something, and there’s no arguing with that. But Olympic medals have become increasingly more beautiful, too, and the medals for the 2010 Vancouver winter games are no exception… and it doesn’t hurt that they’re made from old circuit boards!

The medals all feature work by Canadian artists Corrine Hunt and Omer Arbel, and are each laser-etched with a unique design so that no two of the games’ medals will be the same. But perhaps most interestingly, the medals are made from materials reclaimed from used electronics. All that gold, silver, and bronze used to be running something… and now it’ll all be part of some of the biggest and heaviest medals in Olympic history.

The medals are also not flat, but instead move and rise, a design said to spring from the undulating land of Vancouver.

Technabob reader Matthew Borgatti (aka “M@”) created this intricately detailed bronze belt buckle which bears the inimitable Art Deco logo from the classic underwater shooter. M@ started out by having a wax mold carved on TechShop’s Tormach CNC.

He then produced a silicone mold from the wax and had the bronze casting made by the guys over at JR Casting.

While I really love the way the raw bronze looked when it came back from the casting, M@ did a great job giving it that thoroughly weathered look that’s more apropos of the game’s decrepit atmosphere.

These bronze and aluminum NES controllers were both cast using max models and silicone molds, and then the bronze replicas were aged to give them a unique look. Now all that’s left is for someone to bury those in the back yard and leave ‘em for future generations to discover.

Creator Kenneth Botsford Jr. indicated that he “still at least own the aluminum ones,” which means someone either bought the bronze casts (I would!) or received a really fantastic gift. Either way, lucky them.

Now why is it called the Fragile Future 2? Presumably, because the Fragile Future 1 was just a little TOO breakable.

Created by Lonneke Gordijn of the Dutch outfit known as DesignDrift, the Fragile Future 2 lamp combines the modern, linear look of circuit board traces and LED illumination with the contrasting organic shapes of puffy dandelion heads.

Each one is custom-built and is made from modular pieces, so you can build complex wall fixtures using anywhere from 3 to 50 light modules.

All I can say is that you’d better not sneeze anywhere around this thing.

The Fragile Future 2 is available from Generate LE.

Combining retro Nixie tubes with a baroque antique bronze enclosure, it’s definitely different. For some reason, I’m betting your Grandma probably didn’t have one of these on her mantle.

Handcrafted by LCI Electronics, this clock is powered by six funky red Nixie tubes, and not only tells time, but offers a calendar and an alarm that plays four musical memories. And if red isn’t your thing, LCI also makes the same clock with clear Nixies as well.

You can find this unique clock over on eBay for $219.99.
