Attention parents who always buy the wrong thing: Nintendo will release a Holiday Wii bundle this October 23. I suggest that you don’t buy it. Even if the console and its controllers are in sleek black. Even it if it includes the New Super Mario Bros. game and a CD of the Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack. Because Nintendo is pulling a Sony here, removing backwards compatibility for Gamecube games.

This new, but worse Wii is also horizontal-only, while the older consoles can be positioned upright. That’s not a big drawback by any means, but it’s salt in the wounds of gamers who have been loyal to Nintendo. I’m still really disappointed that I can’t play PS2 games on my PS3 knowing that earlier the models had that capability. I wouldn’t want people who own both Wii and Gamecube games to feel that sting of disappointment either.

Fortunately you can still have a happy holiday and order the bundles that have the older version of the Wii – in both white or black –that supports Gamecube games. Those bundles – which come with a copy of Mario Kart Wii and the steering wheel accessory – are sold for $160 (USD), just $10 more than the stripped-down Holiday Bundle, but if you have several Gamecube games then I’m pretty sure this is still a no-brainer.

Back in my day, you were either Atari or Intellivision. The lines were clearly drawn. You chose your allegiance and you were loyal to that brand. Then at some point it was Nintendo versus Sega and so on. Nowadays, there’s no loyalty. We just love to play.

You have Sega games on Nintendo consoles, you can even play old Atari games on any console. Many of us have both a PS3 and an XBox 360. There’s no brand loyalty, just the love of games. However you can’t help thinking back to those days when something like this shows up. A Sega themed Wii? If you would have told me back then that this could happen, I would have laughed. But here we are.

This Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games bundle had to happen eventually. In case you’re wondering, this is the new version of the Wii. The Wii-Lite. (There’s no wi-fi and you can’t play Gamecube games).

They even make you do all of the work, providing a sticker sheet so that you can create your Sega themed Wii. Thanks Nintendo. I can already put stickers on things.

You get a blue Wii, a blue Wii Remote Plus, a blue Nunchuk, the game, and a sticker sheet. If you’re interested in this oddity, you can get it in Europe on November 18th for an unknown price.

So what if there are no new games in this Metal Gear Solid HD Collection bundle. Hardcore fans will want to buy it anyway. You’ll get three already-released games boosted to 720p resolution, running at 60fps. Plus, with the Limited Edition, packaging created by Yoji Shinkawa, the series’ lead artist and a 248-page art book titled The Art of Metal Gear Solid.
The collection includes Substance and Subsistence versions of Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 in HD, Peace Walker, the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Konami didn’t show off much of the book when they announced this bundle, but if you are a fan, you already know that you have to get this. It has to have something good within it’s 248 pages right? Although how many times can they show Snake sneaking around from different angles before you get bored?

This bundle will be available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 8. The limited edition will sell for $79.99 (USD), while the standard edition is available for $49.99.

Just kidding about Lucas wanting to make some changes as he does with every release of these movies. However the R2-D2 Xbox bundle has been delayed until 2012 because they want to make sure that the Star Wars Kinect game is as good as it can be when it ships.
They will tweak some things, polish it all up. So the bad news is that we won’t be getting this awesome bundle come this holiday season, but at least they are taking the time to make sure we have a quality game.

To refresh your memory, this Star Wars special edition Xbox 360 includes a 320GB R2-D2 themed console that features custom sounds and comes with a white Kinect sensor. You also get a C-3PO controller, (It doesn’t talk, thank god!) a wired headset and the Star Wars Kinect game. Aside from that there is also exclusive content and a copy of Kinect Adventures. The system sells for $449 (USD), and despite the delay, Amazon is still listing a December 31, 2011 release date.

Nintendo announced this morning that not only are they releasing the elusive black Wii in the United States on May 9th, but that they will also start bundling all sorts of bonus goodies with every Wii they sell.

While pricing will remain at $199.99 (USD) for the Wii, each console will now include Wii Sports Resort and a Wii MotionPlus accessory in every box. That’s in addition to the already included Wii-mote, Nunchuk and Wii Sports in every package. If I’m doing my math right, that’s about a $40 bucks worth of extra schwag with every system. Not too shabby, if you ask me.

The bundle for both the original white Wii will also start showing up in stores on May 9th. Looks like now is a great time to get your hands on a Wii (pun intended) if you don’t have one already, are looking to pick up a gift, or if you just want all of the equipment in your rack to be black.

Square Enix has just announced two new Xbox 360 bundles to commemorate the upcoming release of Final Fantasy XIII everywhere else but Japan, where people are already going bonkers for this game.

Both bundles are available for pre-order and will be released on March 9th. The Special Edition comes with a limited edition faceplate created by designer Tetsuya Nomura. It also has a 250 GB hard drive engraved with the name of the game, two controllers, and special downloadable content.

The Elite Bundle comes with a standard 120 GB hard drive and one wireless controller. Both naturally include a copy of Final Fantasy XIII and an Xbox 360. The U.S. edition of the 250GB bundle is priced at $399 (USD), but the 120GB version sounds like it’ll only be available in Europe (price unknown).

It’s a new take on the holiday bundle: according to Best Buy’s Black Friday ad, Nintendo DSi units are going to be available already loaded with DSiWare items to save new owners the trouble of downloading their favorites (and paying for them!) separately.

Nintendo’s traditional holiday handheld bundles have included retail games in the past (and sometimes unique systems!), but this new approach of download game packs is possible with the DSi.

The two bundles are decidedly different. The first includes Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters, Brain Age Express: Sudoku, Brain Age Express: Math, Clubhouse Games Express: Card Classics, Photo Clock and a white Nintendo DSi, while the second features a different theme: Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!, WarioWare Snapped!, Dr. Mario Express, Mario Calculator, and Mario Clock, all on a metallic blue DSi.

The best part? The bundles will be available for $169 (USD) – the price of a regular DSi all by itself. Considering those software packs cost almost as much as a retail title, that’s a pretty sweet deal.

I’m not sure who decided that water guns and rubber duckies were just the thing to help sell the console that has never spent more than a few days at most sitting on the shelf, but that seems to be the thrust behind GameStop’s wacky new Wii bundles.

The GameStop bundle: when it’s important to buy a water gun and a gaming console at the same time!

Some of the retailer’s bundles make a little more sense, and by some, I mean one: the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games bundle includes a console and the aforementioned game. It’s a bundle; it’s made up of things that go together.

The Take a Bath with a Buddy bundle? Includes a Wii and a rubber duck. Let’s just hope no one thinks that the buddy who goes into the bath is the Wii. Somebody’s gonna get sued.

Capcom really thinks Resident Evil fans are willing to spend a lot of money. First, they announced the $90 Collector’s Edition of Resident Evil 5, a megabox packed with all sorts of essentials, like a necklace, a patch, and a figurine. Oh, and the game, of course. But if that’s not enough Resident Evil goodness for you, take heart: word on the street is that there’s an even bigger bundle coming: a bundle with a limited edition red Xbox 360 console.

It will probably look a lot like this, except that there will be a console somewhere, too. Or maybe the set will feature a darker, bloodier sort of red. Either way, the infamous Red Ring of Death will look really nice on your new Xbox 360!

Better than this bundle? Some would say so, while others would prefer that messenger bag. Odds are you already have an Xbox if you’re scoping out Resident Evil 5, after all. Of course, it’s probably not red.

If it pans out, the rumored console bundle will include a copy of Resident Evil 5, a red Xbox 360 console, a single matching controller, an exclusive Resident Evil 5 theme for the New Xbox Experience, and a coupon inviting purchasers to download Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix to that sweet new ‘Box for free. Resident Evil 5 is set for release in March, and you’ll even be able to buy just the game if you’re not in the market for a bunch of extra stuff.

To reinforce that the PS2 isn’t going anywhere, Sony has just announced this great new bundle.

At its core, the PS2 SingStar Bundle is a special white PS2 with a white Dual-Shock controller. In addition, you’ll get a copy of the karaoke game SingStar Pop and a pair of USB microphones so you and a friend can sing duets.

The grand total for all this casual gaming goodness? Just $149.99 USD. So if you’ve never bothered to pick up a PlayStation 2, there’s no better time.
