I’ve been hit with the boredom bug. Every once in a while, I look at the stuff I have and realize that I must be a pretty boring person with all the boring stuff I have lying around. The latest one was my iPad. It’s encased in a Smart Cover, which I put inside a generic sleeve. Boring, I know. And whenever that time rolls around, it’s time to do something new or something different, and in the case of the iPad, we all know what that means: new sleeves! And the Wonder Threads by Diana Rodgers are just my thing.

These attractive sleeves for your tablet and laptop come in two designs: a composition notebook and an interoffice envelope. They’re pretty tame to bust out my device from their current state of boringness, but I’m just the type of person who finds it amusing to dress them up in something they aren’t (or are they? I mean, it could very well be a notebook, and you can use applications in the device to deliver messages to your colleagues, replacing the need for interoffice envelopes. Just saying.)

The outside of these sleeves are comprised of water repellent microfiber, while the insides are lined with soft fleece. Diana is currently ramping up for a large production run of Wonder Threads, which are currently up for funding on Kickstarter. A minimum pledge of $35(USD) will let you get your hands on one of these fun sleeves.

If you have gotten tired of your slick, modern iPhone, and you yearn for something a bit more clunky, at least style-wise, then you should consider using one of Schreer Delights’ cases to make your own iPhone look like an early Macintosh, a first generation iMac, or the first generation iPod.

The cases from Schreer Delights certainly look authentic. They’ve got a couple of other models, including the G4 Graphite, and some non-Apple themed cases as well. The retro iMac iPhone case in Bondi Blue looks really good in my opinion. The graphics are printed deep in the plastic of the case, so even if the case is slightly damaged, the images won’t fade.

The cases are available for the iPhone 4 and 4S for $45(USD) each, but they might not be available for long, because Apple is sure to flex their legal muscles to protect their intellectual property rights. So if you want one, you’d better move quick.

As many of us will probably admit, I have multiple cases for my iPad and iPhone, because I like so many of the designs out there. While I don’t go for stuff that’s too off the wall, like those bunny ear cases that I’ve seen, these geometric cases for iPhones and covers for iPads by Vasare Nar are just distinctive enough for me.

Vasare Nar’s cases are inspired by geometry and Aztec tribal art. The abstract geometric shapes are definitely distinctive, especially in the bold colors he offers.

Over at her Society6 site, you can choose from a variety of different covers, skins, and decals for PC laptops, MacBooks, iPads, iPhones, and other gear. Prices start at $15(USD) and go up to $30.

This new case from Hong Kong’s Goods of Desire is called the Literati and it’s made to work with the Blackberry Playbook. On top of having a sweet name, G.O.D. makes some interesting accessories. The case is a play on Apple’s Smart Cover, though it works a little differently.

The idea for this design comes from ancient manuscripts from China, where before paper was invented, they used to carve their books into strips of bamboo held together by string. G.O.D. notes that in Chinese culture, people still hold printed books this way.

The Literati Roll Case uses the same approach, breaking the tablet’s cover down into individual strips which can be rolled up. The case can be used as a stand as well. While the prototypes were made out of bamboo, the production models will be made out of plastic, available in black or white. Since the case was designed specifically on behalf of Blackberry, it’s unlikely that the Literati will be available for the iPad or other popular tablets any time soon.

If you’re looking for a fun way to dress up your iPad while protecting it, look no further than this slipper case designed to look like a giant 3.5-inch floppy disk.

If it wasn’t painfully obvious from the giant, obnoxious watermarks, this floppy-disk iPad case was made by none other than RabbitRampage – who has in the past brought us such goodies as the game console iPhone cases and some tiny felt game controllers.

While this felt case is modeled after the old 3.5 inch floppy disk, it actually measures in at 8.5 inches by 10.25 inches in order to accommodate your tablet. That makes it even bigger than one of those gigantic, antiquated 8 inch floppies, but rectangular instead of square. That gets me thinking – how would the disc turn inside of a rectangular enclosure anyhow?

If you’re ready to turn your iPad into a giant floppy disk, head on over to Etsy and pony up your $35(USD) now.

What to do with your earphones when you’re not using them seems to be a problem that’s still in search of a good solution. Sure there are cases and gadgets which let you wrap them around your mobile gadget, but they still take up space, and make it difficult to cram your phone or media player into your pocket, and they still often end up a tangled mess when you undo them. The Bumper Sound concept seems to have solved the problem for good – assuming it ever gets made.

Korean designer Sang Hwa Lee came up with this ingenious concept which turns your headphone cable into a bumper for your gadget when not in use. By using a flat tangle-proof rubber ribbon cable for the headphone cord, they simply wrap around the perimeter of your device when not in use. The three layers of rubber even provide added protection when the cord is stowed. It’s not 100% clear from these images, but it looks like the earbuds themselves would be fairly low profile, and snap into a groove placed on the headphone line itself along the edge of the device.

I’m still not completely sure of how the cable would stay put, but that could probably be achieved by pairing the headphones with a matching case with clips built in to hold it. While it’s definitely not ready for production, the concept seems like it’s on the right track to finally solving this annoying and challenging problem. Kickstarter, anyone?

While it’s true that there are a lot of different iPhone cases out there to choose from, the selection can still get pretty boring. Not to mention the fact that there’s always the risk of running into someone who’s also using the same case. Really, what can be more annoying than that? (*Insert sarcastic expression here that you’ve seen some spoiled brats make*)

Kidding aside, though, I’d very much prefer an iPhone case that I can customize, decorate, and design myself – but with minimal effort. Because frankly, I don’t have the luxury of time to whip out some chain saws or glue guns to make up my own case.

This is why I think the Cubit case is a great idea.

X-Doria’s Cubit Case is basically a white frame that you’re supposed to insert the included green, orange, and blue cubes into. Form patterns, make out your initials, or just alternate empty frames with filled frames to create a one-of-a-kind and personalized iPhone case the easy way.

It’s also available in black, with red, white and black cubes. The only thing better would be a broader selection of colors – or maybe smaller blocks so you could create pixel art on the back of your phone. In case you’re interested, the Cubit Case is available from Amazon for $24.99(USD).

Evouni’s Leather Arc Cover is quite simple and elegant in its design, made from Italian calfskin leather that will get even more supple with use. While it’s made for iPhones, it looks like it might accommodate phones from other manufacturers, since it’s not really designed to be a snug fitting case.

You can get it on Amazon for $69.99(USD) in either black or claret (though I’m unsure what color that is in the picture below.) They also make a version for the iPad 2 for $120.

I’m a fan of well-designed cases for iPhones, and this one seems to have been well-thought out. The most distinguishing aspect of this case is that it comes with a sort of lock which latches the case shut, protecting it even further. The case comes with a back panel which snaps into place, which you can choose to set aside or use to completely protect your iPhone.

The Leverage case by Graft works with the iPhones 4 and 4S. Its hard polycarbonate shell has a soft-touch matter finish, and is available in black or white. The zinc-alloy latch is available in either matte or chrome finish, and works sort of like the deployment buckle on a watch band. The design isn’t supposed to interfere with the functions of your phone, so hopefully it won’t affect the antenna or signal.

The case is available from Graft for $59.95 (USD), but the white version has already sold out for now.

While those of you up North are probably freezing or covered in snow, where I live the weather is actually starting to warm up. Of course, there’s still the occasional thunderstorm, but it’s mostly a whole lot of warm and sunny weather. But sometimes, it’s just too warm – almost warm enough to melt the case off of my iPhone.

Just kidding. I don’t think I’d still be alive to tell the woeful tale of my smartphone’s case melting off because I’d think I would’ve been fried by the sun first.

What you’re actually seeing are the Melt iPhone Cases from SwitchEasy, that makes it look like your phone’s case is slowly melting off in all directions. (But it could also look like paint that hasn’t really dried yet – you decide.)

If you want to get your device a-melting too, then you can check out SwitchEasy’s site for ordering information. Each case retails for $34.99 (USD), and they’re available in a variety of drippy colors.

There are already a ton of sleeves and covers for the iPad. There are also already ones that claim that they’re “smart,” since they can automatically wake your tablet up or make it go to sleep by just lifting or replacing the cover. But something that promises to push past just being a smart cover is Smarty.

Smarty trumps other stands in the sense that when it says it’s convertible, it really is, thanks to ingenious folding techniques and magnets embedded into it. With a few folds here and there, you can convert the soft, protective sleeve into an angled stand for reading e-Books or watching videos.

Smarty was designed by Kim Jung-Sik, Cho Jae-Hong, Lim Sung-Won, Koo Bon-Young, Lee Bum-Joon and Shin Jung-Won, and can be purchased from Connect design for $49 (USD).

When you tend to spend a lot of time reading with your Kindle out on the road or on vacation, it’s nice that it can run for so long. Still, it would be nice if you never had to plug it in at all. SolarFocus has just released information about their SolarKindle cover, which allows you to use the sun to power your Kindle for a whole lot longer, while at the same time protecting your Kindle.

Its makers state that with the cover in place and a reasonable amount of sunlight, you’ll be able to use your Kindle for three months straight before needing a regular recharge. The SolarKindle cover also comes with an LED lamp, to allow you late night reading. The lamp will be juiced up for 50 hours of continuous use.

The cover can also be recharged via USB, so it doubles as conventional battery in case there isn’t much sun around. Thanks to the Kindle’s minimal power requirements, an hour under the sun translates to 3 days of reading. The SolarKindle cover will retail for $79.99 when it’s launched.

Have you ever wanted to make your iPhone look like an old Mac? Well this retro case for your iPhone makes it look like a classic Macintosh computer. It’s actually a case, with a vinyl skin for the front, so it actually would offer some protection for your iPhone. It also looks thin enough to make it work well.

The Legacy case was designed by Maxime de Keiser of Les Forges MDK. The design is supposed to be a tribute to the original Mac 128K computer – minus the brick-shaped mouse, black and white screen and 3.5″ floppy drive.

While I like what they’ve done, I wonder if they’ll be able to produce it. If they do, it will probably be quite popular. Would you make your iPhone look like this?

G-Form, this is an intervention. You don’t need to do this anymore. First the bowling ball, then the parachute, and now you launch yourself to the edge of space? We need to talk. You don’t need to keep proving your worth. We like you for what you are.

That’s an iPad – no doubt peeing itself while passed out and dying – wrapped in G-Form’s Extreme Edge case, kidnapped and taken for a balloon ride up to a height of more than 100,000ft. Watch the video below to watch the gimmick unfold:

Of course, there’s really no reason they needed to do drop it from such a great height, since the iPad hits terminal velocity at a much lower altitude, and the impact would have been the same.

Everyone order an Extreme Edge before G-Form launches the poor iPad to the Sun. Wait no hold your purchase. I’d actually like to see that.

This mini PC is called The Aerodyne, and it’s supposed to evoke the look of classic streamline trains and skyscrapers like The Chrysler Building. For what it’s worth, the Aerodyne definitely looks more attractive than the typical plastic or metal computer cases we see these days.

The Art Deco influenced Aerodyne was created by Jeffrey Stephenson. The system is built around a Mini-ITX form factor PC, so its footprint is pretty small. The mini PC doesn’t have a fan to keep things compact, and is made out of mahogany and aluminum. Inside, it has an Intel Core i3 processor, an integrated Intel HD3000 graphics processor, a 256GB Crucial M4 SSD hard drive, and 8GB Crucial DDR 3 RAM. While those aren’t top-of-the-line specs, they’re still pretty solid for a compact machine like this.

Like what you see? Jeffrey is considering making a small run of 10 units of the Aerodyne, but he hasn’t announced pricing. If you’re interested, you can contact jeffrey[at]slipperyskip.com. In the mean time, check out the full Aerodyne build log over at bit-tech.

Unusual, but not impractical. It looks like it has an ugly graphic of a dumb phone, but it actually has a dumb phone inside, a dual-SIM cellphone to be exact. In other words, if you put an iPPeel on your iPhone 4/4S, you get two phones and three different numbers.

HK Rofen sells the iPPeel for about $70 (USD) each. More than its butt ugly look or the built-in phone’s barebones functionality, I think the most important thing you have to consider before ordering it is its overall quality, especially since the product page doesn’t mention any warranty. Buyer beware.

It just looks slightly different, with the wheel located more to the middle of the case because of the difference in the placement of the rear camera between the two phones. Note that the sample shots below are taken with an iPhone. Tsk, tsk. Lazy Holga.

There are thousands of different iPhone cases out there, and there is definitely something for everyone. There are even already cases which make your iPhone look sort of like a camera. However, the Gizmon iCA iPhone case completely transforms your modern smartphone into an old fashioned camera. But will you want to make your iPhone this bulky? If you love cameras, then I suppose this is the case for you.

The Gizmon iCA makes your iPhone 4 or 4S look a lot like an old Leica IIIf. The case is made out of 32 different polycarbonate components, and even contains a lens mount that will allow you to use optional lenses for your iPhone camera. It’s even got a working shutter button and an optical viewfinder. So the case is not just for show (though the big fake lens in the middle is.) There’s even a tripod mount on the bottom of the case. They eventually plan on offering an external flash, a remote shutter and other accessories for the iCA as well.

The Gizmon iCA costs $65 (USD) at Four Corner Store, and it’s available in white, black and brown. The strap costs another $30 and the lenses – a macro or a fisheye, sell for an extra $45. That seems like quite a lot to spend on a case. The SuperPopCam app that is supposed to work well with the case sells for $0.99, though it’s compatible with any iPhone photo app.
