This cat-shaped alarm clock, and not only tells the time, but releases an unknown fragrance as it does its business. One can only hope it doesn’t smell like my cat’s litter box. In addition to stinkin’ up the place, the cat is a speaks the time in 14 “diverse languages” – not one of them my tabby understands. There’s also a digital thermometer mode which can display the current temperature in either Centigrade or Celsius. Last time I checked, those were both the same thing. Eh, what do you expect from a stinkin tetradeca-lingual talkin’ cat?

What I really love about this thing is that the guys who made it felt the need to patent it. So if you plan on making your own 1″ lcd fragrance releasing talking cat alarm clock with temperature display, you’d better watch your ass. The holders of patent number 200930164072.X will rain down on you with the wrath of God (and an army of fragranced talking cats).

In my house, we call that the “snooze bar”. But before we totally give up on this seemingly rip-off of a product, let it be known that the petzzz apparently have numerous fans, and their testimonials on the Perfect Petzzz website give the toys a whole new dimension.

Some commenters said that Perfect Petzzz really look like the real thing. One parent wrote that her child got over the death of their real dog with the help of a petzzz, while another said that their child grew to love real pets because of the narcoleptic toy. But not all of the reviews were good. A lot of people were pissed that the thing couldn’t be turned off; it just lay there, curled up, adorably wasting battery. Some were disappointed because the petzzz “just sits there”.

As a busy pet owner, the prospect of owning a “pet” that doesn’t poop or pee, or bark at every random freaking thing that it decides is worth barking at is mildly enticing. But I think I’ll stick with my stupid, noisy, constantly excreting, living dog. Although it would be nice if I could put him to sleep simply by feeding him a battery.

Now I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve never seen a blue, silver, pink or aqua colored cat in my lifetime. I guess I’ll just chock it up to artistic license. Or cats dipped in paint.

While I think Neko is pretty cute in these pictures, I’m not sure how darling he’d look with a bunch of wires jabbed into his spine and mouth. I think it might look a bit like cat torture – or something out of a Trent Reznor video – but that’s just me.  Maybe Neko would be better off just sitting on your desk without any devices connected.

I suppose if you’re a really big cat fanatic, you might want one of these oddball alarm clocks by the side of your bed, but for me, I’ve got enough feline troubles. You can find the Magic Cat alarm clock over on eBay for $18 bucks.

Each time kitty steps into the automatic litter box, a new game is activated and a random music track starts to play. Colored indicators scroll down the flip-out LCD screen much like they do in a game of Guitar Hero or Rock Band. As each paw scratches across the litter, it triggers the notes, and every time your cat leaves a “present” in the litter box, the game enters a bonus multiplier mode for extra points.

The system includes such cat-friendly tunes as Cat Scratch Fever, Stray Cat Strut, and of course, Cool for Cats.

The makers of the CatBox, Pawsitivity Games, say they’ve tested the device with hundreds of cats. With time, most of them do start to scratch to the rhythm of the music. An unfortunate side effect, however, is that a handful of cats have started “doing their business” any time they hear music playing — so beware when you crank up your stereo — you might get an unexpected surprise. Hopefully, they’ll work out this minor kink before the CatBox hits the market.

Pawsitivity hasn’t announced a release date or price for the system yet, but my cat can’t wait to get his paws on one.

Brighton Net’s CatSpeaker set is a full 2.1 channel amplified speaker setup, complete with cat-shaped subwoofer and satellites. The speakers use NXT flat panel drivers, which I’ve been pretty impressed by in other systems, so I actually think it’ll have decent sound.

My favorite part of the system has to be the cat-paw shaped control pod. The individual paw pads each control the system’s equalization effects.

The system will retail for ¥19,800 (about $166 USD) when it’s released later this year. I don’t know if the CatSpeaker system will be available outside of Japan, but I’ll let you know if I hear anything.

The whole idea strikes me as pretty odd though. I think if my cat heard the disembodied, digitized meows, then saw the flash go off, he’d take off like a shot. I actually think opening the metal can that it comes packed in is more likely to attract cats, since they’ll think you’re fixing their bowl of 9-Lives. Of course when kitty realizes that there are no tasty morsels, just a stupid meowing camera, Mr. Whiskers will probably scratch your eyeballs out, thus making it impossible for you to take that picture you bought the thing for in the first place.

So if you’re still interested after all that, you can find these over on Korea’s 10×10 shop. With a little digging, you can also find a handful of ‘em over on eBay.

While I’ve tried to use my real cat to keep my cables in order, all he does is try to chew on them. On the other hand, the pint-sized Cable Cat hangs on for dear life doing his duty to prevent your cord from snagging.

It’s available from Belgium’s Kado-Fix design store for €5,50 (which works out to a little more than 7 bucks.)

Insert your dull pencil into the cat’s “third eye,” and it lets out a meow and sharpens your pencil. There’s nothing more I can really say about this, exect that all you sickos who want one can pick one up from I Want One of Those for about $13.

The creepy FurReal Breathing Cat is an artificial pet that lays on its own little bed and looks like its breathing. The “realistic breathing action” is supposed to last for several weeks on a single set of batteries, but I’m pretty sure if you’re too lazy to take care of a real cat, you won’t bother changing the batteries on this one either.

For the low, low price of $4000, you can pick up a hypoallergenic cat from San Diego biotech firm, Allerca. These cats are bred exclusively from litters that don’t carry the Fel D1 glycoprotein, the cause of most common cat allergies. There’s about a one-year waiting list for these critters, so maybe you can just save the $4000 and buy yourself a crapload of Claritin.
