You can’t really appreciate how impressive the Apple iPhone user interface is until you see it in action. Thankfully, CBS News has posted a close up video of an actual iPhone in action at this week’s Macworld conference:

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The whole motion sensor thing when you rotate the device just seems so right. I’m also really jazzed about the navigation of lists such as those in iTunes. Simply drag your finger over a play list to scroll, and if you drag fast, the list speeds up. I think it will totally blow away the scroll wheel we’ve all come to know and love. The idea that you just touch what you need on the screen is just more intuitive all around.

I only have a couple of concerns now that I can see how the iPhone really works. I’m a bit of a “tactile” dialer when it comes to my cell phone; I’m used to where the buttons are, and can dial a number on my current phone without looking, so I’m not sure how I’m going to deal with the loss of that ability. I also wonder how well the screen will hold up to fingerprints and scratches. Most touch screen devices use a specially coated stylus tip to reduce the likelihood of damage, so I’m really hoping Apple has come up with a good solution for this, or else these fancy schmancy gadgets are gonna start looking really bad after a few weeks in the real world. Remember how nice that Sony PSP looked before you got your fingerprints all over it?

Regardless, I’ll be one of the first in line to pick up one of these bad boys when they hit the street in June.
