Q-Pot Chocolate Bar Smartphone for Candy-Coated Calling

The Japanese do come up with some strange technology. The Chocolate Q-Pot Phone, which was designed by Tadaaki Wakamatsu and NTT DoCoMo, is going to be released in Japan as a special Valentine’s Day smartphone. Does that mean you’ll only use it on that particular day? Nope, the Q-Pot Phone is designed help you get your chocolate fix whenever you answer your phone.

It’s official name is the SH-04D and it’s part of the DoCoMo ‘With’ series of collaborative phone designs. It runs a custom Android 2.3 interface, pre-loaded with a chocolate-themed game and wallpapers. It even comes with a “Chocobed” recharging station, that’s been designed to look like a chocolate box. How cute.

The actual phone is produced by Sharp and only 30,000 units will be made. This phone will sell for ¥40,000 (~$521 USD). Now that’s expensive chocolate!

Space Invaders chocolate is an awesome 8-bit treat that is actually made up of 23 pixels of chocolate. Looks tasty doesn’t it? We have so won this war against the aliens. Eat up for King and country. Binge my fellow geeks, binge!

These chocolate Invaders are made at Fruition’s chocolate workshop in Shokan, NY. For $20(USD) you get the invader chocolate bar weighing 50g, a special edition laser engraved wood box, an invader mini-poster, invader sticker and an invader postcard.

If you want to give your fellow geek or geekette a great holiday gift this year, just head over to the Chocolateinvader website and order yours now. I wouldn’t mind finding one in my stocking. They are made fresh from whole beans to finished Invader, which takes about four days.

The Cake of Thrones

Robert Baratheon would have fought harder for his kingship if he had this chocolate cake throne instead of the depressing iron one. This Game of Thrones cake was made by Kensei Yonzon for an unnamed client. It was probably Littlefinger.

Yonzon says, “the seat, armrests, and backrest are all cake. the swords are all chocolate fondant” while “the fondant is made from marshmallows and milk chocolate. Cake is chocolate with dark chocolate frosting.” I hope the client warned his guests that dessert was coming.

3D Printer Creates Chocolate in Any Shape

I really like chocolate,and so do my kids. They eat more of it than I do, but I like to sneak me a bit every now and then, as the crumbs in my keyboard can attest. I talked about the Solar Sinter 3D printer a while back that made things out of desert sand. This 3D printer is much more interesting because rather than sand, it uses yummy chocolate to print.

The 3D chocolate printer was funded with a grant and designed by Dr. Liang Hao at the University of Exeter in partnership with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). He says that he chose chocolate because it’s cheap, easily malleable, and yields no waste. The cool part about an experiment on this thing is that you can eat whatever is left over or melt it down. Try that with sand.

The printer is envisioned to be used to allow people to place an order online and upload a digital design to be made into chocolate. Hao does say that the printer could easily be adapted to use other materials as well for printing jewelry and more.

Chocolate Dual-Shock Controller Comes with Grand Theft Chocolate Game Disc

I love when an item I discover combines two of my favorite things, and this PS2/PS3 controller made out of chocolate satisfies those requirements perfectly. Michelle’s This and That is making these chocolate bars in the shape of a Dual-Shock controller, in either milk or dark chocolate.

The buttons can be made in colors or peanut butter too. Nothing like a D-Pad made out of peanut butter, right? Usually if I want that I have to eat some Reese’s then play some Killzone 3 in order to get that same effect.

To sweeten Michelle’s already sweet deal, the set includes a “game disc” for Grand Theft Chocolate. Personally, I’d like God of Chocolate III or LittleBigChocolate 2 instead, but GTC will have to satisfy my stomach for now.

You can get your hands these delectable PS2/PS3 controller chocolates over at Michelle’s Etsy shop. A single controller will set you back just 7 bucks, or you can grab the controller/disc combo for $14. If you want any customization or want more than one, be sure to drop Michelle a convo. Personally, I’d like a full-size PS3 made from chocolate, then dipped in a crunchy candy shell.

Chocolate Camera Looks Tasty, But Not Edible

Maybe it’s because I have a horrible sweet-tooth, but for some reason, I’ve got candy on the brain today. Heck, even some gadgets are starting to look like candy to me. As a matter of fact, I thought I was looking at a digital camera, but all I see is a chocolate bar.

The Fuuvi chocolate bar camera is small enough to fit in your pocket – just don’t put it in your mouth unless you want a rude awakening. Plastic doesn’t taste very good. And chocolate apparently isn’t very good for taking photos – these little cameras take a very lo-fi 1.3 megapixel stills and only VGA (640×480) or QVGA (320×240) videos. Whaddya want from a bar of chocolate? It’s not a Nikon, right?

In addition to milk chocolate, it’s available in white chocolate and strawberry chocolate variants. Mmmm. Strawberry chocolate sounds pretty good, although fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate would be better. A camera dipped in chocolate, not so much. You can get these tasty (looking) chocolate cameras over at the Four Corner Store for $40 (USD).

Chocolate Factory Controlled by iPhone: Willy Wonka Would Approve

I like my iPhone and if I could do my job from anywhere using the iPhone, I would. This must be what drove some geeks at a chocolate maker in San Francisco to have an app developed that allows them to control all essential factory and lab functions using the iPhone.

The company is called TCHO and it makes the dark and milk chocolate that Starbucks sells (for more than it’s worth) as well as making its own branded products. The CEO and creative director of the company is Louis Rossetto, the same geek that co-founded Wired Magazine.

The app means that the company chocolate-maker Zohara Mapes can perform some of the tasks she needs to do from home on the weekends rather than having to come in. Too bad the app can’t remotely whip up some s’mores, now that would be impressive.

Jabba the Hutt would easily pay twice what he did for Han Solo if he was made of peanut butter and bacon and was encased in “CandyBaronite”.

Booturtle made this delicious meat & sweet bar for her husband. After making a batch of chocolate covered bacon strips, she decided to use the Han Solo mold she made for an earlier project to make something extra special.

IPad Chocolates: There’S an App for Your App-Etite

Combining two of life’s little pleasures, these handmade chocolates look just like the app icons on my new iPad.

Made in Paris, France, iChocolates come packaged in a box that looks sort of like an iPad (or giant iPhone), and you get 20 organic chocolate “apps” in each box.

They sell for $46 (USD) a box, but last I checked, they were sold out. iChocolates also offers a special Mothers’ Day edition, which features some Mom-appropriate app icons.

These Chocolate Bars Are Shockingly Unpleasant

I don’t know what it is with cheap-o novelty makers and their insistence on making mock versions of everyday objects that intentionally jolt you with electricity. I suppose we can blame those old Adams joy buzzer tricks for inspiring such malevolent goods. So here we have the latest in a long line of nasty surprises – shock chocolate (say that ten times fast.)

And these aren’t just any shocking candy bars, nope, they induce “HAPPYNESS BECAUSE OF SHOCK.” Did they recently see that horrible Will Smith movie, or did they come up with that spelling all on their own? Either way, I can assure you that these battery-charged chocolate bars contain Golden Ticket straight to cardiac arrest.

Despite the fact that the product listing says “harmless shocking chocolate,” it goes on to say…

**NOT suitable for people suffering from epilepsy, heart disease, or similar illnesses!

Bandai Meiji Never-Ending Chocolate Bar is Infinitely Inedible

Here’s the latest ridiculous keychain gadget to come to us from the same guys who brought us infinite bubble wrap and the thirst-unquenching beer can simulator. I give you… never-ending chocolate.

Created in celebration of the 84th anniversary of Meiji chocolates, Bandai’s Meiji chocolate bar clips onto your keychain or cell phone and lets you simulate the sensation and sounds (???) you get when you break off pieces of a chocolate bar as many times as you want. Unfortunately, they missed out on the best part – eating the actual chocolate.

The infinite chocolate bar should be available at the end of this month in Japan for ¥630 (appx. $7 USD), and shortly thereafter once the Japanese gadget importers start bringing them to the rest of the world. In the mean time, you’ll just have to settle for eating lots of actual chocolate bars, which is a lot more yummy anyhow.

Xcm Xbox 360 Controller Shell: the Real Hot Coffee Mod

The latest controller modding kit from XCM is perfect for java junkies.

The case replaces the outside of your Xbox 360 controller with a rich, delicious coffee-colored shell.

Like other XCM case replacements for the Xbox 360, the controller includes a matching D-pad, LED backlit ABXY buttons and color-coordinated shoulder and trigger buttons. Now XCM likes to say this is a coffee lover’s controller mod, but I actually think it’s exactly what it would look like if you dipped your controller in a creamy milk chocolate shell. Either way, it looks delicious to me.

Chocolate Sweet Magnet: Robot Snack or Choking Hazard?

Hey man, want some fresh news? Look at our other posts then, ’cause this one’s quite old. Still awesome though: Flickr user xsomnis made these cupcakes a couple of years ago, and she was kind enough to post instructions on how to make them as well. Without further ado, behold! The smartest cupcakes on Earth!

Get it? ‘Cause they have – so yeah, these are xsomnis’ super special red velvet raspberry [cup]cakes with French vanilla cream cheese frosting and chocolate brains. But screw the French frosting something something, I’m sure you just want to know how she made those brains. I’ll give you a clue: baby dwarfs. No wait: tarsiers. No no no: bite-sized brain candy molds.

Just pour in some chocolate, pop the mold in a freezer and 8 hours or so later you have a tasty treat for Lord Zuthulu. It would’ve been cooler if xsomnis used brain-colored gelatin though, if there is such a thing.

Super Mario Makes for Some Tasty Treats

These handmade Super Mario Bros. candies from pastry artist Ana Fuji look too good to eat. Each delightful bon-bon features the likeness of a popular character from the Mushroom Kingdom, popping its head out of the top of an orb of chocolate and fondant.

Who do you think looks more yummy, Mario, Luigi or that 1-up mushroom? Say, did you notice that Bob-omb looks sorta like the chocolate ball he’s standing on top of. I suppose Ana could have just made a giant chocolate bomb instead. And that question mark block is a bit more like a squishy question mark ball, but I don’t mind. Maybe they had those in Super Mario Bros. 9. I never got to play that one.

Commodore 64 Cake Looks Retrolicious

In my everyday, I have a hard time passing up retro computers, video games or cake. So when I saw this Commodore 64 cake, I had to at least give it a mention.

Yeah, yeah. I don’t remember playing PONG on my C64 either, and it’s not as sleek or modern as that MacBook Pro cake, but this retro computer cake actually looks much tastier, IMHO. According to Flickr contributor Andy’s Retro Computers, it most definitely was yummy. Unfortunately you can’t have any – unless you happen to live in the UK, your name is Andy and your wife makes you one like it for your birthday too.

Chocolate Mouse: Neither Edible Nor a Rodent

The Chocolate Mouse belongs to a rare class of objects, with seemingly sensible names that turn out to be doubly stupid. Like the English sparrow, which is neither a sparrow nor English, but merely an Average Bird. Or jellyfish, which any halfwit can tell are not made of jelly and are no fish; they’re obviously an advance alien party tasked to eradicate humans, one sunburned teenager at a time.

Meh. I don’t care how much people love chocolate, this wireless mouse doesn’t look like it’s comfortable to use. But as the old saying goes, to each his own Chocolate Mouse. You can buy one at Lazybone for $33 (USD). Batteries not included.

Sony Style Ad: Chocolate Covered Electronics

With all the insanity of the recent holidays, I somehow missed this tasty advertisement that Sony Style was running for the recent shopping season.

Created by the CGI mavens over at Tronic Studio, the ad envisions larger-than-life versions of Sony gear, poured from chocolate. The animation seamlessly melds the gigantic candy electronics with the cityscape of Manhattan.

Tronic shot live action HD video from around NYC for the backgrounds, then composited in 3D modeled candy versions of headphones, a DSLR camera, a Handycam, and a solid chocolate laptop. And if milk chocolate isn’t your thing, there’s always a giant PSP made from candy cane-striped peppermint white chocolate. The key to pulling off the pouring chocolate illusion was RealFlow, a realistic fluid dynamics plug-in for 3ds Max.

Cakes Just Like Your Motherboard Used to Make

We have seen a lot of geeky treats, but these motherboard cakes can’t be beat! Who would think to combine butter, eggs, flour, and sugar into something resembling a motherboard? It turns out there are multiple people who have done just that, with varying results.

You can bust out the full court press with green icing, Rolos, After Five mints, and so forth, or go for a more subdued, monochrome chocolatey mobo. In either case, one thing is certain: you’ll need wafer cookies on hand for the RAM slots.

Sure, they’re a little cartoony, but nonetheless I’d say that geekdom is getting to be so very delicious these days!

Constructable Straws Are Like Erector Sets for Milkshakes

Bendy straws are soooo last century. This constructable straw set allows you to make straws of all shapes and dimensions – even straws that allow you to drink from multiple glasses at the same time.

Designed by Frank Frisari and John McCoy, the set includes a variety of rubber connector pieces to hook your straws together. You can buy a set for $14 from MoMA.
