I promise, this is the last gingerbread thing I talk about this holiday season, but c’mon this one is Serenity from Firefly, so I couldn’t ignore it. That is one good looking ship no matter what it’s made out of.

I love how all of the icing is dripping down too. This tasty vessel was made by Kristoffer Gressli and his brother. Like most gingerbread creations, this one also has some other candies on it as well.

It’s all so pretty, I wouldn’t know where to take a bite from first. Maybe the back section and work my way up. If there is anyone manning that little ship, I suggest you get out. Unless it is a gummy-crew, and if that’s the case, just man your stations and prepare for my attack.

Either way, even with Darth Vader gone, the Skywalkers still have to celebrate Christmas, even if they are in a galaxy far, far away.

Chris McVeigh came up with a couple of fun scenes of a LEGO Star Wars Christmas. The Halifax-based photographer has all sorts of fun minifig photos and other cool LEGO creations that you can check out on his Flickr site or his Tumblr.

If you like these then you can get some prints of these and other shots over at Chris’ Society6 site. Most of them are available as 10″×7″ prints and sell for $16 (USD) each.

It’s that time of year again. Geeks are making gingerbread treats that look like other cool things. In this case it’s a gingerbread Breezehome from Skyrim made by a super cute girl.

The girl in question is Youtuber Frosty Starcraft, and though I haven’t gotten around to playing the game yet myself, from what I know, it looks like she did a pretty awesome job of replicating a little Breezehome located in the city of Whiterun.

It has Alduin the dragon on the roof, what looks like Frosted Mini-Wheat shingles and candy for brickwork, and there’s even a dead giant spider right next to the house. I think she did an awesome job. I’m sure it was as fun to make as it will be to eat.

If you have kids and they’re anything like mine, they are apt to bust out singing and dancing at any given moment to some sort of soundtrack in their heads. One episode of Dancing with the Stars, my daughter danced with her cat and after a talk about how kitty’s legs don’t move like our arms, poor ol’ Cutie still fears music.

The point is, I end up with a lot of video of my kids doing weird things dancing around. I bet most parents have a bunch of that stuff too. If you want to turn some of those dancing videos into holiday vids you can share, Reel Doozy is a new iOS app that will let you. The app uses green screen tech to superimpose Santa, elves, or that Keenan Cahill kid from YouTube in the video dancing with you.

The app lets you upload the videos you make to YouTube, Facebook, and email them as well. The app is free and you can get the first four video foregrounds free as well. Grab the app on the iTunes App Store now if you want.

Fans of Doctor Who, will be impressed with what they’ve come up with. Their Dalek has all of the right colors for the holidays, and a Santa hat, all made out of LEGO bricks. In total, the family used about 100,000 bricks and 200 hours to complete their jollier than usual looking Dalek for Christmas.

Each year, the Addis family uses a different LEGO themed decoration to feature in their Christmas card. From nutcrackers, to churches, to angels, quite a few have been done in the past 18 years, but the Dalek is by far their geekiest (and greatest) creation.

If you’re giving a Minecraft-related offering to a loved one this Christmas, you can add an extra special touch by combining 1 gift + 1 Minecraft Wrapping Paper. Of course you can use it to wrap any gift, but if your recipient isn’t familiar with the game they might think you hate them because of the drab and blocky print on the paper.

The wrapping paper comes in two variants – cobblestone and diamond. It would be awesome if you can find a pickaxe-shaped letter opener or cutter that can be used to <del>mine</del> open the gifts.

Craft a browser and head to J!NX to order some Minecraft wrapping paper; both designs cost $8 (USD) each. Bury your gifts underground and make your recipient dig ‘em up for added authenticity.

You’re probably sick of anything related to Angry Birds by now. I was never addicted to the game myself, but I’m still impressed by YouTuber kumbaric, who ported the wildly successful game on an unlikely platform: Christmas lights.

But whereas the original game had loose physics and required experimentation, kumbaric’s version will involve even more trial and error because the birds are invisible. The game is played <del>in first person, bird’s eye, first bird’s eye</del> using a slingshot-shaped controller with three buttons, one each to aim to the left, right and center. The power of the shot depends on how long you hold down a button. The whole thing is done using over 20,000 lights, and a bunch of Light-o-rama controllers. It even broadcasts audio on a low-wattage FM transmitter so people driving by in their cars can hear the sounds.

Watch the video to see the game in action:

I have to make a confession. I bookmarked this image all the way back in January 2009, thinking to myself that I should post it for Christmas that year. Of course, I completely forgot about it, and just found it again. Being that it’s the Christmas season now, I figured, why not put it up along with the stockings now?

What you’re looking at here is a Christmas tree, Katamari Damacy style. At least this is what one looks like after it’s rolled up all the ornaments, lights and tinsel from an ordinary tree. Though I’m surprised there are no little elves or tiny reindeer in there, with their arms and legs flailing about. Maybe once the Prince rolls it around a bit more.

This awesomely geeky creation was posted by flickr contributor szy a couple of years back, but it deserves to be a regular geeky holiday tradition, right alongside the Pac-Man Xmas tree, I think.

Looking for a holiday gift for a Blizzard fan? A Diablo III pre-order would do. But what if they already have that? Then pre-order Heart of the Swarm for them. If they have that as well, that’s where you start running out of options. And that’s where 72pins and their Blizzard series of NES cartridges come in.

In case you’re not familiar with 72pins, the group sells functional NES cartridges, but instead of the original cover the cartridges have NES-style cover art featuring modern video games, such as the Blizzard games you see here – StarCraft, Diablo and of course the all-conquering World of Warcraft.

Enter the Konami Code and spawn at 72pins’ store to order the Blizzard Series three-pack for $42(USD). You can also order the NES cartridges separately for $16 each, except for the StarCraft cartridge because it’s already sold out. Again, each cartridge contains a random working NES game inside, so if your recipient still has a working NES you’re basically giving them a 6-in-3 set.

We all do it. Despite the fact that we might be destroying some fragile major award under the Christmas tree, we like to shake our wrapped gifts to try and figure out their contents. Well, here’s a geeky prank you can play on your loved ones the next time they go to shake their presents.

Instructables contributor DIYHacksAndHowTos came up with this simple circuit which you can install into a box, and it’ll play back any sound you want when the box is shaken.

The circuit requires just a small number of inexpensive components you should be able to pick up at a Radio Shack (or order from their website), and minimal soldering skills. Once assembled, you record the sound you want it to play, hot glue it to the box, and let the fun begin.

Nice sound there at the end. Though I like the idea of recording Chewbacca’s growl or maybe some broken glass if I make one.

This seems like a simple enough gag that someone over at ThinkGeek should consider turning it into a product for next Christmas. For now, you’ll hae to build your own. You can find complete build instructions over at Instructables.

I’ll start out by saying that I’m not particularly religious, so I don’t know if any of you guys will be offended by this. If you are, you’re probably reading the wrong website. When I stumbled onto this, I couldn’t resist sharing this quirky little scene of the Nativity, retold with robots.

The sculpture tells the story of the birth of Christ through three robotic wisemen, Mary, Joseph and sweet little Baby Robot Jesus. Instead of gold, frankincense and myrrh, the Magi are bearing a vacuum tube, a gear, and a set of LEGOs, which seems like a much better set of gifts to me. Except for the gold part. Maybe the gear is made of gold, though.

This adorable and humorous sculpture was made by Day of the Robot. It measures about 10.5″(w) x 5.5″(d), and the robots are crafted from Ultracal (high-strength plaster), wire, and polymer clay. The whole thing is set onto a metal base, which has LEDs underneath to illuminate the auspicious occasion.

If you’re a robot geek and have a sense of humor about the holidays, you can grab this unique Robot Nativity scene over at Etsy for $200 (USD).

Samsung takes time out from battling lawsuits to get into the holiday spirit. Strangely enough, the advertisement was commissioned by the Japanese arm of the Korean electronics giant. Called Galaxy X’Mas Hugs, the ad features Hug-chan, a humanoid robot outfitted with a Galaxy Tab for a head, its cold arms ready to give a warm embrace.

Hug-chan is based on RIC (Robot In Character), a promotional robot made by RT corporation. Watch the endearing scene below:

…and then it tightened its grip and crushed the little girl. Seriously though I think the ad didn’t squeeze the most out of Hug-chan. I wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung takes the robot around Japan to hug more people. Except Apple employees.

Did you ever notice how many of the enemies in the Super Mario Bros. games are rotund? So it was only fitting that these guys would become round Christmas ornaments, right?

Jason and Alex from Basement Invaders heard the call, and rose to the challenge with these Mario enemies ornaments. Each one is hand-painted with a famous Mario enemy. I personally like Chain Chomp the best – because he even has a little chain on him.

Or if you’re a purist, you could just grab a set of Bob-ombs only:

Each ornament is hand-painted, and they sell in a set of four for $28(USD) over on Etsy. Individual ornaments go for $9 each. They’ve also got some mini-ornament sets for as little as $15. And if you’re looking to fill out your tree with a Mario theme, you might want to consider some Mario mustache ornaments too.

What’s better than a Cthulhu 2012 calendar? How about a calendar app, that will deliver complete insanity directly to your mobile device? It sounds like some Cthulhu cultists have embraced new technology in order to make more people insane during this holiday season. I’m all for this, as people are already loony this time of year.

Red Wasp Design’s app features an original Cthulhu image that can be opened each day. You’ll find Cthulhu having lots of fun with Santa Claus, mistletoes, and Christmas trees. These fun images have been merged, mixed, mutated and mashed up with other, darker figures from the Cthulhu Mythos.

You’ll also get to answer a Cthulhu-related question each and every day. The tally will be revealed on the 25th, and it will give you your Mythos rating. It’s available at the iTunes App store for iPhone and iPod ($0.99), for iPad ($1.99) and in the Android Market ($1.09).

Most people string Christmas lights around their trees or by the window, but who says you can’t get creative with lights this holiday season?

Instead of putting up just the usual tree this year, the Holburne Museum in Bath, England decided that they wanted to do something different and called in an artist to do their lights for them. And boy, did Bruce Munro get creative with the lights.

He painstakingly connected and set up over 5,000 glass spheres to come up with the Field of Lights on the grounds of the museum. The bulbs are planted on the ground, with the spheres supported by acrylic stems. Each of the spheres is threaded with fiber optic cables and are lit by a color projector.

Of his work, Munro says, “I think it is a piece with universal appeal and I’ll be happy if it makes people smile at Christmas time.”

I definitely think there will be a lot who will be smiling because of the Field of Lights this Christmas. I know I would, if I had a chance to visit the museum.

The 8-Bit Wreath measures 10.5″ x 13″, and is made from durable EVA foam (which happens to be what pixels are actually made of – I know I read that somewhere.) It sells for just $19.99 (USD) over at ThinkGeek.

Experienced shoppers buy their holiday gifts early, so if you’re looking for a unique and memorable gift for an old school gamer, you better get one of Retrozone’s Xmas cartridges. These are original cartridges for the NES and SNES (or Famicom and Super Famicom, if you want to be OG) with Christmas-themed games. Best of all, they have “colorful blinky lights” built-in!

The 8-bit NES Xmas cartridge contains a game called Fireplace Bash, a 4-player game where the objective is to bash everyone else’s fireplaces. Think Battle City but simpler.

The 16-bit SNES Xmas cartridge on the other hand has a game called Christmas Craze, which seems like a platformer.

The lights in both cartridges change depending on what’s happening in the games, but they’ll happily blink and shine for you even if you don’t play the games. You’ll still have to plug them in to their respective consoles though. Colorful blinky lights need power.

You can order the Xmas cartridges from Retrozone for $39 (USD) each. You can also have text displayed in the games and printed on an accompanying card for an additional $6.
