Here’s a nice installation that would go well with those items. Made by UK-based artist Susan Stockwell, this map of the world is made of computer components.

Simply titled “World”, the map is not 100% accurate – Antarctica is missing, and I’m sure there are hundreds, if not thousands of tiny islands and islets missing – but you’ll see that Stockwell tried to indicate the appropriate climate and land types using appropriately colored circuit boards.

Ah, gotta love Etsy. While the place is loaded with awesome and amusing handcrafted goods, sometimes artists create stuff that’s just plain strange. With that in mind, I give you…

…The Data Toilet.

Actually, PCB Creations calls this toilet they made from recycled circuit boards “The Royal Data Throne,” but I prefer my moniker. I was actually going to say something about how you could flush your bad memory down the toilet, but I figure I’ll leave the captions to you guys. I’m sure you’ll come up with something more clever than me.

Thankfully, at just 12-inches tall, and 5-inches wide, this circuit board toilet is way too small to sit on, so unless you’ve got a really small (and well-padded) ass, don’t get any funny ideas about actually taking a dump in it.

If you’ve got $500 (USD) to waste, go hit a casino and bet it all on number 2 on the roulette wheel. Then bet your winnings all on the same number again. If you still have $500 left afterwards, you can grab this oddity over on Etsy now.

I think I’ve mentioned this before – I’m not really crazy about insects. But for some reason, dragonflies have never really bothered me. They’re big, buzzy and clumsy, but they can’t do any harm, so maybe that’s why I don’t mind them. But if I ever saw a dragonfly with a 32-inch wingspan, I think I’d run the other way.

That’s exactly what we’ve got here. This giant dragonfly sculpture measures a whopping 32″ (w) x 28″(l) x 7″ (h). The coolest part is that it’s made completely out of discarded printed circuit boards. Not a single surface of this giant bug – including it’s six stick-legs – isn’t made of electronic part-encrusted circuit boards.

I love how the legs are made of integrated circuits, and those multi-faceted capacitor eyeballs are awesome. This big bug was lovingly crafted by Steve Rodrig of PCB Creations, and is a one-of-a-kind sculpture, perfect for that geek who also has a fondness for insects.

It’s listed right now for $400 (USD) over on Etsy. While you might think that’s a lot to spend on a bunch of old circuit boards, I think it’s actually totally reasonable for all of the work that must have gone onto building this thing.

P.S. Ignore my headline. I think it would be really cool if this thing could fly.

When I was a kid I was always tearing up old radios or something that I found around the house or my dad’s office just to see what was inside. I really liked tearing up the old CB radios they were throwing out to see the circuit boards and transistors inside. If you have ever popped open a keyboard you will have noticed that most have flexible circuit boards inside.

A designer named Paola Mirai takes those flexible circuit boards from inside of keyboard and other electronics like inkjet cartridges and turns them into jewelry. The flexible circuit boards are cut to size and then the shapes are put into some sort of resin that is clear called orotrasparente. Each of the pieces of jewelry are handmade.

The finished jewelry is really cool and I particularly like that wedding band looking ring. That would be perfect for a geek wedding. Pricing for the jewelry starts at 65 EUR (appx. $93 USD) for the rings and 145 EUR (appx. $208 USD) for bracelets. Would you wear a wedding band made from an old circuit board?

We’ve seen the Circuit Board Tie that Scatterbrain Ties has come up with. Now it’s time to take your geek pride up a notch by getting one that lights up.

And you can get one from Enlighted Designs, a company that prides itself with producing illuminated clothing, including the all-new Circuit Board LED Tie.

The circuit board is actually just printed on the fabric but the LED lights integrated into the tie are fully functional and flash in different patterns. The addition of the LED lights will either make the tie more appealing to your geek side or make you recoil because of its hideousness. So which is it?

These ties are actually made-to-order so you can head on over to Englighted Designs to order one for $75 (USD).

To make matters worse, there are 400 of these blasted end-bringers, each chip individually numbered. Members of the Resistance, make sure to snag all of them up and destroy them before the robots get their hands on one. You can pre-order them from Hollywood Collectibles for $169 (USD). That’s a small price to pay for our continued existence. Although if you multiply that by 400, it’s almost not worth it.

It was destined to be. A while ago, BRC Designs released their awesome Binary Table (which wasn’t really binary at all). Now, they’re releasing a new chair that will match it. I just wonder how comfortable it will be. It looks slightly dangerous to me.

The Binary Chair 02 looks quite interesting, assuming you love computer circuit boards and wires poking you in the behind. Like the Binary Table, it’s made out of salvaged electronic components and is definitely a conversation starter. Their previous chair, the appropriately named Binary Chair 01, seems like something that could fit in your living room. The new one goes better at a dining table.

They are interesting to look at, and to admire since they are more like pieces of art than practical pieces of furniture. Would I have one in my home? Probably not, but they do look pretty amazing.

Michael Phipps of Scatterbrain Ties silkscreens these convincing looking circuit ties by printing metallic copper and silver inks on a green (or black) microfiber fabric. The artist doesn’t say what the circuit board is from, but without any parts on it, I doubt it would work anyhow. Though I think it would be cool if it actually had foil conductors instead of inks and had a whole computer system built into it. I can dream, can’t I?

If you want to wire up the circuit board tie for yourself, head on over to Etsy, where you can grab one for $30 (USD). If you want to go all-out, you can grab the matching T-shirt.

Museum curator Akimoto Yuji and ceramicist Mitsuke Masagasu worked together to create this delicate looking speaker being produced by Nendo. These high-end speakers are 1mm thin and for now are not available yet. But if and when they ever go into production, they will most likely be incredibly expensive from the way they look. Just look at these things. Don’t they just ooze money?

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve always found circuit boards interesting. Yes, that partly means “I don’t understand what the hell is going on here”, but I really do find the patterns mysterious and amazing, because a human like me designed this, and it’s this engraved soul of the computer that lets me check out cat videos on YouTube. So I wasn’t exactly surprised to read that someone had used the patterns in circuit boards as veneer for furniture and whatnot, but I was surprised by the beauty of these works.

These boxes and sculptures are made by Theo Kamecke. Space enthusiasts might recognize Kamecke as the director and writer of the documentary Moonwalk One. As is often the case with inspiration, Kamecke was perusing stacks of circuit boards some random day when the idea hit him. Kamecke “saw in the graphic patterns of electronic circuitry with their endless variety the same beauty we perceive in seashells, in crystals, in the grain of wood or even in the tree itself.” So he started making sculptures, shelves, boxes and wall pieces using a technique called marquetry, which in simple terms is covering a structure to form a decorative pattern. Usually veneer is used to cover items, but we know what Kamecke used in his beautiful creations:

Better yet, check out his website to see a ton of his works. I can only hope that when the robots arrive at the notion of art they don’t think of using our innards to cover their artwork.

Created out of recycled circuit boards by a guy simply going by “Dan”, they’re not actually windows, but give off the appearance of stained glass because of the colors he selected. The window frame itself was made by using sandstone for added effect. Dan says that the theme is a sort of good vs evil, since one side is sort of red while the other is blue.

We’ve seen a business card that light up, and even ones that ask if you’re a person. But in terms of nerdity, none of those can come close to Engr. Ramiro Veredas’ circuit board business card, which he says has “more CPU power than the computer that led the man to the moon.” The CPU in question? A 16-bit, 32MHz microcontroller.

So yeah, it’s not impressive by today’s standards – I mean if this thing can send men to the moon, then our phones are probably smart enough to send us to Jupiter or something – but it sure makes for good conversation, and that could help when you’re on a job interview.

As you can see, the card has a USB connector. When it’s plugged into a computer, a script automatically launches an HTML file containing Veredas’ CV. The card’s 24KB onboard memory is enough to store the script and the HTML file, but it can be augmented with up to 32 MB of memory if needed – and that’s a big if.

The back of the card has an additional message, although I think we can all tell just by looking that it’s more than just a business card. Actually it would have made more sense if it said “This is also a business card!”

ThinkGeek likes to throw around fancy stats like the fact that the ruler measures 1.067 nano light-seconds long, but according to my computations, I come up with a length of 3,048,000,000 angstroms, with an accuracy of 16 15,875,000 angstrom sub-segments.

So get to measuring and grab one over at ThinkGeek for $7.49 (USD).

One of the best (and easiest) ways to leave your unique stamp on your guitar playing is by keeping a few really sweet picks around. Note, please, that this only applies to actual guitars–not the little plastic variety. But if you also happen to like video games, of the musical variety or otherwise, or other general geekery, these particular customized picks might be right up your proverbial alley.

Circuit boards! Or rather the cut and shaped remainders of old circuit boards. Could there be a better fate for the innards of computers past? For most things, being “put out to pasture” means a life of boredom, but these circuit boards get to embark on the rock star life in their twilight years. If only we could all be so lucky.

TheBlueKraken’s Etsy store has a wide variety of recycled circuit board goods, such as jewelry, but the picks are what drew my eye. The price tag doesn’t hurt, either: at $7 or $8 bucks a pop, I dunno that you’ll be tossing them to your adoring fans, but you might certainly show ‘em off to a friend or two.

Next time you need to go to a semiconductor semi-formal (see what I did there?), you might want to grab a pair of these clever geeky cufflinks made from old circuit boards. But unlike those shiny new 2010 Olympic medals, you can actually tell that these were upcycled from old circuitry.

Created by jewelry artist Amanda of the eponymous Beadwork by Amanda, these circuit board cufflinks are the perfect gift for the nerd who has everything. Assuming they have a tuxedo or dress shirt in their closet of course. And one of these doesn’t count.

Each set features a one-of-a-kind pattern, but you can specify different circuit board colors including green, dark green, red or blue, as well as whether you want round or square ‘links. Each circuit is set into either brass bezel cups and then covered with a durable resin to protect them from wear.

Amanda makes a variety of unique circuit board jewelry, including pendants, keychains and money clips over on her Etsy shop. The circuit board Cufflinks sell for $25 (USD) a pair – just a little more than that tuxedo t-shirt set you back.

[Thanks for the tip, Jay!]

Check that out: colorful, artistic, and wholly edible, which means it’s the best of all worlds. This is a candy rendition of an iPhone circuit board, which means it was probably very expensive along with being awesome. Can’t have anything associated with the iPhone being cheap, can we?

One day you’re just poking along, handling all your business NES-style, running games, having someone blow hot air into your space, and the next? You’ve been torn out of your cozy little home and someone’s fitting all sorts of new parts onto your body. This poor circuit board… from Nintendo to clock is a step down, but I bet it looks pretty good on the wall.

For the true Nintendo fan, can there be any other clock? Well, all other Nintendo-themed clocks aside, of course.

As amazing as this clock is, is it forty bucks amazing? The NES board clock is available at the GeekGear Etsy store, and it is a fine piece of time-telling machinery, as well as the guts of one of the greats. Guess it just depends on how big a fan you are.

The machine, which was constructed from fluorescent vacuum tubes, also tells time. Just in case you want it to do something slightly less hypnotic but more useful. It is the opposite of cheap at $125, but if you are one of the twelve people with money to burn in this economy, and you’re like me, you might just find this hilariously random and therefore awesome.

With the holidays just over a month away, I figured it was time to share this clever Hanukkah gift that I came across a little while back.

This modern spin on the Menorah is made from recycled circuit boards, and offers up a bright red LED for each night of celebration. From a strictly religious standpoint, I’m not really sure if LEDs qualify as a appropriate substitute for candles – but on the other hand, this Menorah won’t burn your house down either. To illuminate each light, just flip the appropriate DIP switch.

The LED Menorah measures in at about 9″(w) x 5.5″(h), so it should fit nicely on your windowsill for all the passersby to see. And it runs on a single 9-volt battery which should last for several seasons (no more drippy candle wax).

You can find the LED Menorah over at FredFlare for just $25 bucks. Trust me, it’s a much better gift than another pair of support socks or tighty whities.
