There are those areas near the collar, the layers on frilly clothing, the places near the cuffs. Sometimes, I just give up trying to iron some shirts because of sheer frustration. That’s probably what Choi Hyemin’s Easy Iron concept aims to prevent so you can get all your ironing done in a jiffy without blowing your top. It’s fitted with two iron plates at the bottom. When you get to a narrow area, just push a trigger to raise the wider rear section, leaving you with only a narrow front ironing surface. This, in turn gets those hard to work areas where the regular irons would be rendered ineffective.

So here’s more proof that sex sells. I think it’s sort of sad why a lot of retailers push women dressed in skimpy or revealing stuff when they aren’t even selling said clothing (or rather, lingerie) in the first place. Liquor ads? Perfume campaigns? Ads for deodorant?

And now it’s spread on over to ads for winter clothing. Yes, you read that right: winter clothing. Moosejaw decided that they wanted to boost their sales by showing their models in their underwear. How? By releasing an X-ray app that worked with their Winter Catalog to do just that.

Just fire up the app and hover your device over the print catalog or digital catalog, and you can see the models in all their near-naked splendor. And it worked, too. Moosejaw has seen a 37% increase in sales from the same period in November of last year. At least they didn’t discriminate, and have both women and men in their undies.

Gary Wohlfeill, Creative Director at Moosejaw, explains the move: “Our goal at Moosejaw is to always create a unique and notable customer experience. Something that everyone who shops with us will want to tell ten friends about. The X-Ray catalog and X-Ray App are designed to create an incredibly cool, interactive and fun experience that breaks the barrier between our print and digital brand.”

What do you think?

It’s been more than a year since Japanese design duo fift came up with the Wipe Shirt, a long sleeved shirt with a microfiber patch for cleaning gadgets and glasses. At that time, the first iPad had just been released, and since then, many more tablets, smartphones and other gadgets have been released. Glasses haven’t become obsolete either. So it’s not surprising that fift release an updated take on their rag-on-a-shirt concept.

Whereas fift seemed ashamed of its microfiber twist with the first Wipe Shirt, relegating it on one of the shirt cuffs or shirt tails, the cleaning cloth is front and center (and bottom) on the Wipe T-Shirt. Fift say the three stripe design is inspired by a car wiper, but it kinda reminds me a bit of the Wi-Fi icon as well.

Unfortunately fift weren’t inspired by the price of shirts or microfiber cloths. Like its predecessor, the Wipe T-shirt is still much too expensive. Generate Design is selling it for a laughable $89 (USD) each. For a shirt that’s all about functionality and isn’t that fashionable to begin with, I wouldn’t pay even half of that for this shirt. I can only hope that 3M releases a similar product.

One day robots will enslave us, then kill us. I can’t see it going any other way. The only way it could be worse is if they captured us and dressed us up in uniforms first, because that just seems really demeaning.
Well, it looks like that day is coming thanks to researchers at the Nara Institute Of Science And Technology (NAIST) in Tokyo. These geniuses are working on a robot that will one day dress humans autonomously. Dress us like what though? That’s the question. The current prototype can help to put a T-shirt on a dummy in about 10 seconds.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

That means, whether you like it or not, you are getting dressed, meatbag! Then you can report to your cage and await further instructions. Remember the old joke when a kid said to another kid, “Did your mother dress you this morning?” Well, actually it was a robot. Not my fault at all that I have a woman’s top and shorts on in November.

Most people express themselves by talking about whatever’s on their mind or by writing about it. Others create works of art and resort to painting or sculpting to make some sort of physical representation of what they’re feeling or thinking. Then there’s the more shallow means of self-expression: makeup, nail polish, hair color – and clothing.

You might have seen the entire saga more than ten times. You might have decorated your entire den and bedroom with movie memorabilia and tiny toy figures. But you won’t be the ultimate Star Wars aficionado if you don’t have this Star Wars Stormtrooper corset in your closet (or get your girlfriend one, if you’re a guy.)

Funny thing is, there are no actual stormtroopers on this thing (though there are a couple of Clone Troopers.) The front of the corset is actually just plain black, so you can layer on a cardigan if you don’t feel like showing your true colors on some days. The Star Wars corset is available for $39.99 (USD) from MayoMayhem’s Etsy shop.

But my favorite part of the collection isn’t the clothing. It’s the pixel furniture, which includes a pair of awesome blocky armchairs, a matching café table, a pixel-patterned Oriental rug, and some awesome pixel light bulb fixtures.

I would live in a house filled with this stuff if I could. But I can’t. So for now, the only way to experience this is to head to the Anrealage showroom in Harajuku, Tokyo.

A few years back, I wrote about an unusual concept backpack which had a sound system built into it. I’m not sure if that pack ever made it to market, but leave it to the ingenuity of one of the artists of Etsy to come up with a real one you can buy.

San Francisco artist/software engineer Joe Andolina (aka Megaplow) is actually calling this wearable audio system a “Speaker Vest,” but from everything I can tell, it’s really more like a backpack, just built into a vest. Whatever it’s called, you’ll definitely draw attention walking down the street with this booming audio system strapped to your body.

It’s actually constructed from a Dainese Gilet Cali Tessuto vest, with a Boss audio Bass900 subwoofer strapped to the back. I like the two little satellite speakers that sit over your shoulders while wearing this thing. Power is supplied by a 10-cell rechargeable battery belt which might make you look a little like a suicide bomber, so you might not want to bring this thing with you to the airport.

If you’re ready to rattle your bones and be the life of the party, you can get this wearable speaker vest over on Etsy now for $850 (USD).

With the exception of Lady Gaga and others who work in fashion or in the entertainment business, I can say that clothing is something that hasn’t really changed drastically with the rapid advancement of technology. But that was before I saw these pieces of clothing that are seamless, laser cut, and all sorts of strange.

Aside from designs that are completely, well, out-of-this-world (and not in the good way), these pieces of clothing don’t seem very wearable. I mean, if I’m going to go out in some fashionable or new age clothing, I would at least want something that will sufficiently cover my back side. (Video below somewhat NSFW.)

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Most of these neoprene <del>clothing</del> pieces of pre-cut cloth barely cover any part of your body at all, with the exception of one that’s got some funky shirring going on at the side. Almost all the others showcase the entire front, side, or back of your body for the world to see.

Maybe designer Yitzhak Abecassis should come up with seamless, pre-cut swimsuits instead of clothing. Feels more appropriate, in a sense.

In a world with over two billion people, sometimes life can get a little bit too crowded. It’s not always easy (or possible) to run into an empty room and lock yourself in it whenever you need some alone time.

There is, however, something else you can turn to: Privacy Shells.

Thought up by Veasyble, they start out as accessories like handbags, a hat, or a head wrap. When you feel like isolating yourself from the world, just reach out, unfold, and expand the accordion-like accessory you have with you and hide away.

Perhaps the one I find the most interesting is the handbag, which is huge enough to hide away two people inside the shell when unfolded. Sure, you might be able to get a few minutes of privacy with your special someone, but be prepared to be stared and ogled at when you emerge from your shell.

The Veasyble privacy shells are still a concept for now, but for sure you’ll be able to stand up and take notice if ever they’ll be released commercially because they aren’t exactly very subtle.

If your fashion tastes lean more towards the geek than the gross like Lady GaGa’s meat dress, the cool color-changing mood dress might be for you.

The gown is made using SKIN technology and the dress has bubbles on it that glow and change colors depending on the wearers body heat or mood.

The dress was made by Francesca Rosella of CuteCircuit. It’s sort of like a wearable mood ring, only it’s a dress. It isn’t as sexy as that LED snowball dress, but it’s cool.

I think mood clothing is a great idea, that way I could tell at a glance if I should talk to my wife or run and hide.

You might recall those geeky circuit board ties we featured earlier by Enlighted Designs that had several LED lights running through the entire design to give them a more authentic look.

Well, the woman behind all that illuminated clothing, Janet Hansen, is at it again, but this time, she’s made something for the ladies: the Snowball Mini Dress.

The dress doesn’t look like something that women would normally wear for regular occasions (except, of course, if they were Lady Gaga or trying to channel her sense of style or something.) Another occasion this dress would be appropriate for is Halloween.

While it’s definitely on the sexy side, given its length, I don’t think this is a dress that many people could pull off for family dinners or office parties at all.

The literal highlight of the dress comes when the lights go out. Just flick a switch and instantly be the bearer of light center of attention center of attraction (at least, to the light seekers) in the room.

The dresses are made-to-order and have actually made several appearances over the years at events and fashion shows. If you want to have one custom made for you, then you might want to drop Janet a line or two.

Etsy seller ArtificeClothing offers up all kinds of sexy clothing, but it is the TRON inspired pieces like the one shown above that catch your eye. This sexy geek-wear glows when it gets about 10 minutes of bright light exposure. They recommend charging them for an hour under bright light and they are then good for about 12 hours.

This item is listed for $105.00 CAD ($109.73 USD), but don’t expect to get the whole get-up for that price. That money just buys you the underbust corset. You’ll have to complete this outfit by buying all of the pieces.

So to the maker of these sour milk dresses, I suggest you show photos of your creations and designs first before telling the women what they’re made of, just to lessen the ick factor and just to show them that rancid milk couture could look oh-so-good and glamorous.

The woman behind these creations are Anke Domaske, a designer who’s got a background in microbiology and a good eye for fashion. Instead of using fabrics like every other designer in the world, Anke chose to work with waste milk that didn’t quite meet the standards, rendering it unfit for human consumption.

After seeing Miss Death Star the other day, it made me wonder what other cool, retro geek-chic outfits were out there for those of you without the time to make a DIY cosplay getup. These tube dresses will allow you to dress up like a life-size Nintendo Game Boy.

Each one is sewn from a jersey knit fabric, in colors everyone will identify with the Nintendo Game Boy. They come with some felt A/B buttons, as well as some ones for Start and Select, all placed in potentially inappropriate locations for pushing, unless you’re very intimate with its wearer.

While this particular Nintendo dress just sold yesterday, you can be sure that Etsy shop HereandThereVintage will continue to offer some pretty cool clothing for all geekettes. She’s got other versions of the same dress, which look just as cool.

The Game Boy dress sells for $65-70 (USD). And if they’re sold out, be sure to check out SewOeno’s Game Boy tube dress we featured last year.

A company called Fits.Me has invented robotic mannequins that can emulate thousands of different body types. The – wait, eager commenter. Before you launch into an immaculately-spelled, benevolent and profanity-free tirade deriding the laziness of man, let me assure you: Fits.Me knows that it’s easier to put the clothes on yourself to find out if they’re your size and style. They also know that you can’t do that when you’re shopping online.

According to Fits.me, 25% of online purchases are returned, mostly because customers discover – or decide – that the clothes they ordered don’t fit right. But with the FitBots, along with a virtual fitting room, customers will be able to see right away what the clothes will look like on them. The only downside to this? You have to know your exact measurements, because that’s what the software will use to adjust the bot’s body. Wrong measurements, wrong fit.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

You can test the virtual fitting room over at Fits.me’s website. Again, you’ll have to enter a few measurements to adjust the FitBot. Maybe the best solution lies with a Kinect-like device, but I imagine it would be quite a while before PCs with built-in full body scanners become standard.

While I have trouble calling any sock a spin-off sock, that’s what creator and knitter Ellen Botilda calls her TARDIS tribute socks. They were based on another pattern, but slightly altered. Now, all that I have to find is someone who will knit a pair of these for me!

Swallowed by Sky made the first TARDIS socks, but Ellen played with the design a bit before making her own. I don’t knit, so I don’t know how hard this is, but the best part is that the pattern is available for free here. Apparently they are easy to make if you do know how to knit.

I think what I like best is the patterning on this sock. It’s not just the colors that are used to show the paneling on the TARDIS, but the windowpane pattern is reproduced through the knit itself.

I was having a flashback to seventh grade not long ago with a group of similarly immature people on Facebook. We were going back and forth tossing out all the slang terms for breasts that we could think up from our childhood. Don’t ask how it got started. I am going to coin a new term for boobies after seeing this bra with hand painted mushroom and goomba from Super Mario Bros.

Goombas sounds like a nice name, but it lacks the panache of something like say chesticles. But if your girl wears this bra for you “show me your goombas” would be perfectly appropriate.

The mushroom and goomba bra will cost you $35. If Mario isn’t your thing you can get a bra painted with Pokéballs on each cup, or the classic NES controller with half on each breast.

The guys selling these bras are called SceeneShoes and they can custom paint you any bra you want, trademark-be-damned.

I was really pumped about this story for a few minutes. I thought all those donations to research institutions had finally paid off and science had created a woman with four boobs. Sadly, those two protrusions on the hips area aren’t extra breasts. Guys, our dreams of getting to second base and third base in one move are dashed. But this sensor-laden dress does have a trick up its (lack of) sleeves – that alien-looking camelback on it holds drinks.

Anouk Wipprecht’s DareDroid dress will dispense drinks depending on how charming you are. If you aren’t particularly charming to the host, you get a nasty glass of lukewarm milk. If you are charming, you get an alcoholic beverage – a White Russian. That part in the cleavage area is where the drinks are dispensed from.

Apparently walking up to the dress wearer triggers the sensors to produce milk. If you will play truth or dare with the wearer, your charm will get another drink. Yes, it’s as weird as it sounds. Check out the video and see the dress in action.

The weather on my side of the world has been crazy lately. One minute it’s scorching hot, and the next, it’s so humid that I can literally feel the water vapor hanging in the air condense on my skin.

Okay, that might be an exaggeration, but I’m not kidding about the erratic weather. Now if only there were some kind of clothing that could automatically cool me down once I begin breaking out a sweat. Oh, wait, there is already clothing that can do that.

Released and developed by the Columbia Sportswear Company, the Omni-Freeze line of clothing automatically cools down once sweat comes into contact with it. Each item in the line is made with special flat yarns that encourage the release of heat and altogether feel cooler to the touch. Aside from that, the flat yarns are bonded with a special chemical that reacts with sweat (or water) to provide a cooling effect.

The whole thing sounds like a really good idea to me. However, I can’t help but wonder: what if the wearer gets caught in a downpour? I doubt anyone would ever want to cool down even more during a heavy storm.

We’ve seen the Circuit Board Tie that Scatterbrain Ties has come up with. Now it’s time to take your geek pride up a notch by getting one that lights up.

And you can get one from Enlighted Designs, a company that prides itself with producing illuminated clothing, including the all-new Circuit Board LED Tie.

The circuit board is actually just printed on the fabric but the LED lights integrated into the tie are fully functional and flash in different patterns. The addition of the LED lights will either make the tie more appealing to your geek side or make you recoil because of its hideousness. So which is it?

These ties are actually made-to-order so you can head on over to Englighted Designs to order one for $75 (USD).
