I really like Netflix and other streaming services for movies and TV shows. I have always hoped that eventually there would be a lot more competition in the market and that would push movie studios and other content providers to allow more streaming content overall. If you are a fan of streaming content like me you might appreciate a new offering, Comcast called Streampix.

Streampix will allow you to view content on the web, your iPad and other mobile devices as well. There is a catch with the service though, it will only be offered to subscribers of Comcast cable. That means if you’re like me you live in an area where Comcast isn’t available you won’t be able to get access. For those that can get access it will cost an extra $4.99 per month. Apparently, it will be offered at no additional cost on some cable packages (like those expensive “Triple Play” bundles).

While Comcast has already been offering on-demand movies, the streaming service will offer past seasons of TV shows like 30 Rock, Lost, and many more. It will also have movies like Oceans 11, The Big Lebowski and others. I wonder if the service being tied specifically to a cable company if that will mean Streampix might get content that Netflix is unable to access.

I would bet most of us at one time or another has run across that holiday season channel on TV where all you see is a crackling fireplace with holiday music playing. Yeah, it’s pretty stupid. I remember running across it as a kid, and thinking it was much lamer than other cool holiday programming like Charlie Brown or that one-year they played that Ewok Christmas special.

If you are the boring sort that likes to stare at a fake fireplace, Comcast has seriously upgraded the Yule log watching experience for this holiday season. You can now stare at the fake burning log in full 3D. I might watch it if they occasional showed some 3D boobage too.

I think the only thing worse than actually having to sit on the couch and watch the Yule log burn would be having to sit and watch it burn wearing 3D glasses, and getting a headache while doing it. Cleaning up wrapping paper would be more fun.

After what seems like an eternity of waiting, Comcast has finally given the “green light” to TiVo’s software for release on their DVRs.

The two companies reached an agreement way back in March 2005 to offer TiVo’s applications running on Comcast hardware. The most significant integration combines TiVo’s best-in-class user interface with Comcast’s substantive On Demand programming service.

There’s no mention of an exact release date, but now that the software has been approved by Comcast, I’d expect to see them start offering the TiVo option out “any day now.”
