Love or hate Microsoft, the company makes some questionable commercials. I bet you have seen the commercials on TV from Microsoft that show people claiming they came up with ideas for certain features on Windows 7. A geek has now take some cool costumes, a green screen, and used his editing skills to cobbled together some parodies of those pretentious commercials.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The geeky parodies are about ideas for the Death Star. There are three commercials with a stormtrooper, Darth Vader, and Chewbacca. You can check out all three of the ads here and see for yourself.

The Chewbacca one is my favorite with the stormtrooper in the bottom corner translating to sign language. If you read sign language let us know if that trooper is actually signing something or just making hand motions.

The Super Bowl has come and gone and the entire event was a bit of opposite day for me. I generally avoid commercials like algebra homework when I watch TV. During the Super Bowl, I actually want to see the commercials as much as the game. The best one last night was the little kid dressed like Darth Vader trying to use the Force on everything and eventually “starting” the VW outside.

The little kid under that mask has been unveiled as one Max Page, a 6-year old. The little guy has been in acting for a while already and has appeared in The Young and the Restless. Max has a congenital heart defect as well called Tetralogy of Fallot, but he had that issue fixed as an infant and now uses a pacemaker. His docs say Max can lead a normal and healthy life with proper care.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

It’s cool to see the little dude that was under the mask for that commercial, my kids loved it too. My daughter still thinks she can make my wife’s Ford start by saying the magic word since I cranked it with the remote start while she tried to say abracadabra. If you missed the commercial online or during the game, check it out above.

While I really like the idea of using something like this as an alarm clock, I’ve always been worried that the brightness of an LCD screen would keep me from sleeping. Hmm, sleep or tech gadgets. That’s a tough one for me. I guess I’d have to go with the gadgets.

The Sony Dash is available over on Amazon for $199 if you care to check it out.

If you’ve ever wanted to record FM broadcasts to your MP3 player, but didn’t want the commercials or talk in between songs, today is your lucky day.

The new PopCatcher MusicDock MD-601 is a portable MP3 player and a standalone FM-radio dock that can capture FM broadcasts to MP3, commercial-free. The dock automatically discerns music from talk and commercials, then records only the music to the MP3 player. Tracks are cleanly extracted in 192 kbps format, and can be easily transferred to your PC or other media player. The PopCatcher costs roughly $214 USD and is well worth a look for DRM-haters everywhere.

According to this review on Scandanavian tech site, Prylfeber, the system is reported to work as advertised, although it doesn’t provide an easy way to automatically assign track information.
