With a compass, a tweezer, a toothpick, a pen, a glass breaker, 2 hidden compartments and ample space for money, the TMT Tactical Wallet is ten times more useful than me.

Made by North Carolina-based Toner Machining Technologies, this XXXXL cousin of Swiss army knives measures 4.0 x 3.57 x 1.150-inches and weighs a whopping 7 oz. when empty. It’s made of “CNC machined solid billet 6061-T6 (tempered) hard coat anodized Aluminum”. Trust me on this, I’m a blogger: the more words it takes to describe a material, the tougher it is.

The picture above shows the tweezer, the round, pointy glass breaker below it, and the toothpick. Below you see the pen, and the inside of the wallet. The Tactical Wallet is lined with O-ring seals “to keep water, dirt and dust from entering the interior.” TMT also claims that the Tactical Wallet provides the “ultimate in credit card information protection by actually blocking your personal information from the theft of RFID type scanning devices.”

But what if there’s a nuclear bomb explosion? No problem! Just hide in the Tactical Wallet and it will protect and sustain you for up to a thousand years! Need a weapon? It’s got you covered! The Tactical Wallet is also a nuclear bomb! Need a friend? The Tactical Wallet has a great sense of humor, and is very sociable! None of those statements are true, of course. I think.

The TMT Tactical Wallet sells for $125 (USD). Interested parties can call 828-432-8007 for more information; call the same number if you want to order via credit card. You can also send a check or money order to: Toner Machining Technologies PO Box 2876 Morganton, NC 28680. I bet MacGyver has a Tactical Wallet. Or not. He’d probably make one from scrap if he needed to.

Ever try to install a satellite dish? Speaking from personal experience, I can say that finding the right line-of-sight from the dish to the skies can be a real pain in the a$$. Now there’s a new app coming for the iPhone 3GS that could make satellite dish positioning just a bit easier.

DishPointer’s next-generation software uses augmented reality technology to overlay the exact position of the satellites on the live video from your iPhone. The application takes full advantage of the iPhone 3GS built-in compass, GPS, and accelerometer to show you the locations of the satellites in the sky. Check out the video below to see a preview of the application in action:

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

You’ll have no excuse for those pesky tree branches or leaves getting in the way of your mega 5-LNB high-def dish with this app in hand. And if you’re a satellite dish installer, you’ll definitely want this in your bag of tricks when it’s released.

DishPointer hasn’t revealed when the new augmented reality app will hit, but says it should coincide with the release of iPhone OS 3.1 (rumored to be in September). For now, you can check out DishPointer’s other satellite pointing apps here.

The folks at The Boy Genius Report have a couple of screens from an iPhone debugging menu, and their Apple insider is telling them that the evidence points to a built-in magnetometer for the next hardware revision of the wildly successful device.

As we all know, a magnetometer tells you how close you are to Magneto. What? It doesn’t — It’s for what? The strength and direction of a magnetic field? Why, that’s even better! It’s exactly what nobody’s been asking for.

But I guess giving people what they want – such as a better camera, or support for Flash – is the concept of inferior minds. Perhaps real geniuses give people something they didn’t know they want. Or perhaps Apple saw that no one is catering to the needs of the stylish and tech-savvy miners, geologists and archeologists, people who want a magnetometer and twenty seven fart apps in one awesome package. What vision; what foresight.
