While they’ve previously taken a smaller 21.5-inch iMac and dipped it in rose gold plate, this monster is the mother of all computers for those with a taste for the finer things. This particular iMac has had its stock aluminum plated with polished 24 karat gold, and coated with a clear finish to ensure it remains shiny. It’s also got a matching gold keyboard, and Magic Trackpad – though I don’t see a golden magic mouse to go with.

We’ve featured Computer Choppers’ exquisite craftsmanship on a pre-unibody MacBook Pro before, but which millionaire in his right mind would want a previous generation golden laptop? It just doesn’t make sense! From what I understand, this time only the case has been coated with 24k gold. The keyboard and trackpad are merely “color matched”, whatever that means. It’s still quite a piece of work though. The company also claims that no special care is needed when handling the golden laptop because the plating is scratch-proof. It’s the opposite of thief-proof though.

Just like the ordinary models that Apple sells for unwashed middle class peons, the 24k gold plated MacBook Pros are available in 13″, 15″ and 17″ versions. Pricing starts at $5,000 (USD), but who cares about that. Have your people call Computer Choppers‘ people so they can work something out.

Apparently our pals over at Computer Choppers have made it their mission in life to color anodize and metallic plate anything and everything that can be anodized or plated. And the aluminum-shelled iPod Shuffle 3G fits that bill just perfectly. As was the case with their colorful anodized Mac Mini, these colors are much more durable than paint, and electrochemically bound to the metal so they won’t flake over time.

Now you’re looking at a price of $129 (USD) for a colorful Shuffle like the ones shown above (a $50 premium over Apple’s standard 4GB model), and prices go all the way up to $199 if you want to do something crazy like get yours plated in platinum. The guys over at Computer Choppers are now offering a custom Mac Mini anodizing service, letting you really give your computer a new look. The great thing about the anodizing process is that it’s highly scratch resistant and doesn’t chip off like paint can, plus your machine keeps that great metal look that paints often cover up.

Colors run the gamut, including such lovelies as blood red, a sapphire-like deep blue and emerald-esque dark green among others. Exotics like a hard black, graphics, custom logos and even a camouflage finish are also available for an up-charge. Prices for the service start at $199 USD, and go up from there. The company can do the same for you, but it’ll cost ya. The estimated cost for the plating, painting and etching work will set you back between $1200 and $1500. For a bit extra, they’ll customize the Apple logo cutout with a custom design of your choice.

The machine has been touring the country as a showcase piece for the company, and has only about 30 hours of use on it. Now that they’re ready to move on to the next big thing, so it’s up for sale. Starting bid for this one-of-a-kind machine is $2500, but it’s sure to rise before the auction ends on September 27th.
