The iPhone is a cutting edge piece of technology, so of course it makes sense to take away its portability and add an old fashioned 1930s style handset. Makes perfect sense to me.

This iPhone Cordless Handset will let you connect your iPhone with the base via Bluetooth, then the cordless handset communicates with the base via DECT 6.0 wireless technology from up to 160 feet.

All you need to do then is pretend that you are an old-time dude with an old phone. Maybe a hard boiled detective waiting for a call that will crack your current case wide open. Or you know, whatever you choose to do with an old looking phone. The handset will receive and make calls and can recall up to 30 received calls and record up to 50 phone numbers, which are displayed on the LCD screen. It’s compatible with all iPhone models, and can also charge your phone while docked. The iPhone Cordless Handset will cost you $160(USD) from Hammacher Schlemmer.

If you still have a landline – and you happen to live in Japan, then you might like these new minimal and retro-modern looking cordless phones from Pioneer. The TF-FN2000 series goes on sale later this month. You can get them in three different colors – red, black and white. There’s no word yet on pricing, and that doesn’t matter anyway, because you probably don’t have a landline anymore, and you almost certainly don’t live in Japan.

YouTube user Matt ripped the relevant guts off of an old cordless phone and placed them inside a TV remote control. By pressing a button on the assimilated phone’s cradle, the remote control will beep, making it a lot easier to find.

I had no idea you could get custom phones to look like food products, but I’m here to tell you that you can, and they’re… um… unique.

It all started when I saw this phone that looked like a sandwich, or rather, that looked like a phone horribly smooshed into a sandwich. This led me to the Fun Home Products Custom Phone site and let me tell you, they have lot of very bizarre phones. For example, this phone disguised in a fruit basket. Perfect if you happen to be Carmen Miranda.

Maybe you’re just a one-fruit type of guy. In that case, I’m really feeling this pineapple phone. Of course, the cord is kind of ruining it in all cases. Couldn’t they use cordless phones for that true trompe l’oeil fruit-phone illusion?

It should also be noted that if food’s not your thing, you can get such innovative designs as this phone made from a real brick- although, I’m guessing you wouldn’t want to talk too long if you had to hold a brick up to your ear.

See all of the crazy phone choices and commission one of your own designs here.
