It’s always fun to see what sort of quirky tech will come out of the creative minds of Japan’s electronic toy makers. The latest wacky gadget to find its way from Konami’s Party Goods division is the electronic Push-Up Counter.

The device does one thing, and one thing only. It measures how many push-ups you can do. Just position your chin over the big red button, and when it touches, it adds one to your count on its LED readout. The device can count up to 999 consecutive push-ups, which is far more than the 10 or 12 that I could probably muster in a session. I’m not sure what’s with all the alligator imagery on the packaging, since I’ve never seen an alligator do a push-up. Maybe it’s that humans in the push-up position look a bit like the scaly reptilians. Who knows?

Chances are, this oddity will never see the light outside of Japan, but if you do manage to find one, it’ll cost you ¥1764 (about $15 USD).

The TakaraTomy Life Bank One Yen Counter screws on the top of any bottle, and lets you count up your change.

Now keep in mind that a single Japanese Yen coin is worth just a bit less than a penny, so you might not even be able to find a bottle big enough to save up the ¥999 (appx. $8 USD) to pay for the device.
