While I usually think of grannies, lace doilies, and Lladro figurines when I think of cross-stitch art hanging on the wall, even I’d be proud to hang this Space Invaders cross-stitch on my wall. While it doesn’t show the entire playing field, it does give you the important legend listing the scores for all four invader types, but still shines no light on how much you can expect for shooting down their green spaceship.

You know, that spaceship makes me ponder something I never thought of before now: How the hell do invaders fit inside that thing? Maybe they’ve got some sort of shrinker ray? Or are they just really flexible? All I can think of now is is some sort of alien clown car routine now.

But I digress. The Space Invaders sampler measures about 7.8″ (h) x 6″ (w), and was handmade by Knitforvictory, and is available over on Etsy for $25 (USD).

Made by Connect Design, Neostitch cases have patterned weaves in them, just like the aida cloths that are traditionally used in cross-stitching. In fact, that’s exactly what you’re supposed to do with the case – cross-stitch on it. It even comes with a needle and three threads so you can get started right away. There are even sample patterns on its product page so you can start stitching even if you don’t have an idea for a design yet.

You can order the Neostitch from Connect Design’s online shop for only $18 (USD). That’s a low price for what is practically an infinite number of designs. There are only two things that will determine how long you’ll keep using the case – your creativity and the compatibility of the case with the next iPhone model.

Prices vary from $5 for the PDF pattern to create your own up to $50 for the real stitched affairs. I have to say that I really like these and they’d make great decorations and/or mementos for any geek or geekette.

When you first look at this thing from a distance, it doesn’t look like much, but when you realize that it took her over 80,000 cross-stitches to bring this 12″ x 28″ piece to fruition.

A dozen of the original fighters from the classic NES boxer are beautifully detailed with thousands of tiny stitches in place of pixels. It really is a gamer-geek craft masterpiece.

All my faves are there, including Soda Popinski, Mr. Sandman, King Hippo, and of course, Mike Tyson himself.

Technabob fave artist lostmitten has recently broken into the art of needlepoint, hand-stitching pixel-perfect scenes from classic video games like this one from everyone’s favorite dot-gobbler, Pac-Man.

As an added bonus, you can actually lay your grubby little mitts on this for your own room. Of course, that is if you run willy-nilly over to Lostmitten’s Etsy shop and plunk down your $20 bucks before it’s gone.

I’m not sure what’s up with the Philip K. Dick quote on there but I’m sure there’s a good reason for it. Artist Eunice Szpillman was asked to do the artwork for the Spanish video game mag SuperJuegos Xtreme. She documented the process with her iPhone camera.

Me, I always found Arkanoid a little boring. I mean, it’s essentially Pong with a couple more colors and an annoying high-pitched song. If you’re feeling pangs of rose-colored nostalgia about it, play a round or two and I bet you’ll agree with me.

But that’s exactly what craftster contributor benjibot decided to do with this wacky sad iPod cross-stitch. Apparently, benjibot’s 4G iPod finally kicked the bucket a few days back, and served as inspiration for his design.

I guess you could think of the cloth like a mini-memorial to the deceased media player, to be laid over a tiny cardboard casket before it’s lowered into its final resting place in the dumpster.
