Sure, we have every version of Monopoly that we could want right? Well, maybe now we do thanks to The Doom That Came To Atlantic City. It isn’t really a new version of Monopoly, but it just sort of spoofs it, with a bit of an Arkham Horror theme. Take Monopoly and throw in some Lovecraftian monsters and you have horror in New Jersey.

The game comes from artist Lee Moyer, designer Keith Baker, and sculptor Paul Komoda. The playing pieces look fantastic, Paul. They should since this game has been a work-in-progress for nearly 20 years. Now it is finally going to get real because their Kickstarter campaign was a success. (Though you still have about 2 weeks to get in on the action.)

This looks much better than all of those other lame Monopoly clones. Hopefully it will have been worth the wait. Supposedly it plays like a combination of Arkham Horror, with play elements of Munchkin thrown in.

I know, I know the pun doesn’t make sense, but so does Cthulhu. And that’s the theme of this product so I was actually being clever. I just didn’t realize I was being clever that way. And that’s one of the reasons why the folks at Toy Vault are cleverer. The other reason being their indoctrination of crowd funders to back their Cthulhu Knitted Ski Mask.

The Cthulhu Knitted Ski Mask is just like the Cthulhu knit ski hat, except it has one hell of a unibrow and more upper case letters in its name.

Bravo sir. Bravo. I bet half of the backers pledged just because of that superb pitch. Come brethren, summon your browsers and head to Kickstarter. A sacrifice of at least $20 (USD) gets you a Cthulhu Knitted Ski Mask. May your fellow skiers or robbers have mercy on your soul.

If you’re going to really rock out with an electric guitar, you deserve to look like a bad-ass, right. Well, behold the bad-assiest guitar out there – formed in the image of the mighty Cthulhu!

This killer axe was made by Ikon Customs using birdseye maple, an appropriately evil pincher claw headstock, and has a purpleheart fretboard with glow-in-the-dark dots. I bet that’s exactly what Cthulhu’s heart looks like – purple with glowing dots. At least that’s what I like to imagine. Of course there’s the monstrous green body in the image of Cthulhu himself – complete with beady red eyes. Here’s another one they built, with a slimy looking yellow and green neck – which also seems appropriate.

You can order your own custom Cthulhu guitar for $699 to $1199 (USD), depending on the guitar model and features you select. Cthulhu himself orders you to buy one or he will make you suffer an eternity of madness.

I can only imagine that the malevolent octopus-dragon-beast is sitting at the top, staring down at humanity while crushing the life out of the poor pine tree and forcing its needles to the floor – all the while, throwing all who look at it into a state of madness as they sip their hot cocoa, and unwrap their prezzies.

How about a calendar app, that will deliver complete insanity directly to your mobile device? It sounds like some Cthulhu cultists have embraced new technology in order to make more people insane during this holiday season. I’m all for this, as people are already loony this time of year.

Red Wasp Design’s app features an original Cthulhu image that can be opened each day. You’ll find Cthulhu having lots of fun with Santa Claus, mistletoes, and Christmas trees. These fun images have been merged, mixed, mutated and mashed up with other, darker figures from the Cthulhu Mythos.

You’ll also get to answer a Cthulhu-related question each and every day. The tally will be revealed on the 25th, and it will give you your Mythos rating. It’s available at the iTunes App store for iPhone and iPod ($0.99), for iPad ($1.99) and in the Android Market ($1.09).

In the case of the latter I suggest you don’t bother wrapping it – leave it open and make it so it’ll be the first thing they see when they wake up. On second thought I think Cthulhu fans would love that presentation too.

The calendar was made by David Clayton James Gassaway aka daupo. Each month features a photograph of a polymer clay sculpture finished hand-tinted with ink, also made by daupo. The sculptures all allude to tales and figures from the horrific universe.

The Cthulhu is one of the creepiest and freakiest fictional <del>monster abomination</del> horror entities in existence, but the people behind the Cthulhu Weenie Roaster seem to think that it’s something you’d like to look at while roasting your weenies. (Of course I mean actual sausages here, made from ground up pork and beef and all that. Not… um, you know… the other weenies.)

They might look creepy, but I can think of one way they can work to your advantage: they can freak any person who’s out to steal your sausages. And never mind the kids, who never seem to be able to wait their turn. Well, now they’ll be forced to, or they’ll have to endure the wrath of the Cthulhu (as well as a good, old spanking care of their mothers.)

The stainless steel Cthulhu Weenie Roaster is available from Roast My Weenie (aptly named store, don’t you think?) for $35 (USD).

Anyone who’s a fan of the Cthulhu Mythos and HP Lovecraft will enjoy putting this Peeping Cthulhu Suction Cup Plush in the back window of their car. It’s the combination of things, the cuteness of the plush toy, the fact that Cthulhu was never meant to be cute, and the fact that most people driving behind you will have no idea what the hell it is that makes this one a winner.

Yes, we all know that Cthulhu is watching us, but this peeping Cthulhu will allow you to scare anyone who’s looking at your windows. Maybe “scare” isn’t the right word. Maybe “perplex” would be better. This 7″ suction-cup plush will undoubtedly produce more smiles or looks of confusion than scares.

This cute Cthulhu is available for pre-order for $12.99 (USD) at EntertainmentEarth. If that’s not enough, check out this plush toy for your little ones, perfect to school them from a young age into the lore of the Old Ones.

It was knit by CraftyPA, and she’s also made one in red, in case the traditional green Cthulhu isn’t for you. For some reason, the red version looks more like Dr. Zoidberg than Cthulhu to me, though. I always wanted to go as Zoidberg for Halloween, so maybe I’ll get that one for my costume for next year. I’ll just need some lobster claws to go with it.

In fact, don’t think about or say his name aloud too much either. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

While the cultists are busy praying to the great Cthulhu, others are creating whimsical illustrations about it. Heck, I was even surprised to see Cthulhu in episodes of South Park recently. This particular image was created by Robin Levy and is available as a print on canvas ($85) or a t-shirt ($24), and shows Cthulhu handing out presents (or is he keeping them away from?) to his followers.

I kind of miss Call of Cthulhu (the table top RPG). That was a funny game, especially when you character went insane.

This crazy looking 200-pound cake looks like an octopus. While I rarely eat any cakes, this gigantic one made me smile, and mutter a prayer to the almighty Cthulhu!

Karen Portaleo from Highland Bakery is behind this mammoth cephalopod. I’ve actually rarely seen cakes this big and elaborate in person. But despite it’s artistry, those tentacles and suction cups make me not want to eat it at all.

The full gallery of this cake is available here with other cool cakes. It was made for the Georgia Aquarium, so I guess that it’s relevant. There’s a definite creepy quality to this cake, so I wonder if Karen was thinking of Cthulhu while she was making it, or maybe just Zoidberg.

While I don’t think that it’s a good idea of making fun of Cthulhu, it’s certainly something cute to give any HP Lovecraft fan.

If you’ve ever played any table top RPGs, you’ve probably heard of the Cthulhu Mythos. It was one of the first systems that made it fun to go just plain bonkers. The trick of the game was to just remain sane enough to play.

That being said, these plush Cthulhu shouldn’t make you go crazy, but they’ll sure remind you of Lovecraft’s disturbed universe, wherever you put them. A bunch of different cute and cuddly Cthulhu accessories are available over at Entertainment Earth.

In the words of its creator, the Cthulhu Mythos Chess Set “feature indescribable forces of madness and the grotesque,” and “will strain the sanity of the stoutest soul.” I’m just trying to figure out which piece is what. They all look like hardened snot to me. But that’s probably because my mind cannot comprehend the awesomeness of these entities.

Each chess piece was made by hand without using any mold, ensuring the uniqueness of the set. For the black pieces, Cthulhu is the king of course, and Dagon is the queen. The green pieces have Yog-Sothoth as king and Ubbo-Sathla as queen. Not that I would recognize any of them if they were eating my organs. As for the other pieces, “the bishops of each side are mad alien priests, the knights grotesque mounts with vile curved spines, the rooks writhe horribly within their blasted towers. The black pawns are sinister, writhing spawn of dread Cthulhu, and the green pawns mocking little tentacular skulls.” Topnotch writing, I tell you.

Craftster FicklePegasus has turned an office joke into a handmade gift fit for only the coolest of babies: a soft and cuddly Cthulhu, complete with tentacular arms of love that can hold toys to engage tykes. The intended baby hasn’t even arrived yet and already he has cooler stuff than I do.

FicklePegasus looked at existing Cthulhu crafts and drew inspiration from several patterns for the final product. Here’s guessing it’ll be the most unique gift that kid receives over the next ten years. It’s all downhill from here, kiddo.

Crafter/felt baker/goth pastry master ckrolczyk probably got tired of seeing lookalike gingerbread men and set out to redeem the great Gingerbread name with these wacky, felt gingerbread…beings. I would expect no less from someone with a username like ckrolczyk. First up, Gingerbread Cthulhu:

And then we have Gingerbread Zombie:

Gingerbread Zombie reminds me of me. Finally we have Gingerbread Mutant/Monster:

Ckrolczyk may have pwned a lot of bakers & crafters with these designs, but you’ll never see me put anything resembling Cthulhu anywhere near my mouth. There is no way in hell. Unless it’s Gummi Cthulhu.

There hath he lain for ages and lay battening upon huge sea-worms in his sleep, until Ravelry member Carly Zimmerman created a pattern and shared it for all to knit and see; then once again by man and angels he shall be seen, in roaring he shall rise and on the surface die. Because if you’re not a Ravelry member the link will do you no good; it requires members to login before you can download the pattern. Maybe when the stars are right.
