If you’re a fan of classic Nintendo video game systems, then you’ll definitely want to check out these comfy looking plush cushions done up to look like these bits of gaming nostalgia.

Artist Lucy Sparrow of Felt Sew Good makes several cushions based on old Nintendo systems. For starters, theres a shiny Famicom controller, which looks like it would make a nice pillow behind your neck during long gaming sessions.

There’s also a Game Boy cushion as well as a Super Nintendo console along with a matching controller. What I love about these is that they’re not just tiny pillows – each one is quite substantial.

While those are all awesome, my favorite has to be the one based on the all-time classic controller from the original Nintendo Entertainment System.

Each cushion sells for £37 (~$59 USD) plus £7.50 (~$12 USD) for shipping to the U.S., and can be ordered over at Felt Sew Good’s online shop, where you can also find Lucy’s cool ZX Spectrum and Speak and Spell cushions. Cat ears not included.

I tried lying down on the concrete road once for a school project, and let me just say that my back was sore for close to a week afterwards. Obviously concrete isn’t made for comfort; it’s made to be strong and hard and long-lasting so we don’t end up with horribly cracked roads and structures.

With the exception of these Concrete Cushions by Torafu Architects, that is. These cushions are part of the design studio’s “Soft Block” series that offers a solution for modular, re-arrangable furniture.

Each of the faux concrete blocks feature varying and diverse designs that come together wonderfully when they’re stacked or placed side-by-side. Make a chair, put together a sofa, or lay everything down flat on the floor to come up with a mattress.

The cushions are extra cushy and comfortable since they use cushy, but supportive Fine Revo foam material by Asleep.

Now I’d lie down any day on this kind of concrete.

If you’re like me, you’ve gotten in the habit of taking your iPad to bed, and using it to read, surf the web and play games. One of the most annoying things about the iPad in bed is trying to use it while you’re lying down. I’ve tried propping my iPad 2 up on a pillow, and on its Smart Cover, but it inevitably falls over or has me craning my neck at a weird angle. So if you’re looking for a solution for using your iPad 2 in bed (or on any other uneven surface), you might want to check out the Cushpad.

The Cushpad provides a soft and squishy resting place for your iPad 2, whether in bed, on your lap while on the couch, or on a table. It’s a simple idea – a trapezoidal pillow, covered with a satiny fabric, and a couple of small pillow-like grips to hold the iPad in place. Just slide your iPad into the soft ledges of the Cushpad, and it holds it nicely in place. It works in both landscape or portrait orientations, and smartly offers two different angles for horizontal usage. There’s also a handle on the back for easily carrying it around, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that with the iPad in place.

I recently got a chance to try a Cushpad with my iPad 2, and it really is helpful for viewing movies and playing games while lying in bed and hanging out on the sofa. I could also see it coming in handy on your lap while on an airplane or long train or bus trip. About the only thing I didn’t care for was that you really need to remove the Smart Cover in order for it to hold your iPad – although for quick usage, I figured out that you can set the iPad into the bottom ledge and flip the Smart Cover over the top of the Cushpad too. It’s just not as solid and stable as if you remove the cover and use both ledges. Still, it’s a minor complaint about an otherwise very handy little invention.

The Cushpad is available in green, blue, red, grey or black fabric, and the cover comes off for easy washing too. It sells for $34.99 (USD), but they’re offering an extra $5 discount if you “like” them over on Facebook first.

Sometimes I really hate how Nintendo treats us Americans. The Japanese Club Nintendo gets all manner of cooler items compared to what we get. It’s not fair, and yes I’m whining. Why? Because I can’t get my hands on this Dot Mario Cushion.

This 8-bit Super Mario cushion is awesome and I need one (now that I’ve seen it.) It’s for Japanese Club Nintendo members only though. So this is yet another sweet piece of Nintendo swag that we can’t touch. Other rewards include a Nintendo 2012 desk calendar and five video game soundtracks (Tomodachi Collection, Pilotwings Resort, Star Fox 64 3D, Wii Fit Plus, and Mario Kart Wii). The Mario cushion can be yours for 400 points.

Stupid Nintendo. Now excuse me while I go sulk and look at my Nintendo items and grumble.

Earos Cushion Concept Should be the Scarlet Letter for Annoying People Who Talk on the Phone Too Much

I know I am not the only one that seems to constantly find themselves behind some asshat more intent on talking on their phone than driving, walking, or doing whatever it is I am trying to do. We all know these people, the ones in the checkout line oblivious to the fact that the person in front of them has only one item left to scan before they leave and they haven’t even started pulling their stuff out of the buggy. Even more irritating is the person who won’t pull up far enough for me to order my food at the drive through because that extra two feet of distance moved might drop their call.

The Earos cushion concept at first was something I laughed at and figured we could just point and mock anyone who might use the real thing. Then I thought about it and decided that this massive ear cushion would be the perfect way to shame these constant phone talkers into using their phone less. I think of it like a scarlet letter, only not red and not a letter, but you get the idea.

The idea behind the concept is that people who talk a lot on their phones would use the thing to cushion their ear and make the ear cooler. Earos also reckons it will prevent some scratches.

If you are on the phone so much that your ear sweats, you need an intervention.

You can choose to sit on a brown bear or a pink sheep, both shaped like a flower for some reason. The cord is pretty long at around 3.6′, long enough to plug into your desktop or laptop without hitting any snags.

Since it’s powered via a USB port, you can take it around with your laptop to create that perfect mobile workstation.

This USB seat cushion is available from Gadget4all for $19.90. I wouldn’t mind one right now, as my chair isn’t that warm.

I just love the look of these luscious retro-modern headphones. Named for the rotational speed of classic vinyl records, these Eskuché 33 and 1/3 headphones should be great for listening to any music, whether recorded on a vinyl platter or in the digital ether.

Each pair is loaded up with LR Soundsystems’ drivers rated at 20Hz to 20KHz frequency range and 112 dB sensitivity. The phones are enshrouded in a shiny metallic skin, and feature comfy padded ear cups attached to a comfy adjustable headband. And from the user reviews I’ve read, they don’t just look good, they sound great too. Best of all, they throw in two cords, one of them with an inline microphone and answer button so you can use ‘em with your iPhone too. Sweet. I’m so getting me a pair to replace my earbuds.

If I ever have kids, I’ll be sure to pass on to them everything that I know about anything. Like the joys of reading, or the merits of moderation. And thanks to all of the fascinating things I’ve read about since I started writing here, if someday my kids come to me and ask, “Dad, where can I find some of the strangest shit in the world?” I can confidently say, “Brando.”

Behold the “Fading Out LED Soft Cushion”! It comes in two variants, Pyschedelic Milk Cow – perfect for inducing seizures – and Little Satanist Red Bull – perfect for, well, little Satanists.

The Fading Out LED Soft Cushions are not just for kids; they’re perfect for adults too! Buy them for your adult enemies, and they’ll surely hate you more.

Of course you can just take out the 3 AA batteries and let the cushions be normal cushions, but then that would make the thing normal. And if there’s a forbidden word at Brando’s, it’s “normal”.

You can get one of these weird LED cushions – I won’t bother asking why – at Brando for $22 (USD).

This new modular furniture system lets you create custom seating areas by rearranging pixel-like blocks into your own unique layouts.

Created by Joe Doucet, founder of the new design collective Bond., the Scape Modular Seating system lets you transform your living space on a whim, thanks to its moveable seating towers.

Individual seating cushion blocks come in five different heights, and varying shades of gray to create an illusion not dissimilar from a topographic map. To rearrange your space, simple slide the different height cushions into the system’s gridded base, and you can completely change the look and layout of your couch in seconds.

The Scape Modular Seating System will be just one of the multi-disciplined collective’s works shown at the Bond. launch party at New York’s Pomegranate Gallery on May 17th, 2008. Check out the Bond.NY website for more details.

Who says arcade cabinets need to be made out of wood and metal? Why can’t they be soft and squishy? That’s what this crafter thought when she created this fun plush Pac-Man machine.

Created by Lady Harvatine, the stuffed arcade machine captures the spirit of some of my fondest arcade memories. Inspired by these most excellent papercraft arcade creations, she set off to create her own unique spin on the arcade classic. The centerpiece of the squishy system has to be the piece of retro Pac-Man fabric that a friend of hers scrounged up for the screen.

Affectionately known as “Pac-y”, the plush arcade machine has a stuffed joystick and two coin slots that actually will eat your coins (there’s a zipper in the back that lets you retrieve your money).

The machine is the first of the Lady’s “Harvacade” collection. I’m hoping for some Donkey Kong or Dig Dug next.
