Iron Man Scooter: Not Quite a Transformer

It’s always good to have a backup plan. Take Iron Man for instance. What if your rockets should be in the shop or run out of fuel and the Stark limo is not available? Well, you had better have a second mode of transport. Like this Iron Man scooter.

It’s not exactly powerful enough for serious crime fighting, but it could probably be used for superhero parades and the like. The good part is that your armor melds in perfectly with the bike. I keep expecting it to transform into a second skin of armor and take to the skies.

Anyway, it’s another fine product from Stark Enterprises. I only have one question. Where does the arc reactor go? In the seat, maybe?

LEGO Batman X-Wing Fighter: The Dark Night Meets the Light Side of the Force

Have you ever wondered what it might look like if Batman piloted an X-Wing and destroyed the Death Star? Sure, we all have. I imagine it would look something like this.

This custom x-wing fighter/batjet was created by LEGO mastermind Kevin Ryhal (aka M<0><0>DSWIM). Now I can only imagine what the Joker’s TIE Fighter might look like. As you might imagine, Batman’s story has changed just a little bit. “After Bruce Skywalker’s aunt and uncle are killed by the evil Darth Joker, he learns the ways of the Force and becomes the Bat Knight, vowing to fight crime across the galaxy and defeat the evil Empire!”

That is a pretty sweet LEGO ride. I think the Astromech should have been done up in Robin’s colors though. Great custom ship!

Pokemon Onesies are not unheard of – I’ve seen them on plenty of infants. But, my friends, a revolution has come. This revolution is called Pokemon Onesies for adults, and it is here to stay. At least until society judges you, but then you can just move to Japan, where you would be welcomed as a GENIUS! To be quite honest, I would like nothing more than to buy one of these and run around tackling a few of my good buddies. Also, people I don’t know, because that would be more fun. I take one down with my body, and while diving in the air get two pedestrians with my wings of fury. Then, I’ll just use an escape rope to get away from the angry security guards. Custom Draco Electric Guitar Will Turn You into Ozzy Dragonborn

Here’s a guitar fit for some heavy metal rocking all night long in Skyrim. This chrome metallic dragon ‘Draco’ guitar comes from Emerald Guitars and it is awesome looking. It’s also fully functional.

This custom guitar was hand-sculpted in Thailand. Not only does it look amazing and actually play, but the eyes are LED and light up with a blue glow. Another little dragon sits on the headstock. The detail on both monsters is very impressive.

Emerald Guitars made this beast in 2009 for a customer that wanted something very special. It think he got his money’s worth, don’t you? I don’t know about the owner, but I would be too afraid to play this thing because I wouldn’t want to put a single scratch on it. I certainly wouldn’t be “dragon” this thing from gig to gig.

Custom Fallout Vault Dweller Sneakers Have a Pip-Boy in Each Tongue

You need an accessory if you are going to wear your Pip-Boy 3000 and I can’t think of anything better than these sneakers. Whether you are traveling to New Vegas or just one of the many vaults, they should get you across the American wastelands safely and still have some nice tread on them. These are a one-of-a-kind custom job by shoe-artists Jacob Patterson and Emmanuelabor. They are more than just sneakers, they each have a jailbroken iPod Touch in place of the tongues, with a Pip-Boy theme of course, that feature sounds, themes, apps, music, and other Fallout goodies.

On the sides there’s a soldier in Power Armor from Fallout 3 and a Ranger from New Vegas.

These sneakers are way too awesome to wear, but I would wear them anyway just to see the look on peoples faces.

Custom Chrome Mechagodzilla Lamp with Assault Rifles: Get in My House

Check out this amazingly awesome custom Mechagodzilla lamp complete with assault rifles. He reminds you to turn your light off when you leave the room. Or else.

This badass lamp gives Mechagodzilla wings, twin G36C rifles and a whole lot of attitude. The wings come from an old toy that Obvious Winner found at a local comic book shop for a $1. They were promptly snapped off and surgically attached to Mechagodzilla using a drill and epoxy.

After that it was time to arm this beast with some weaponry. The choice? 1:6 scale G36 assault rifles that are nicely detailed. You can even fold the stock and remove the magazine and the bullets inside. Those are some nice guns. I wish I had a lamp this cool myself. Great job. I hope we see a Mothra lamp next.

Microsoft Project Detroit Mustang: If TRON Drove a Pony Car

When Microsoft decides to do a custom car, you can bet it’s going to be packed with all sorts of technology. Microsoft teamed up with custom car modders West Coast Customs on the design and dubbed the car Project Detroit. If you can believe it, this Mustang started life as a 2012, but was fitted with a sexy 1967 fastback body.

The car also has blue lights all over the place; it rather reminds me of TRON. Inside the car, it has a custom digital dash gauge cluster that allows the driver to see exactly what they want.

It also has Microsoft Xbox 360 with Kinect (built into one of the tail lights,) web connectivity, and many of the systems can be remote controlled using a Windows Phone smartphone with a custom app. The car also has digital cameras all around line people inside to see what’s going on around the vehicle when parked.

The rear window even can flip up and act as a projection screen for playing the car’s Xbox 360 or watching movies.

If you want to know more about this build, it will be featured on an episode of Inside West Coast Customs this Sunday at 9 PM Eastern. Microsoft hopes that the high-tech car will lure in more developers to build custom apps and hardware for vehicles. It’s an awesome car anyway, you cut it.

Darth Knight Custom Action Figure Fights for Good and Evil

This is the crossover that I had no idea that I wanted. Darth Vader and Batman. Inspired by Malmey Studios’ awesome Darth Knight costume that was going around last year, custom modeler John Harmon is responsible for this action figure mashup of Gotham’s guardian and the Dark Lord of the Sith.
According to John, his Darth Knight figure uses the body from a Dark Knight Movie Masters Batman figure, and the head, lightsaber, chest plate, and other pieces from a Star Wars Transformers Darth Vader action figure. After that he took the ears from the Batman head and grafted them onto the Vader head, and sculpted over them to blend them in with the sculpt of Vader’s helmet. The paint job, with silver accents, really completes the whole piece.

The question is, is he a good guy or a bad guy now? It doesn’t matter. This figure is completely awesome. I want to see Darth Knight in his own movie now.

Indiana Jones Custom Engagement Ring: Throw Me the Ring, I’ll Throw You the Idol

How do you propose to a hardcore Indiana Jones fan? You can always do what Homerliwag over on Reddit did. He presented this super cool wedding ring when he proposed to his Indiana Jones-obsessed fiance.

Even his proposal was Indy themed. With no ring, he gave her a bag of sand. Doesn’t sound very romantic, but in the Indy context, it works. He presented her with a ring box and when she opened it, it was just a bag of sand! He said that Indy must have swooped in and stolen the treasure. Very slick way to buy some time.

So he designed a neat bullwhip ring and found a custom jeweler in Las Vegas to make the ring shown above. The yellow diamond represents “The Idol”. Hopefully the relationship works out and she doesn’t rip his heart out like Molar Ram does in Temple of Doom.

I’m interested to see what they do for the actual wedding now.

The Aerodyne PC: Is Art Deco is the New Steampunk?

This mini PC is called The Aerodyne, and it’s supposed to evoke the look of classic streamline trains and skyscrapers like The Chrysler Building. For what it’s worth, the Aerodyne definitely looks more attractive than the typical plastic or metal computer cases we see these days.

The Art Deco influenced Aerodyne was created by Jeffrey Stephenson. The system is built around a Mini-ITX form factor PC, so its footprint is pretty small. The mini PC doesn’t have a fan to keep things compact, and is made out of mahogany and aluminum. Inside, it has an Intel Core i3 processor, an integrated Intel HD3000 graphics processor, a 256GB Crucial M4 SSD hard drive, and 8GB Crucial DDR 3 RAM. While those aren’t top-of-the-line specs, they’re still pretty solid for a compact machine like this.

Make Your Own View-Master Reels with Image3D

I remember the old View-Master viewer and reels from when I was a kid. Most people have probably used a View-Master 3D viewer at some point in their childhood. The images were fun. But what if you want to make your own custom picture reels?

What may have seemed impossible years ago, is now easy. Just head over to Image3D and you can create your own View-Master photo reels. Just create an account, upload some pictures, and place your order. You can even add text and do some basic image manipulation.

If you want 3D images, those can be ordered up too, as long as the pictures you took were in 3D and you use their “stereo” website to order, otherwise, you’re missing out on the best part. A custom reel will cost you $22 (USD), with additional copies costing less. You can also buy a bundle, which gets you a View-Master and a gift box for $25. It makes an awesome gift for any occasion.

MorbidStix Xbox 360 Controller: Steampunk? More Like Keypunk

And I thought I’d seen the best steampunk video game controller. This thing of beauty is the work of Minister Morbid of the custom controller maker MorbidStix. It has a (faux) antique burl wood finish, copper rivet embellishments and real leather grips. It’s a controller for your alternate universe great-great-great-grandparents.

The controller is also equipped with custom sticks and face buttons, but the real star here is the lock and key mechanism installed in place of the Xbox 360 button. You actually have to insert the skeleton key and turn it to power on the controller and access the Xbox 360 menu. So if you lose the key, tough luck. Quite impractical, but you can’t argue with the concept. Actually you can. A steam-powered button would’ve been more consistent.

But the biggest drawback of this controller isn’t the lack of any steam-related function or decoration. It’s the price: a smoking $999.99 (USD) for just this one controller. Wow. If you think it’s worth it, you better head to eBay and cop it now because MorbidStix only has one unit for sale, and they say that they won’t be able to make another one due to a lack of parts. If you don’t think this design is awesome, MorbidStix has more custom controllers on their website (for a lot less money), including ones for the PS3 and Wii. Also you’re wrong.

Steampunk Dice: for a League of Extraordinary Gamblers

Etsy sellers Stefan, Barak, Doug and Erin – collectively known as Mechanical Oddities – have the perfect dice for fans of steampunk tabletop games. Or steampunk. Or games. Or gambling. The point is they make beautiful six-sided dice with a steampunk design.

Originally modeled and designed on a computer, each die is 3D printed and then meticulously hand painted to create that worn out, aged, steamy, punky, steampunk look. It’s available in iron and bronze finish and uses cogs instead of pips. Because it would be hard to represent numbers with steam. What would 6 steams even look like? That’d just be 6 water molecules.

Steampunk Fight Stick: Victorian Virtual Vanquisher

Yesterday we saw a peculiar but seemingly practical arcade controller, fit to be added to the video game controller evolutionary tree. This fight stick by London-based custom controller maker Sam Kurd aka B15SDM Designs isn’t as innovative, but damn it looks absolutely beautiful. It will probably make you lose more because you’ll be so engrossed at its design and details that you’ll forget you’re playing a game.

Unfortunately we don’t have a lot of details regarding the construction and materials used in the controller, but we do know that it’s partly made of Plexiglas, and that the buttons each have a white LED that lights up when the buttons are pressed. There is also a blue-green LED light at the bottom of the case, which you can see in the last picture in the gallery below.

I don’t know the exact price that Kurd charged for this particular controller, but his typical rates go from £250 (~$395 USD) to £450 (~ $710 USD). If you’re into arcade controllers you really should check out his website and his Joystick Vault gallery for more awesome custom controllers.

Hit Box Arcade Controller: Joybuttons

One of the reasons why many gamers who play fighting games on consoles prefer arcade-style controllers over the default Xbox 360 or PS3 gamepad is the large joystick.

But a new peripheral maker is going the opposite way, making an arcade panel that’s all buttons. It’s actually not as stupid as it sounds, because computer keyboard.

The company is called Hit Box, LLC. Their product? The Hit Box. No LLC. The three buttons in an arc plus the lower big button substitutes for the joystick. So why would you want to push more buttons instead of wiggling a joystick?

Well, for one, the fact that each button has a dedicated function (e.g. one for up, one for down etc.) means that they’re more precise than a joystick, which is responsible for several commands. This leads to faster input and fewer mistakes. Theoretically of course – I’d probably have to stare at the Hit Box for four days straight before I figure out how to work it. Speaking of working it, here’s a demo of the Hit Box used for Mortal Kombat:

The $160(USD) controller is made of a 16″ x 7″ x 2″ metal case with Plexiglas cover, with 11 24mm and one 30mm Sanwa push buttons. Apparently the demand for the Hit Box is so high that you’ll have to sign up for a waiting list to get one. Hit Box controllers for the Xbox 360 are not available for ~~order~~ ~~pre-order~~ wait listing yet, so you can only ask for the PS3 or PC compatible versions. Brick-Built Nameplates: Assemble Your Name with LEGOs

Nameplates are meant to convey that someone is important enough to warrant a nameplate. But if you’d rather be known for being whimsical or creative, or if you just want to celebrate and flaunt your love of LEGO to the world, then ditch the wood and brass and go for a Brick-Built Nameplate.

As you can see, the nameplate is completely made of LEGO bricks. To order, go to their website, enter what you want to appear on the nameplate and then choose a color scheme. You’ll be sent all of the necessary LEGO parts along with a CD containing build instructions. Yep – you have to assemble the nameplate yourself. Because putting it together is part of the fun!

Each nameplate costs about $20 (USD) plus $10 per character, spaces included. Yeah, kinda expensive, but then again it is quite unique. Plus founder Eli Carter himself wrote the software that creates the model and instructions. I think a more legitimate complaint would be the lack of more… attractive color schemes. Custom Batman: Arkham City Xbox 360 Slim

I can not wait until the next Batman movie. At least we have Arkham City to tide us over until 2012, when we can finally see The Dark Knight Rises. As an added treat we also now have this custom Arkham City Xbox 360 console to drool over.

The artwork on this one is awesome. Batman isn’t fooling around. In fact, he looks downright pissed off. The front side shows the game’s logo. On the opposite side, the Joker can be seen looking downright evil. Not that we’ve ever seen him look like anything else.

Nintendo Themed Boardwalk Cabinets: Let Wario Tell Your Fortune

We’ve seen plenty of Kody Koala’s work in the past and it never disappointments. These Custom Gaming Themed Boardwalk Cabinets however, are a whole new level of awesome.

I can only hope that we see more Nintendo characters in these cabinets. For those who may not know, in the old days cabinets like these would line the boardwalk. Some were medical quackery, claiming to heal by zapping you with a jolt of electricity, others were similar to the fortune telling machines you’ve seen elsewhere.

The Elecman (From Mega Man) cabinet was created using a Boardwalk bank from Toys r Us. That one vibrates and has LEDs, but won’t shock you. Although these look full sized, this one is just 9-10 inches tall.

The Mario Ironclaw game features all kinds of cool toys inside and was made the same way. The coolest of the trio is the Wario cabinet. Just ask him for your fortune. Your fortune is simple by the way, Wario says that he is going to win.

R2-D2 Sweater: The Threads You Are Looking for

This must be the best R2-D2 sweater I’ve ever seen. (Or is it the only R2-D2 sweater I’ve ever seen?) It also helps that it’s handcrafted to your personal measurements and requirements, to ensure that it fits perfectly.

This droid sweater by EricaKnit costs $450 because it’s awesome and custom handmade out of merino wool. The likeness to R2-D2 is pretty obvious to anyone who sees it.

You can order yours over at Erica’s Etsy store. It takes Erica about 4 to 6 weeks to knit your sweater, so you better order them fast if you want one any time soon. The sweater is fitted and somewhat stretchy, so it requires customization, which is why it takes so long to get it just right.
