Perfect for your neighborhood geek bar, which I’m sure would also serve up some ice cream sandwiches just to keep with the theme. This guy created the robot because he was bored with regular beer. Not anymore. The Kegdroid makes it fun again.

Just use your NFC badge on the card reader, which is attached to an Arduino and this little guy will reward you with beer. It’s pretty awesome, and I wish I had thought of that. You can check out the Kegdroid in action over on YouTube.

Automated cargo vessels head to the ISS regularly to take astronauts new supplies and pick up trash. At times, these cargo ships also return experiments back to Earth. Leave it to the Scottish to send an experiment to the ISS involving whiskey. A few months back, Ardbeg Distillery sent some vials of key ingredients to the ISS aboard a Russian Soyuz rocket.

The vials contained unmatured malt ingredients and some particles of charred oak. I’m not a big drinker, but I would assume those are two key components for making things like scotch. Researchers at the distillery plan to leave the stuff in orbit for two years. During that time the ISS crew won’t touch the vials, they will simply sit there.

When the vials come back from orbit, the researchers at the distillery intend to do experiments to see if zero gravity had any effect on terpenes in the ingredients. Terpenes are chemicals that play a role in giving whiskey its flavor and aroma. I wouldn’t doubt that we’ll end up seeing a special very limited-edition space Scotch whiskey at some point.

I first heard of Manolo Blahnik and Manhattans from the hit show Sex and the City. In fact, one of the reasons why I’m so into shoes (but not so much into alcohol) is because of that show, which I love but which my bank account hates.

Manhattans were also one of the first cocktails I ever tasted, alongside Cosmopolitans and Martinis. I prefer non-alcoholic drinks these days for many reasons, but Manhattans will also have a special place in my heart. And now you can even cordon off a small area in your home for them, too, in the form of these clever Manhattan Stools.

These Manhattan Stools are great for use in both indoor and outdoor locations. The most obvious location to place them are near the bar, of course. These chairs feature a steel structure with a polyurethane seat, and were designed by Itamar Harari for Italy’s B-Line.

You might want to drop B-Line an email if you want pricing and purchase information for these stools.

8-Bit Pale Ale is a quick power-up to cure your sobriety. Drink enough of it and you will see Yoshi everywhere, Space Invaders will fill your night sky and you might even see a Centipede slither down your wall as you pew pew it to no avail. But does it taste like magic mushrooms or power pills? Here’s how Tallgrass describes this brew:

Our Hop Rocket infuses the character of Australian grown Galaxy Hops into an American Pale Ale, giving a unique tropical, almost melon aroma in a classic American style.

Forget how this brew tastes. I just love the graphics on the can. I would buy this just to look at it on a shelf and set it alongside some NES cartridges.

Yep, what you’re looking at here is an R2-D2 can cooler.

Made by Ikon Collectibles, this officially licensed, insulated R2 can cooler is perfect for keeping your soda and beer feeling like it’s still on Hoth, even if you’re stuck in the deserts of Tatooine.

At this point, it looks like the R2-D2 can cooler is selling only in Australia and New Zealand, but you might be able to pick up a wholesale lot from Ikon if you’re into that sort of thing.

R2 arrives June 2012, just in time for those warm Summer days up here in the Northern hemisphere (of course it’s winter in Australia, so go figure.)

When you have a pizza party, you might like to whip out your Starship Enterprise pizza wheel, but when you want to serve some cold brew along with, you need a cool bottle opener too. Han and Chewie recommend the Millenium Falcon for opening bottles at light speed.

This Millenium Falcon bottle opener is just the right thing for popping open your bottles, and for evading stormtroopers and TIE fighters while you’re at it. If blue milk came in bottles, this would definitely be the right thing to open it with – but it’ll have to do for beer and soda bottles for now. It even has a magnet on the bottom of it so you can stick it to the side of your fridge the same way Han landed it on the side of that Star Destroyer.

If you prefer to carry a weapon instead of a spacecraft, you can always go with this Lightsaber bottle opener. If one was good enough for Anakin to open up some younglings with, it’s good enough for your Bud Light. Though this one is based on Luke’s saber, not Anakin’s though.

On the plus side, it actually makes that lightsaber “swooooosh!!” startup sound when you pop the top. See?..

Both the Millenium Falcon and the Lightsaber bottle openers are available for pre-order over at Forbidden Planet now for £11.99 (~$19 USD), and they ship this Summer.

That’s exactly what designers Julie Aniela and Jak Hornblow thought when they designed this concept packaging for Chaos Emerald Energy Drink.

But they went one step further than just designing some cans, they came up with four different flavors – lemon, blue raspberry, fruit punch and green apple – to go with the four colors of Chaos Emeralds. The gold ring around the top of the cans is a nice touch, too.

They even went so far to create a nice box for the set of four cans, along with one of those Sonic 1up icons on one side and a 10-ring prize on the other. Unfortunately, this isn’t for a real product. The packaging was designed for a photo shoot to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Sonic, back in 2011.

Even Doctor Robotnik would approve of these; though they certainly won’t help him with his figure. Now all they need to do is get someone to actually make these energy drinks, and we’ll be all set. Maybe they can convince Sonic Drive-In restaurants to bring them to market. I always thought they needed to do some sort of tie-in.

You know what they say about wine: the older it is, the better it gets. But what about wine that was literally fermented with the usual stuff and with something that’s extremely old? Like roughly around 4.5 billion years old?

Apparently, not so bad. But you might have to try it out yourself by grabbing a bottle of of Meteorito. The wine was basically a fusion of interests for Ian Hutcheon, who runs a vineyard and this astronomy center in Chile called the Centro Astronomica Tagua Tagua.

What he did was ferment the red wine by putting the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with the three-inch meteorite inside the wooden barrel. The wine is then bottled twenty-five days later.

So how does Meteorito taste compared to the non-meteorite version of the wine? According to Hutcheon, it is “livelier.” But hey, maybe that’s what something from space can do either to you (or to the wine.)

Each bottle of Meteorito costs just £7 (~$11 USD), and over 10,000 have so far been fermented.

Who knew mixing up a bunch of cocktails could be so hard? The process to actually create some of today’s cocktails is even called “molecular mixology.” I used to think that this was an extremely fancy and complicated term for “mixing drinks,” but seeing some of the results of this process, I’d have to say the name fits the process just right.

However, those who aren’t exceptionally skilled in concocting their own visually-appealing cocktails might want to look towards these Sidekick Shot Glasses for a little bit of extra help. All you have to do is put some food or food-safe condiment in the removable bottom section of the glass. Snap it on to the top section of the glass, and then pour in your poison of choice. Drink up, and then pop the booze-infused snack into your mouth for a mind-blowing treat at the end.

If you want to give it a shot (pun intended), you can get the Sidekick Shot Glasses from ThinkGeek for $19.99.

Fresh from Ryan Industries comes a craft beer that goes well with apocalyptic retro first person shooters. It is appropriately called Brow Sweat and is made by home craft brewer Calum.

It’s a pale ale with an authentic Ryan Industries label. When you find yourself under the sea, get into the bottle. After a long hard day at Rapture, it turns out that a man really is entitled to the sweat of his brow. While your up getting some plasmids, would you kindly please grab me a beer from the fridge?

It was apparently created for a post-apocalyptic themed party. I can only imagine that there were several hulking and drunk Big Daddies tumbling about drunk, breaking everything in sight.

So your alcoholic beverages might as well look the part. This drink is made to look like the the two colored portals from the amazing game Portal 2.

They are simple to make and look like great drinks for your geeky get-togethers. For the blue version, get a small glass and pour in 10ml of Blue Curacao, 10ml of vodka and top it off with some lemonade (courtesy of Cave Johnson.)

For the orange version use 10ml of Cointreau, 10ml of rum and Orangina. Put some colored sugar on the rims to finish off the look. Sugar in a sandwich bag with some food coloring is all you need.

Following the experiment, there will be drinks.

I’ve always wanted one of those fancy liquor cabinets in my house. I’m not talking about the type that look like an old globe either. I want a really cool one. Perhaps something really original, like one that looks like an AT-AT Imperial Walker. Oh, what’s that you say? Somebody already beat me to the punch? Damn.

Yep, what you’re looking at here is the most awesome bar for serving up your finest booze – all in the shape of an AT-AT. Luckily, it has yet to be brought down by a snow speeder’s tow cables, as that would be a horrible tragedy. The cabinet appears to be handcrafted from wood and brass, and stands at least 4 or 5 feet tall – unless those guys in the photo are Ewoks disguised as humans.

I know not from whence this tasty morsel of awesome comes, other than the fact that these photos were posted up on imgur about a week ago. If you happen to have been involved in the construction of this monument to geeky greatness, speak up and take credit where credit is due. I’ll be over here in the corner, keeping warm with a Hoth Toddy.

Apple has one of the sharpest and fastest-acting legal teams out there because there have actually been a lot of otherwise cool Apple or Steve Jobs-related products that have been pulled out of shelves because of trademark issues (like the Steve Jobs Frozen in Carbonite iPhone Skin. Remember that?)

Another product that’s up for a possible quick “cease-and-desist” is Facedrink. And it’s pretty obvious which company’s going to be wanting to pull this drink off of Amazon.

Facedrink is dubbed as “the social drink,” obviously a play on Facebook, “the social network.” But really, Facedrink is just an energy drink and I doubt there’s anything truly special about it, except for its packaging. As a matter of fact, one of the customer reviews say it tastes “god awful.”

The company’s website claims that it’s the drink that “gives you social energy – but really, what exactly is social energy?

Even Facedrink’s website kind of looks like Facebook. I wonder how long it will be before Zuckerberg and his team take notice of this, but I don’t think it will take long.

The following post is from Technabob guest writer Jack Kieffer of Cool Gizmo Toys, a site written by geeks, for geeks. Thanks, Jack!

Nothing tastes more refreshing than a cold beverage after a long day of getting beaten over the head at work, or a hot cup of hot chocolate after being beaten over the head outside in the snow. The Superhero Coasters are a geeky, and relatively inexpensive, way to make sure that your fancy tables don’t suffer from drink-rings of death.

A pack of four contains Superman, Batman, the Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman coasters, and costs $13(USD). Superman can withstand the heat of your drink, and the occasional stray bullet, but don’t put these coasters in the dishwasher. Or, if you would like to bring about the quick demise of your favorite childhood heroes, get a dishwasher. Or you could get a hammer, which would be more fun, but it would certainly still be a waste of 4 perfectly geeky coasters. Also, $13, which is a lot of money for some people. Besides, you could take that $13 you saved and put it towards buying more stuff that you don’t really need, such as the Arcade Button Coasters or the 8-Bit Hair Bows.

Head on over to the product page at Neatoshop to check out the Superhero Coasters, and head on over to my buddy’s house to watch us punch each other in the abs and tighten up our cores. *Gets punched in the stomach* I can feel the burn! Actually, wait, that may have been my pancreas… KEEP GOING I THINK IT’S WORKING *Gets punched again and doubles over on the ground* Thumbs up! I can feel that six pack growing steadily now!

The Superhero Coasters would make a great gift for any geek who has the physical need to drink, but if you have bad taste and despise this set of geeky products, just look at the TARDIS Purse and get out of my face. Seriously, you need to take a social etiquette skills class – you’re practically spitting on my corneas. *Wipes eyes*

I actually own that, and each time I cut a pizza, I force the kids to hum the theme song. One of the latest sci-fi geek offerings on ThinkGeek is this set of three hot drinks for Star Wars fans.

These drink mixes come in their own lithographed metal cans and are branded with one of our favorite characters of the Star Wars universe. The three drinks include Vader’s Dark Side Roast, Chewbacca’s Hoth Cocoa, and Yoda’s Dagobah Green Tea. I could be down with some Hoth Cocoa on a cold day – that sounds good.

The three flavors come together in one set. I’m not sure how large the cans actually are, but there’s just a small sampling of each. There are three ounces of ground coffee, an ounce of tea leaves, and 8 ounces of cocoa mix. That’s not a lot, but let’s face it you are paying for the cans much more than the contents. You can get the set now for $29.99 (USD) over at ThinkGeek.

And then there are bags that let you indulge in your habit (which is hopefully not an addiction).

The Baggy Winecoat, as this bag is called, isn’t just for wine. Fill her up with beer, soda, juice, ginger ale, and any other drink you want to take with you on the go. It’s fashioned from polyester or leatherette, and comes in five colors for you to choose from: black, red, white, lilac, and black leatherette.

The Baggy Winecoat was actually designed by Jakob Wagner and can hold up to 3 liters of your poison of choice. The bottom is made from solid rubber construction, and it has a built-in spigot so you can dispense your drinks anytime and anywhere you want to.
A plug at the ends of each tray ensure that water doesn’t get into the middle of the straw molds, so you can drink through them. The straws this thing produces look a little chunky to me, but that’s okay – just more ice surface area to keep your drink chilled.

Ice Straw trays are available over at FredFlare for $14(USD) each. I’d love to see someone come up with ice-based Crazy Straws. That’s an ice tray I’d buy.

While typing and drinking is a combination that many writers throughout history are familiar with, here is a new take on the combination. Morskoiboy created this amazing typewriter that will let you actually taste your words and mix cocktails simply typing their name. I’ll have a qwerty please.

Neutral liquids are attached at the top,(alcohol, milk or water) while tubes at the back are attached to different colored liquids, whether it is “G”- grape, “O” orange, “J” – Jagermeister, etc.

As the liquid at the top flows, you type in the letters that make the colored liquids flow along with it. It’s up to you as to which keys go with what liquid, but the liquid-filled 7-segment display always shows the letter you’re typing.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Now that is a stylish way to make drinks. Or should I say type drinks? Whatever. Now if it could just help us remember where we live after too many drinks, it would be perfect.

The next time Jabba is out kicking it with some hotties and bad guys on his sand barge, I bet he could use this ice cube tray for his cocktails. The tray has a little molds of Han Solo in carbonite molded into it.

The tray is made from silicone, not those impossible to crack hard plastic sort, and has six smaller carbonite cubes and one large cube. It’s hard to tell what size the cubes are, but I bet the larger one is more for a punchbowl. I think I would put some grape juice in there and make them look black like the film’s carbonite.

The tray sells for $9.99 (USD) over at Kotobukiya’s website. It is crazy cool though and would be perfect for a Star Wars Blu-ray viewing party or Halloween. I could totally see doing some Jell-O shots out of this thing too. I want one!

I have been out on more than one occasion taking photos for work or just for fun and had someone ask me if I got a good shot. If you are into photography gear, a new set of shot glasses raises the strange possibility of someone taking a shot of you doing shots from a tiny little Canon SLR lens.

Each of the three glasses holds a standard 1.5-ounce shot just like you would get in a typical U.S. single shot glass.

Each of the glasses is made from ceramic and look like tiny Canon EF 24-105mm lenses. You can also use the shot glasses for things like holding paper clips and change if you want. They come in a gift box for helping the special photo geek in your life get the shot they really need.

The little shot glasses come three to a package for $18 (USD). These glasses are out of stock right now, but I bet more will be coming so keep your eyes peeled on Photojojo.
