While touchscreens and trackpads might be what people yearn for, the reality is that most of us still have to use computer mice in some fashion. This is why Nendo designed this mouse that looks like a “D”-cell battery. Need I say more?

The Elecom Kandenchi mouse’s unusual design is a based on the fact that all wireless mice need to be recharged. The nub on the positive end has been turned into the click button, and there’s even a scroll wheel on the side. The interesting thing is that this form factor reduces the overall size of the mouse, meaning that you can use it in more confined places. Ergonomics, on the other hand, have been thrown out the window.

After they were done with the battery mouse, they made a stand that looks like a pair of glasses. Why not? The Megane stand comes in both tablet and smartphone sizes, and when it’s not in use, it folds up like glasses do.

Unlike the eyeglasses on your face, these ones have suction cups in place of lenses, to hold your gadgets firmly in place.

There’s no word yet on pricing or availability of these quirky items, but my guess is that they won’t be that expensive – though they may be difficult to find outside of Japan.

Elecom gives us another reason to keep our AA batteries around with this portable charger. It’s similar to the Sanyo Eneloop Mobile USB Booster, but while that one only takes two AA batteries to provide up to 90 minutes of additional power, the Elecom DE-A01D-1908 combos with four AA batteries to fully recharge an iPhone. Kinda makes the letters in its typically inventory-friendly name quite ironic.

Audio Cubes calls it an “iPhone battery charger” even though it only actually has a USB A Female connector. I see no reason why it shouldn’t work with other cables and devices just like its Eneloop counterpart.

This is probably the closest your smartphone or tablet should ever get to water. This strikingly unusual stand itself was designed by Nendo for Elecom in Japan. The faucet stand will support all manner of smartphones and tablets. It’s definitely one of the rare ways that commonplace electronics can mix with water.

These stands use ABS faucet parts, taking on the appearance of old-fashioned faucets. The faucet streams water in a pool, which serves as the base of the stand.

The stands will be produced in clear, blue, black and white. For anyone looking for a different kind of stand, this might be it. It will be a conversation-starter, once Elecom starts selling it.

This USB flash drive can be clipped anywhere, thanks to the clever way that it was designed. Since USB drives are becoming smaller and smaller, it’s gets easier to lose them. This is one of the reasons why this design makes good sense.

The Data Clip [JP] USB drive was designed by Nendo for Elecom, the Japanese peripheral company. It’s an interesting visual, because the flash drive will store digital documents and media files, but you can clip it to your hardcopied documents and business cards. The shape is supposed to create a relationship between your daily life and digital data.

The drive comes in 4GB size only at this point, and offers password protection as well. Your data can also be encrypted, but that will use double the storage requirements. The Data Clip will be released this August in Japan, but no price has been announced yet.

The Orime was designed with the help of nendo, who also had a hand in the conception of Elecom’s tailed mice. But unlike that design, which is quirky but practical, the Orime seems to have been designed for its novel look alone.

Look at those pointed peaks. Unless its case is made of some soft material, I don’t see how anyone could stand to use one of these for even a handful of seconds. Techie masochists and mice collectors can order the Orime from GeekStuff4U for about $84 (USD).

It’s not every day that you chance upon a mouse with a tail. I’m not talking about that huge, mangy thing running around in the darkest corners of your attic though. Rather, I’m talking about none other than that little clicker that you’ve got beside your keyboard or laptop.

Elecom’s newest series of mice, the Mendo Oppopets, are setting out to take over your desktop (the real one). The tails might look like they’d be a nuisance to your wrist when you’re using the mouse, but don’t you worry. Each tail is meant to be removed as it’s actually a wireless dongle that you’re supposed to plug into a USB to use it.

The colors of the clickwheel match that of the mouse’s tail. They also correspond somewhat to the colors associated to the real, live animals that sports those tails. Choose from designs including that of a pig (pale pink), black (cat), lime green (chameleon), brown (squirrel), orange (fox), and so on and so forth.

It’s true that using a keyboard with your iPad works well, but in retrospect, doesn’t it just transform your tablet into a regular computer? Elecom doesn’t think so, and they’re about to release their keyboard and matching stand to fit your your iPad.

These keyboards will work with the iPad, iPhone, as well as Android tablets and phones. They will also work with your PC and PS3 since they function with Bluetooth. The keyboards come with a stand and are available in Japan only for $66.

All in all, I think that if you really need a computer with a full keyboard, you’re better off splurging and getting a MacBook Air instead of the iPad. You’ll get more storage, a keyboard, and can use all those Mac OSX applications too.

We have seen and talked about a bunch of watchbands for the iPod nano and all of them that I can think of have been made of plastic or silicone, and look modern and slick. If you are the emo sort of geek, that just won’t cut it. Everyone knows that emo geeks need leather with studs.

Rest easy emo folks, your watchband has arrived. It comes from Elecom and is big, wide, and made of leather. It may be lacking in the stud and zipper department, but you can always whip out your Bedazzler or something. You can get brown color in addition to the black.

The hardware has a burnished brass looking finish and a leather strap hold the nano onto the main watchstrap body. Apparently, the straps are about $43 each, and will be hitting Japan in January. No word on when you’ll be able to get one elsewhere.

Finally: A Ninja Turtle-friendly mouse. How could all of you mouse-manufacturers ignore this demographic? Is it because there are only 4 of them? Well if you gave them usable mice earlier then they would have found dates online, don’t you think? You disgust me. All of you except for Elecom, who are going to release what they claim is the world’s most precise mouse, as accurate as writing with a pen on paper. And it’s TMNT-friendly.

See where Donatello would place each of his fat turtle fingers? That’s customer satisfaction right there. Elecom’s not just keen on winning Cowabungas of approval though; for us ordinary humans the Scope Node is a precision mouse.

Although it only has a 1600 dpi rating – Logitech’s G9x can be adjusted to as high as 5000 dpi – Elecom says that their new Scope Node is the world’s most precise mouse because of where they placed the sensor, which is “where a pen point might be located once placed in the user’s hand.” That statement confuses me, because I would think that the pen point would be in the user’s hand, so let’s just have a look at the bottom of the Scope Node:

There we go. Now it makes sense. As with most available mice, the Scope Node will connect via USB and will be compatible with major operating systems.

Softpedia says that the Scope Node sells for ¥6,300 ($64 USD). Not bad for the world’s most precise and the only TMNT-friendly mouse. Radical!

While we now know that a robot can cook an omelet, your PC will just have to do with a mouse that LOOKS like an egg instead of frying one.

Elecom’s Egg Mouse (model M-EGUR) features a bold ovoid design, in a variety of colors that would make even the Easter Bunny proud. The size and contour of the mouse looks like it would fit perfectly in the palm of your hand, while looking great on any desktop. The Egg Mouse features a high-resolution optical sensor, and a super smooth scroll wheel that spins like butta.

Previously available only in Japan, gadget importer AudioCubes managed to fly a bunch of these eggs in for consumption stateside. They’re available now for $49 a piece (which works out to be a rather insane $588 a dozen).
