The video gaming part of the internet is abuzz right now with God of War III’s insanely giant creatures and/or environments. And if you’re a fan of the series, you’re probably pretty envious of people like Nick Chester of Destructoid, who were lucky enough to be allowed to play the demo involving Kratos fighting a giant water crab monster thing while the two are on the arm of the gigantic Titan Gaia. Imagine seeing this in motion:

If I were Samuel Jackson I’d say: that is one huge motherf—— but I’m not Samuel Jackson, so I’ll just stare at the picture in disbelief.

This is mind-boggling. I’m sure the awesomeness will wear off once the game comes out, but for now this is epic scale redefined. Hopefully the rest of the game lives up to these tech demos. Read Chester’s full article and look for Kratos in the other pics over at Destructoid. Sony should make a Where’s Wally-esque picture book to promote the game.

UTIII is one of the few console games out there that really lets gamers create their own unique maps. I don’t mean just moving a few things around like you can with Halo 3′s Forge mode. Nope, with the right tools, you can make your own completely custom environment, letting your imagination run wild. Take, for example, this great LEGO map that the guys over at PS3Fanboy found.

Created by Unreal Tournament 3 mod-man Lord Simeon, the map features a totally destructible LEGO block environment. The map features about 20 types of LEGO blocks (including those little yellow dudes), built into structures you can blow to smithereens, thanks to the game’s excellent physics model.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Remember when you were a kid and you’d build some awesome LEGO creation, then smash it into pieces? That’s what it reminds me of. You can grab the entire mod, packaged up for US or European consoles here.

The rumor mill has started to buzz about what we might see from the big console players at the upcoming E3 conference, scheduled for July 11 to 13, 2007.

According to a forums post over on Wii60, a person claiming to be a “Floor Manager” for the show has revealed the following items as some of the key items that Microsoft will show for their Xbox 360 console:

New Crimson Skies game to be announced

Bungie working on new title/series not related to the Halo/Marathon Universe

Epic Games to show Gears of War 2 Trailer

Microsoft have bought the Star Wars Battlefront 3 rights. Trailer/Demo to be shown

Rare to show off Banjo Kazooie 3 (Banjo-Theerie?)

Rare to announce 2 new games

Rare to announce Kameo 2

Lionhead Studios show more of Fable 2

Microsoft to fund a new game based on Jason Bourne. It’ll be based on the books and not the film with Matt Damon

Team Ninja to show off Ninja Gaiden 2. Labeled 360 Exclusive

Apparently there’s news of a MGS Game for the 360. May or may not be the 4th Installment

Dead Rising 2 to be shown. May not be ready

Now it seems to me that at least some of these items have a ring of truth to them (i.e. the RARE games, Fable 2). However, there’s also some some highly questionable items (the Bourne game, MS acquiring a Star Wars title).

I’m keeping my B.S. detector set to high on this. Besides, what’s really the likelihood that Floor Manager at E3 would a) risk his/her job by revealing this information and b) know so much about the specific products to be promoted in a show that’s almost a month away?

Gaming blog Aeropause asked players who got to play a demo of the highly-anticipated Xbox 360 exclusive Gears of War last night in Chicago to report on their individual experiences. With virtually no exception, the early reactions were extremely positive.

Here are a few choice excerpts:

After playing GEOW I now know that I will never play Halo again, at least until Halo 3. That’s right, GEOW is that freakin good.”

“Once we got past the bore fest that was Texas Chainsaw Massacre we got see in my opinion what is the must have game of the holiday season. The controls were great, even though you had to adjust for them, and the game is just plain old fun!”

“This game is amazing! The graphics are epic, no pun intended, and the gameplay follows suit.”

“The single player looks orgasmic and the MP is a joy to play.”

“I have yet to purchase an Xbox 360 and I decided to go to this event and see what the machine is capable of. I came away impressed with what I would call one of the best Multiplayer games I have ever played.

Gears of War releases on November 7, 2006 from Epic Games and Microsoft Game Studios. I think I know what I’ll be doing that night.
