Starfleet Uniform Pillows: for Outer Space Pillow Fights

We all know that if you wore a red shirt on Star Trek (the original series) that your days (or minutes) were likely numbered. Maybe it’s just that working for the Security or Engineering departments on a Federation starship is more dangerous than most other jobs. But even if you’re worried about the redshirt being evaporated shortly after you put it on your couch, you’ll probably want these Star Trek uniform pillows.

They might not be Federation approved, but if I were Captain, I’d have these in my chambers regardless of any Pillow Directives. These handmade pillows come in three styles: gold (for command), blue (for science), and red (for engineering). The guys over at Yellow Bug Boutique, who make these, claim that there is also a missing red security pillow which “was vaporized in scene 2.”

Each one measures 14″ x 14″ and is made from fleece and felt. Trekkies can head over to Etsy and beam down a set of three pillows for $100 (USD). Individual pillows will set you back $35 each, plus shipping. I wonder what shipping rates will be like once they perfect transporter technology.

Steampunk Heels with Lace, Jewels, and LED Lighting – What More Can You Ask for?

Statement shirts, statement earrings, statement necklackes, statement doormats – all sorts of stuff that make a statement are everywhere these days. Statement shoes have long been in fashion as well, but I think I just saw the pair that make the loudest statement ever.

These ornate “Steampunk” heels are adorned with lace and embellished with rhinestones on all sides. The edge of the shoes are also lined with smoked glass beads and vintage charms, which give the shoes a gothic vibe, in my opinion.

The coolest thing about these heels (and the reason they’re here on Technabob in the first place) are the LED lights. I mean, they aren’t the first pair of footwear that light up, but they’re the first heels I’ve seen that do in a long, long time.

They’re also pretty much the only ones I know that come with a remote so you can set the color of the LED lights and decide how fast you want them to fade or light up. I can just see someone wearing these heels now while getting down on the dance floor…

Pizza Sleeping Bag: Mushrooms, Extra Zzzzz

We didn’t really go on a lot of camping trips when me and my siblings were still kids. But that’s probably because we were all girls and were a handful to deal with. That, and we weren’t really huge fans of insects or of the great outdoors.

I think me and my sisters would have thought differently though, if my dad told us we’d be sleeping in a giant pizza inside our tent. Not a real one, of course, because that would just be gross – but this Slice of Pizza Sleeping Bag instead.

This comfortable sleeping bag looks like your basic slice of pizza with tomato sauce and some vegetarian toppings. Personally, I prefer white sauce pizzas, but this will have to do. The coolest thing about it is probably the toppings. If you haven’t guessed already, they aren’t just there for decoration because they’re actually pillows. I don’t think I’d like any broccoli on my pizza though, but olives, mushrooms, and pepperoni? Count me in.

Floppy Disk iPad Case Has Massive Capacity

While this felt case is modeled after the old 3.5 inch floppy disk, it actually measures in at 8.5 inches by 10.25 inches in order to accommodate your tablet. That makes it even bigger than one of those gigantic, antiquated 8 inch floppies, but rectangular instead of square. That gets me thinking – how would the disc turn inside of a rectangular enclosure anyhow?

Mario Clock with Goomba Pendulum: How’s Your Goomba Hangin?

There never seems to be enough time. Whether you are passing the day away working in an office, sweating in a factory, or in Mario’s case: saving the Princess. No, time is not on our side. Especially for Mario. The clock is even running down as he rushes to complete his levels. And now he has a heavy Goomba swinging from his mushroom kingdom to slow him down even more.

This 8-bit inspired clock is awesomely retro. I know that Mario is supposed to be jumping over a Goomba, but all I see is a Goomba swinging from his junk. Since that’s stuck in my head, I guess this clock isn’t for me, even though I still find it awesome.

The line piece is not as desirable as a soap as it is in the game. It’s not as unwieldy and pointy as the other Tetriminos, but in Soap Tetris the most coveted piece is the cube. Using the Z Tetromino must hurt.

Transparent Stained Glass Prints Hang in the Church of Geek

You don’t have to be religious at all to enjoy these fantasy prints designed to look like stained glass windows. Created by Marissa Garner of Fay Productions, they incorporate a variety of entertaining subjects from Batman to My Little Pony.

Despite just being ink on transparency paper, they’re designed to be taped up to your window or a light box to create a cool stained glass effect.

My personal favorite is the one with characters from the Batman comic book universe, but Spider-Man fans will be happy to Marissa’s got you and your web-slinging hero covered. Though there’s not quite enough room for all of Doc Ock’s tentacles.

MST3K Locket Mocks Your Precious Pictures

I sure miss Mystery Science Theater 3000. My fondest memories of the show are way back in the Joel Hodgson era, but these days, just seeing a picture of Crow, Tom Servo or Gypsy makes me giddy. Now I only wish that I could pull off this MST3K pendant to show my love for the classic sci-fi comedy show.

Just like the setup of the show – where Joel (or Mike) sat with the robots and made fun of bad “B” movies, this handmade pendant makes your favorite photo the subject of their humorous jabs.

The MST3K locket is made by Laura of PicaPicaPress, and it’s the perfect place to house a picture of a loved one with a good sense of humor. Super Mario Bros. Custom Vans Deck out Your Feet Mario Style

Kivadeno, an Etsy user, has created some awesome Super Mario Bros. Custom Vans. I know what you’re all thinking… you probably think that your nondescript white van with no windows serves you well enough in driving around for your window cleaning business, and that a Super Mario Bros. van might draw too much unneeded attention.

Well, you are obviously not “hip”, as the kids say these days, since you were unaware that vans are no longer ugly cars – they are things that you put on your feet. The Super Mario Brothers Custom Vans feature both Mario and Luigi – one on each shoe. Despite the fact that Kivadeno may have forgotten to draw Luigi’s chin (maybe he left it at home) the designs are pretty awesome.

On the back of the shoes, you have a couple of options. You can get the red and green mushrooms, or you can get two generic Yoshi eggs. You can go with this, or you can go with that. *Cue shuffling hamsters* Obviously, you want to go with the ‘shrooms on this one. Unfortunately, since these shoes are hand-painted, and Kivadeno put a lot of effort into making them, you’re going to have to fork over $90(USD) for them. Geeks, get your forks ready, because there’s only one pair left, and I’m sure plenty of other people have their silverware primed and ready to fork over cash. *Stabs a $100 bill* I’M GOING ALL IN ON THIS ONE.

R2-D2 Apron: There’s a Droid in the Kitchen

R2-D2 was a very versatile droid, but throughout all the Star Wars saga, I don’t ever remember seeing him cooking. Even though the little droid has his own BBQ meat smoker, soy sauce dispenser and pepper mill, he’s still never in the kitchen. But that doesn’t mean that cooking wasn’t among his many talents – it’s just that everyone was too busy fighting the Empire and the Sith to stop and chow down. You, on the other hand, occasionally need to stop to cook something, and what better way to do it than wearing this spectacular R2-D2 apron.

It’s made by Etsy contributor HauteMessThreads, and perfectly captures R2′s key attributes, while still being completely serviceable as an apron. While I’d say that either a guy or girl could wear this, I think the little bows, cinched waist and v-neck make it more appropriate for girly geeks than the boys. I think it’d take a really confident man – I’m talking Boba Fett confident – to pull this thing off.

Each apron is handmade to order, and is crafted from 100% cotton, with blue and black accents. The R2-D2 apron sells for $70 (USD), but if you want an XL, you’ll need to chip in an extra 5 bucks. It’s available for order over on Etsy. C-3PO is also available, but I’d say he’s not quite as awesome as R2, which is too bad, because I always envisioned 3-PO as some sort of robot butler who would do my bidding and cook me up a nice wampa steak.

Nintendo Wii Tobacco Pipe: You Can Put Your Wii-d In There

While it’s home to all sorts of cool artist creations, you can definitely your share of weird stuff over on Etsy, too. Take, for instance, this “tobacco bowl” made up in the form of a Nintendo Wii controller. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess this isn’t official Nintendo merchandise.

This Wii-mote shaped wooden pipe has been hand-sanded, woodburned, and coated with carnauba wax so you can smoke your *uhm* tobacco in it. Now, I’ve never personally witnessed anybody smoking tobacco in this way, but seller Nirvana Corner is quick to point out “**This item is for Tobacco use only**,” so I’m going to take their word for it. In the mean time, I’ll be checking out their Bob Marley switchplates and hemp necklaces. That all said, this Wii-mote is best for tobacco smoking at precisely 4:20pm.

Steampunk Sony VAIO F Goes Back to the Victorian Era

Is your laptop feeling too modern and shiny for you? Why not give it a retro redo? With the eCog Mercury mod, you can give your Sony VAIO a serious steampunk makeover, and send your 21st century gadget all the way back to the 19th century.

Designer John “Wilhelm” Dunn of the Victorian Steam Calculation Engine Company originally created this steampunk mod on commission for Sony, but is now selling the same thing as a mod for your own laptop. The primary components of the eCog Mercury include beautifully-finished birch plywood trim, retro key caps, and a grid of copper and steel “pipes” (actually wires and drawer pulls) and (non-functional) gauges which protrude from the back of the laptop’s display, which John refers to as his “boilerplate” design (also available as an iPad 2 or Nook Color case.)

The keyboard keys are encircled by solid brass bezels, and have translucent off-white keycaps which allow the keyboard’s backlighting to show through in the dark. The larger keys also have birch ply veneers, and the trackpad is surrounded by red fabric wrist rests.

If you want one of these, you’ll first need to go pick up a Sony VAIO F series laptop of your own. That’ll set you back between $1000 and $2500 (USD). Then, you’ll need the eCog mod, which costs another $1250. So this clearly isn’t a project for cheapskates. On the other hand, the end result is pretty spectacular, and I’m pretty sure even your pals with the sleekest new MacBooks will be jealous of your laptop when it’s done.

John is quick to point out that the design could be customized to your liking if you’d like to commission him to make additions or modifications to the design. Down the road, he even plans on building a steampunk goggle mod for the 3D glasses which work with the top-of-the-line VAIO Fs and other Sony 3D displays. Atari 2600 Speaker Dock: iTunes Goes 8-Bit

Most of us who have a need for a speaker dock for our iPhones or media players already have one. But if you’re among the few who haven’t already invested in one of the myriad docks out there, you might want to check out this unusual dock, built out of an old Atari 2600 console.

Daniel McLeod of Black Mountain Audio gutted an old Atari 2600 (made back in November 1980,) and replaced its innards with a couple of computer speakers, and added a dock where the cartridge usually goes. It also comes with an external subwoofer, which he wasn’t able to cram inside the console itself.

He swapped out the power connector with a 3.5mm jack, suitable for plugging in any media player. While I love the idea of this, I wish that it could actually accommodate a 30-pin dock connector for charging an iOS device. Maybe you could cram one of these in the cartridge slot instead. There also should be some way that you could still play games on it – especially since you can still connect controllers to it. It’s just too tempting.

Still, it’s a pretty cool conversation piece if you’re into retro gaming, and want a unique dock for your media player. It’s currently for sale over on Etsy for $100 (USD).

Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robot Ukulele: You Rocked My Block Off!

Robots and ukuleles. They go together like, well, um, robots and ukuleles. Still, that doesn’t stop this Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robot ukulele from being any less excellent.

From the looks of this Rock ‘em Robot, he’s already had his block knocked off by another (as yet unseen) robo-ukulele. Probably a blue one if you ask me. I really want to push down on his head to put it back in place, but until they can come up with a retractable fret board, I’ll have to live with it as-is.

Some women carry so much junk in their purses, they could definitely use something that’s bigger on the inside. Like a TARDIS. No wonder TARDIS purses are becoming more popular. We recently told you about this TARDIS purse, but I think the one shown here is much neater. It probably still won’t hold all of your things, but it’s nice to see the woman toting around the Doctor for once.

This thing ought to make quite a few men want to start carrying handbags. Etsy seller LIMOchi makes them to order and it looks quality made indeed. It measures about 11″ x 6.25″ x 6.25″.

Made of blue poly leather and rigid cardboard, it is even rain-resistant and custom details can be added if you like. Any girl who carries this thing is the girl of my dreams.

Skyrim Dragonborn Mandolin: This Axe Really Slays ‘Em

Everyone is crazy about Skyrim, even musicians. If you are a musician who loves the game, you might want to check out this sweet mandolin that looks like something Tenacious D would use to bring the thunder.

It’s a one of a kind hand-carved Skyrim The Elder Scrolls Dragon Mandolin, with a beautiful metallic flecked silvery green finish. It was created by Etsy seller TTguitars and features hand carved wings, and a copper-inlaid head in the neck piece and a pickup. It’s made to order. Just tell them what you want and pay half up front.

They say that it plays beautifully. That may be true, but I will never know since it is priced at $695(USD). Hopefully its song doesn’t call any powerful dragons.

Crocheted Tusken Raiders Hat, Now You Just Need a Bantha

Tusken Raiders are awesome. They travel in single file to hide their numbers, they ride giant Banthas, make silly noises and best of all, some of them were shooting at Anakin during that stupid pod-race scene. Now you can keep warm this winter by wearing an actual Tusken Raider on your head. A crocheted version of course.

Donkey Kong Quilt… So That’s How Billy Mitchell Scores in Bed

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a really cool video game inspired quilt, so I was happy when I saw this one, which looks just like the game screen from the original Donkey Kong.

This 100% cotton quilt was made by David McFarling (aka “McFrogling“) and it features the likeness of DK himself, Jumpman (not officially known as Mario at that point), and the damsel in distress (definitely not Princess Peach.) The pixelated characters are placed into a larger-than-life setting of girders and broken ladders, just like in the arcade game.

It measures in at 60″ x 58″ and definitely would look good on a full size bed (or probably a queen too), so this isn’t just for the little kid’s room. I like how Kong id dropping a barrel nowhere near the plumber, so he hasn’t had to whip out the sledgehammer yet. On the other hand, it looks like the only ladder up is broken, so his chances of reaching his ladyfriend are pretty darned slim. Oh well, it wasn’t designed for its gameplay accuracy? Creative license and all, right?
