Simple but Effective: Bloody Xbox Faceplate

This Xbox 360 faceplate isn’t actually bloody (I hope!), but it is certainly evocative of the horror of a zombie apocalypse–something that is becoming a more and more common experience with Xbox games every day. Seems like zombies are everywhere lately, bursting out of zombie games and invading everything else. Like this faceplate.

This particular custom faceplate looks pretty simple, right? I’m sure you’re scoffing, thinking, “I could do that.” And if you’re one of the lucky artistic ones, I’m sure you could! So long as you’re willing to get red paint all over your fingers (ew). But man, I’ve seen some really atrocious custom paint attempts that have ruined consoles before, so may I advise using a cheap faceplate if you try it, and maybe having a backup on hand?

Louis Vuitton Faceplate: the Real Xbox 360 Elite

When I think of Louis Vuitton, I usually think of primping poseurs with puny purse-size pekingese – not potty-mouthed pre-pubescents playing PGR, Portal and Prince of Persia. But the minute I laid eyes on this Xbox 360 window-dressing I had to give it a second thought.

Our pals over at Hawty McBloggy spotted this over-the-top Air Effex custom airbrushed Louis Vuitton-inspired Xbox 360 faceplate over on eBay. It’s perfect if you’re going for that Tracy Jordan on 30 Rock look (or if you’ve just got taste up your arse.) It’s also perfect if you happen to be the guy who owns this car…

If you’d like to add some bling blech (I swore I’d never use that word) to your Xbox 360, you’d better head on over to eBay and hit Buy It Now for $21 before this LV faceplate gets no bids or Vuitton himself comes back from the grave to sick his lawyers on these guys for using his trademark logo without permission, whichever comes first.

Put Some Metal on Your Guitar Hero Les Paul

If the basic Guitar Hero Les Paul controllers are just too bland for your tastes, but you don’t want to shell out the change for a whole new controller when you have one that works just fine, you might try a faceplate. And if you want a faceplate that’s really metal…lic, you might try one of these shiny flaked jobs.

The faceplates, which are available from CodingHorror’s Etsy shopfront, work with either PS3 or Xbox 360 wireless Les Paul controllers, but not with the Wii set, alas. Only the “real manly awesome consoles,” as he puts it. For shame.

But all system snobbery aside, if you need to rock out with extra shine, these faceplates might be just what you need to stand out at the next fake band get-together.

They could have at least included a liger in the menagerie. There’s even a matching replacement cover ($17 to $18 each) for your 360 controller if you want to go all out with the animal theme.

Intricate Handmade Xbox 360 Faceplates

Swiss artist André Willimann handcrafts these gloriously detailed 3-dimensional faceplates for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console. Each one is meticulously assembled from custom molded 3-D pieces, then individually oil painted to give the works depth and color.

The artist is currently selling a limited-edition series called “Treasure Island”, which feature a vivid scene of tropical waves, islands and even a detailed skull if you look close enough.

While I love the pirate theme, I have to say this earlier “Molten Stone” faceplate really knocked my socks off. It looks like a hot lava flow busting through a slab of rock.

While the Molten Stone one isn’t for sale, you can find one of the Treasure Island faceplates on the artist’s Etsy shop ($120), but since each one is handmade, you might have to wait a little while if the current listing sells.
