What you’re looking at here is the Bioshock Mr. Potato Head – called Potato Daddy, or as I like to call him Mr. Bubbles Head.

This crazy creation is the work of one Ginger Troll, and is the perfect mashup between Bioshock’s Big Daddy and Mr. Potato Head.

I love how he still has the googley eyeballs from Mr. Potato Head, but wields that nasty killer drill. From the looks of things he’s even a little bigger than this Bouncer, so maybe he could take him on in a fight. Er, maybe not.

John built the robot from scratch using sheet styrene. He drew a reference sketch of the ‘bot that he used throughout the creation process. All of the joints were made so that they would allow the resulting ‘bot to be posed. I have to say that it looks pretty awesome.

The Q-14 Reconnaissance robot’s construction is fully detailed on the Neiner family blog.

Would you scratch-build your own ‘bot like this? It’s a pretty daunting project, but when you take it one step at a time, I suppose anything is possible.

The iModela costs about $1,000(USD), definitely not a kid-friendly price. For that price, you get a device that is nice and compact for your computer desk and uses a USB connection to access the associated software for the 3D models you want to make. Basically, it allows you to make your own action figures, milling them from plastic, wax, balsa wood, or foam.

After you make a figure, you can then paint the details on. As you can see from the video, it’s not the speediest process, and in a few years we will probably have a machine that can create fully painted figures in under a minute. For now, this is still a pretty sweet toy-making machine.

In addition to his sassy witticisms, Bender stands 9-inches tall, has bendable (of course) arms, and a hollow chest cavity you can store your tiniest possessions inside. Proving, as we already knew, that Bender has no heart (we already knew his liver was gone.) He also comes with interchangeable eyeballs, which let you choose between a variety of moods, ranging from “deer caught in the headlights”, to “pissed off” to “hung over.”

The In’tendo Minion custom Munny was made by Joseph Drust, and it has an NES console in the base, as a small LCD monitor in place of a helmet. All he has to do to get his game on is to snap a classic 8-bit cartridge in the back of the Minion, and he’s off to the races.

I can’t tell you how much I love this custom, and really hope that Joseph decides to do a whole retro console series at some point. Imagine an army of Atari, SEGA, Sony and Nintendo custom Munnies, each playing classic console games in its head. Or maybe a MAME Munny that plays all the classic arcade games. Sweet.

In addition to Bouncer, the latest action figure collection includes Big Daddy Rosie and Brute, Crawler and Ladysmith Splicer figures. And the “ultra deluxe” Big Daddy Bouncer even has LED lights inside his helmet that light up and change colors. Sweet. The figures each measure about 7-inches tall and most come with props and articulated joints.

Bouncer is already available, Rosie hits in June and the Splicers arrive in Rapture starting in July. Prices for the BioShock action figures range from $14.99 to $19.99 over at Entertainment Earth. Tonics and ADAM not included.

Two series of 6-inch-tall figures are set to ship this Fall, with September’s Series 1 featuring Rick Grimes (looks like he found his bag of guns), Michonne, a Zombie Lurker and a Zombie Roamer. The second series ships in November and includes an alternate version of Grimes, Daryl Dixon, a Zombie Walker and a Zombie Biter. The toys each have articulating joints and the zombies even have some removable limbs and other body parts. And from the looks of the early prototype of Michonne that MTV’s Splash Page managed to dig up, she’s got a sword and a drill on hand for plenty of brutal zombie-killing action.

All eight figures are available for pre-order over at Entertainment Earth for $14.99 (USD) each, or in sets of 4 for $55.99. While you wait, you can check out more pics over on Facebook. Personally, I wish they would make one with Merle Dixon with a removable hand.

I wish I were being facetious. In Visceral Games’ Dante’s Inferno, instead of lamenting over the death of Beatrice and writing some pretty epic poetry by the light of a fire, Dante – returning home from the Crusades – takes Death’s scythe and plunges into the Underworld to rescue Beatrice’s soul.

So it’s safe to assume that, as a student of English and Literature, I won’t be propping this interpretation of Dante up on my desk anytime soon. Not unless I want to totally ruin my scholarly cred. The worst part? The game, as a medium for play, is probably really fun. God of War-like. Too bad it’s dressed in disservice.

I’ll have a chance to play Dante’s Inferno at the Game X Industry Summit this weekend in Oaks, PA, so who knows. Maybe it will somehow, magically, offend less.

Said horsey-version of Odin was on display last weekend in figure form at Chara-Hobby, a figure and hobby show that was held in Chiba, Japan. Also on display were fully painted figures of Lightning, Vanille, Hope, Snow, and Sazh. In addition to the cast of Final Fantasy XIII, Chara-Hobby featured all kinds of anime figures, including a slew of overly sexualized anime girls. I’m not so big on the anime scene, though, so I couldn’t tell you who they are or what they’re from, so you’ll have to take a look for yourself.

Okay, so Final Fantasy keeps getting weirder and weirder. The peculiar nature of Final Fantasy aside, I’m still pumped for Final Fantasy XIII. And while I’m not big on collecting collectables, I do want a shiny statue of Lightning to grace my work desk, ‘cause grrrl power rocks.

Sorry, I spent my summer watching all seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
