A lot of people have gotten into trouble because of photos that have been uploaded to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. From bosses to wives to potential employers, there’s a lot to be lost, especially for people who like to party hard.

A quirky solution? The Photoblocker Beer Cooler.

The Norte Photoblocker was created for an ad campaign of Norte Beer, a South American brewer. The cooler has been equipped with a sensor that detects when a flash is fired from a camera. Once it does, it emits a flash of its own – ruining the picture and saving your job/relationship/friendships/reputation in the process.

In case you’re wondering, the ones behind the Photoblocker Beer Cooler are the fine folks from Argentinian ad agency Del Campo/Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi, and yes, they have actually made some of these and provided them to nightclubs already.

Comic books are cool. I love Batman, The Flash and all the rest, but personally I draw the line at Superhero undies. But if you want a case of comic book crotch, you’ll be happy to know that Diesel has unveiled a line of superhero themed boxer briefs.

These boxers are all based on DC Comics characters. You can get Batman, Green Lantern and The Flash themed undies, as well as The Joker – but he’s not a superhero, so what is he doing in your underwear? They won’t give you super-powers, they will just make you feel like they do. Unless, that is, you consider light or temperature-sensitive prints that only show up under your own body heat, or designs that reveal themselves after time to be super-powers.

The Flash version is probably the coolest, since you don’t want those tacky Joker colors on your junk and also probably don’t want a Batsignal tramp stamp behind you. You can check them all out here. It looks like they will cost you $34(USD) a pair and some shameful looks from your girlfriend. Girlfriend. That’s funny.

There are a lot of good websites that still use Adobe Flash, but it looks like you may not be able to access them on your new PlayStation Vita. Not at launch anyway. Japanese magazine, Famitsu recently posted a FAQ for the PlayStation Vita, along with some browser specs and oddly enough, it doesn’t list Flash support.

It will run Javascript 1.7 and HTML5 though, and it is possible that we will see an update to enable Flash once it’s released. We hope so anyway. It also looks like “Game Archives” is absent, which means no PSOne classics or TurboGFX games for retro gamers. Sony has already contradicted this though, so I’m guessing that those features will arrive after launch in an update.

We will just have to wait and see, but I can’t imagine they would skip Flash altogether.

To celebrate the fact that Doctor Who started up again last Saturday, it’s only fitting that we find these cute little animated GIFs that Lucile Patron made. Well, technically they aren’t GIFs, they are Flash files, but they’re basically done to look like pixelated animated GIFs.

She’s made three (1, 2, 3) animations that I found especially funny. Once you check them out, it’s obvious why she used Flash files. They are quite long and it’s easy to miss if you don’t pay attention. Those aren’t the only pixel animations she’s made. There are others, but they don’t include Doctor Who characters or jokes.

She definitely managed to capture the essence of Donna Noble in one of the animations. It’s surprising how accurate it feels, one you start hearing her going on about “mating” and “sunshine”. And her Amy Pond isn’t bad either…

You can check out all of these and other animations over at Lucile’s blog.

Most of the cheap Chinese game console knockoffs do just one thing – play old 8-bit NES or Famicom games. Some of them don’t even do that. Here’s one console clone that claims to do way more than those.

The P1-4000 (aka PI-4000) Game Station may look a whole lot like a PS2 Slim, but it’s actually a media player, capable of handling a whole bunch of video file formats, as well as audio and e-books. The console can play videos in RM, RMVB, AVI, MKV, WMV, VOB, FLV, ASF, DAT, MP4, 3GP, MPG, and MPEG formats, and audio in MP3, WMA, DRM WMA, OGG, APE, FLAC, WAV, and AAC. It can play video at up to 720p resolution through its HDMI output.

The thing is also supposed to play all PlayStation 1 games, as well as Flash games written for PC versions of Flash 4-8, and Flash Lite 1-3 (assuming they use ActionScript 1 or 2). So you won’t be able to play the latest and greatest games on here, that’s for sure.

It’s got 4GB of built-in flash memory, as well as support for SD cards up to 32GB or USB storage devices. It comes with a pair of wired controllers that look just like the PlayStation 2′s controllers, along with an IR remote for controlling media playback. It also includes 8 DVDs filled with games (which I imagine you’ll have to copy over to flash memory from your PC). I have no idea what these games are, or if any of them are illegal, so this is definitely a Caveat Emptor kind of situation. That said, I dug up these photos which show the console playing some games:

If you’re willing to take a gamble on this thing, you can get your hands on the P1-4000 Game Station over at DealExtreme for about $92 USD. Of course, for about the same price, you could just buy an actual PS2.

I would bet anyone that has an iPhone has tried at one point or another to shoot photos with the built-in camera. The iPhone 4 has a flash built-in, but that flash is not very powerful meaning you end up with dark photos if the subject is too far away. I also always end up with photos that are blurry as well because I tend to make the camera move when pressing the touchscreen to shoot the image.

Over on Kickstarter, a new accessory for the iPhone has turned up called iShuttr. This accessory is a case that snaps onto your iPhone and covers up the stock flash. That’s okay though since the case has a much larger and brighter Xenon flash. Inside the case is also a battery to power that flash that charges with a USB cable.

The case also has a grip and a button for the shutter and buttons for zooming in and out with the digital zoom instead of using the touchscreen. This gadget is a concept right now and is on Kickstarter seeking funding. The designer, Robert Haleluk is seeking $50,000 in order to produce the iShuttr and already has about $5,000 in pledges. All contributions of $50 or more will get one of the first iShuttrs off the assembly line.

Using these drives you can access up to 6 cards simultaneously, either as individual disks, as a single boot drive or a combination of both. There are also versions of both drives that are connected to a Hardware Port Multiplier (HPM), so you can have a variety of RAID set ups.

The drives will fit into the standard 5.25″ bays so you shouldn’t have a problem fitting them into your PC tower or rack. The picture above shows the CF and CFast drives with independent card slots, while the one below shows the drives with HPMs, which support RAID 0, 1, 3, 5, 10, JBOD, Clone Mode (N-Way Mirror) or a five drive setup.

You can order these drives directly from Addonics. The drives without HPMs sell for $135 (USD), while those that have HPMs sell for $199. Customization options are also available, including the option to order a drive with a combination of CF and CFast slots.

I know you love your iPhone, but the flash isn’t really very powerful. That’s why this iFlash add-on might do the trick to get a bit more pop in low light conditions. People are relying more and more on their iPhones for their digital imaging needs, so every little bit helps.

The iFlash will improve some of your pics, kind of like when you buy a standalone flash for your DSLR, albeit not to the same extent. Sometimes I will take photos at the same time as someone with a bigger flash and I do get better results, so it might be good to have something like this around.

The iFlash is available for £19.99 (appx. $32 USD) at IWantOneofThose. Ultimately, if you really need more flash power, then this will work, however I just wonder what new features the iPhone 5 camera will have.

The Great Gatsby isn’t just a famous novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, it’s also a NES game! Thanks to Charlie Hoey you can now play this retro game right on this website.

Charlie bought this game at a yard sale for 50 cents. After some TLC, it actually started working. It’s an unreleased version of the Japanese game called Doki Doki Toshokan: Gatsby no Monogatari. There isn’t much more to go on, but it was enough for Charlie to port it over into a Flash-based game that all can enjoy.

This definitely make me want to take out Contra or Shadow of the Ninja and play a few games. While it won’t help you write a book report for school, at least it’s a bit of fun.

The new Batman series of MIMOBOTs offers giant-headed versions of Batman, Robin, Catwoman, The Joker and a vintage version of Batman – the one with the black hood instead of the blue cartoon one. Each drive comes pre-loaded with a bunch of desktop wallpapers, icons, avatars and screensavers too.

They’re definitely stylized like the DC Comic characters, so if you’re looking for Christian Bale’s rippling muscle-suit (or Michael Keaton’s, George Clooney’s or Val Kilmer’s), you’re out of luck.

Prices range from $19.95(USD) for 2GB up to $59.95 for the 16GB version. Sure, they’re not the cheapest flash drives you can buy, but they are some of the cooler ones out there. You can get your grubby little mitts on the entire Batman MIMOBOT collection here.

The Dark Phoenix apron is my favorite, even if it’s obviously for women. Check out Bethany’s website for more of her character aprons. Instructions on ordering are on her site as well. The adult-sized aprons typically cost $35-$50 (USD), more if the design is complicated.

My favorite thing to do at CES is dig around the smaller booths for the more unusual gadgets out there. With thousands of booths, it takes some serious legwork, but occasionally I find something worthy of a mention. Here’s one of those things. It’s a flashlight that can actually record video.

Built into Goscam’s GD2716 Light Force flashlight is a video camera and DVR. The flashlight features multiple extra-bright 1-watt LEDs, and the camera can capture VGA (640×480) video onto the flashlight’s internal memory. Up to 32GB storage is available, and the whole thing runs on a built-in rechargeable battery that’ll give you 3.5 hours of run time on a 4 hour charge. Once you’ve shot your video, you can download the captured AVI files to your computer via a USB 2.0 connection.

While I’m sure this is really designed for use by law enforcement so they can record video of suspects at the end of the flashlight, it can also be used for building inspectors and construction workers, and anyone else who needs to capture video in the dark. Sure, you can’t go unnoticed like you could with a nightvision camera, but this will probably capture much better video. Of course, you could always just strap one of those GoPro cameras to a flashlight with some duct tape and achieve a similar result.

As expected, some new solid-state drives are being showcased at this week’s CES. Micron was the first to show things off with their RealSSD C400 drives – based upon a 25-nanometer NAND flash die-based drive.

These new drives will offer performance that could be nearly 30% faster than previous SSDs, and SSDs were already fast. The new RealSSD C400 will come in 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch sizes, with storage ranging from 64GB to 512GB.

Ever since I opened up my MacBook Pro 17 on Christmas Day, I’ve been thinking about upgrading to add an extra SSD drive. However, high costs and these speedy upcoming 25-nanometer drives stopped me from doing so in December. Expect blindingly fast booting speeds from these drives when they arrive.

Mass production is expected to begin in early February, 2011, and Micron will sell these as part as the Crucial drive family in the first quarter of 2011.

Need to crank out hundreds of flash drives for a business presentation or a trade show? Want to create your own digital business cards? Looking for a great way to distribute your next music demo? The guys at Nexcopy have a nifty solution with their industrial-strength USB duplicator systems.

Just plug a single USB flash drive into the master port, and you can copy as many as 31 drives at a speed up to 2GBs per minute – which is actually faster than USB 3.0 specs. Nexcopy’s USB duplicator systems work without a PC, and can handle FAT, FAT32, NTFS, Ext2, Ext3, HFS, and UNIX formats, and can automatically verify the integrity of copies once complete.

As I mentioned earlier, these are industrial quality devices, with prices starting at $1799 (USD), they’re not the kind of thing you’d have sitting around your office unless you really do need tons of flash drives copied, but if you do, they’re definitely worth a look.

I bought a dSLR camera years ago because I was tired of getting photos of just an arm when I tried to snap my kids because my point and shoot was too slow. I also wanted to be able to get pics that were exposed well, even if it was dark. What I didn’t realize about exposing the pics at the time was that I was incapable of holding the camera still enough to not get a blurry pic in the dark using manual mode.

While this gadget might not solve for my lack of a tripod, it may help if you have a kid or whiny significant other that hates to be blinded by the camera flash. Lightscoop makes sure you get a nice, even light from your flash by bouncing it off the ceiling or a wall instead of directly into your subjects’ eyeballs. It also helps reduce red-eye and other unnatural things that happen when you aim a flash directly at a face. The thing is simply a mirrored hood that sits over the top of the flash on your Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Pentax, Olympus, or Sony dSLR camera. Sony cameras have a specific version of the Light scoop and the other cams all use a universal version.

A single version of the thing in standard or a slightly pink-hued “warming” version sells for $29.95 (USD) or you can get both for $49.95.

iOS owners now have the option to view Flash videos on websites despite Apple’s refusal to support Flash in their mobile devices, thanks to Skyfire Labs’ Skyfire browser. The browser doesn’t actually play Flash videos straight off – videos are first transcoded on Skyfire Labs’ servers, then sent back to the browser for viewing.

The app’s popularity recently exploded, causing Skyfire’s servers to be overwhelmed. The company had no choice but to temporarily declare the browser as “Sold Out”. It’s now back on the App Store, being sold in batches.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Aside from transcoding Flash videos, the browser also features one-click sharing to Facebook and Twitter, private browsing, and user agent switching. It’s currently available at the App Store for only $2.99 (USD). As I said, the app is being sold in batches, so if it’s not available when you go to the App Store, just check back later. The browser is also available in other platforms, including Android and Windows Mobile. Check out Skyfire Labs’ website for more info.

The success that Apple has had with the iPad means that just about every maker of gadgets out there that can build a tablet wants one on the market. The latest iPad competitor to land is from RIM and is called the Blackberry PlayBook. I can’t decide if it’s a bag of fail or has a chance, I suspect fail, given the success rate of tablets other than the iPad, but who knows for sure?

The Playbook is described as a professional-grade tablet and promises power and performance for the web. The tablet has a 7-inch screen that is high resolution and uses a 1GHz dual-core processor. The thing runs BlackBerry’s proprietary Tablet OS and supports HTML5, Adobe Flash 10.1, Adobe AIR and Java apps.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The tablet can pair with Blackberry smartphones and is ready out of the box for Blackberry Enterprise Server use. The screen resolution is 1024 x 600 and it has 1GB of RAM. Other features include a 3MP front camera and 5MP rear with 1080p HD video recording. It also has an HDMI output, 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, and more.

Availability is set for early 2011 at an undisclosed price. Both 3G and 4G versions of the PlayBook will be offered at some point.

While a lot of games probably started out with just a sketch of a landscape or of the main character, I doubt there’s many games out there where its cover art inspired the actual game. But that’s exactly what the members of TIGSource did, turning Famicase art into actual games. For those of you not familiar with Famicase (JP), it’s an annual exhibition held in Japan, where designers make up cover art for fictional Famicom (NES) games. Now we’ve come full circle. Take this cover for example:

The German blurb on the lower right of the case says, “Let’s touch a cat! And make some friends!” Not exactly your everyday game idea is it? And yet here it is, a game about trying to touch a cat:

To be honest with you I can’t quite figure out the rules of the game, but I am enjoying the music. Here’s one more, a candidate for Best Video Game Title Ever:

I bet you my future children that the person who made the Famicase art for Color Space Beaver never thought that the game would actually be made. You can find all of these games at the home page for A Game By Its Cover, which as you may have guessed is all about making games inspired by art (thus, not all games there are from Famicase). Fortunately for us, we can play or even download all of the games for free! Just look for the individual links or the torrent link to download them all. God bless indie developers and their weird tastes.

In the world of Sanctuary, after every battle, whether it be against lowly Fallen or the Lord of Terror himself, you will find that warriors will pause, they will just stand there in the middle of the bloodbath. Some take but a second, others longer, but this post-battle ritual is always observed, their brows furrowed by worry and focus. No, these fighters, each with weapons and skills that can wipe out battalions, are not praying for the souls of the vanquished. The warriors of Sanctuary pause after every battle to sort out the freaking inventory, with its abysmal interface and all too limited space, while all around them the ground is littered with gleaming items with their colored names, taunting the warrior, until at last they concede: “I can’t carry anymore.” The sadistic geniuses at Smasch Inc. saw it fit to share the nightmarish task with the rest of the world with Diablo Tetris.

At first it may seem that the game is easy, because you usually don’t have to rotate the items. But true to its roots, this game has diabolical rules. Are you brave (or bored) enough?

Check out Diablo Tetris at XY Games. You can even download the game – if you hate yourself that much. And to Blizzard – I know you guys are busy coming up with new awesome stuff like the Monk and the Wizard, but please assign some of your best employees to come up with a better inventory system for Diablo III.

He does like Hot Wheels cars though and has collected them since he was really young. Occasionally, I will find one crushed outside that was in some sort of horrendous accident according to him.

He really digs these cool Flash Rods that come from the infamous Dave of toilet cart fame. Dave takes a normal Hot Wheels car you can go buy at Wal-Mart and then turns it into something extra geeky. He opens the cars up and crams 4GB of flash storage inside.

The cars are sealed back up again and the only way you know that something is different is the USB connector sticking out the back of the car. You can pick just about any car you can think of and each one is handmade with a price of $25 (USD).
