One of my favorite scenes from The Empire Strikes Back is when Luke gets captured by the Wampa and is hanging upside-down from the ceiling of his icy cave. He then uses the Force to pull his lightsaber towards his hand, then slices himself down from the ceiling and proceeds to slash off one of the furry creature’s arms. Here’s that scene, recreated in CAKE form. What’s not to like?

The Planet Hoth Wampa Cake was created by Jill from Kitchen Fun with My 3 Sons to celebrate her son’s 6th birthday. I sure hope that he knows what a wampa is at his age, so he can fully appreciate its awesomeness. The cake perfectly captures the Wampa’s ice cave, replacing the frozen bits with cookie frosting and white chocolate. The walls of the lair are made primarily from pretzel rods and graham crackers, with a cake forming the floor. Yum, I like sweet and salty together.

While Luke, his lightsaber and the wampa are just off-the-shelf action figures, it still looks great – though I would have liked to chomp on a bit of wampa arm if given the opportunity.

It was made by JB Cada and Stephanie Santos of Regali Kitchen (who also made that awesome Game of Thrones cake.) Voyager actually lights up and is edible except for the illuminated part. The rest is completely edible, including the crew. A woman named Maya commissioned for her husband on their 11th wedding anniversary. It beats a cake from the replicator any day.

This delicious treat is dark chocolate with light caramel frosting. I’m sure it was enjoyed on their special day. Happy anniversary Maya and Barry. Live long and prosper.

Mmmm… all geeks can appreciate a good slab of meat. While bacon is usually the first choice among us techies, and bacon plus cheese plus bacon is a close second, sausage is always appreciated at my annual Tetris/Cosplay/Steampunk/Apple fest. (Yes, I have one of those, and no, you’re not invited. This is the internet – for all I know, you could be an evil cat who feeds on happiness. Like most cats.) The Cupcakewurst combines the best of the best into one delicious treat: sausage casing filled with baked cupcake batter, put on a sliced open Long John, and topped with raspberry jelly.

At first look, this seems to be pretty disgusting. At second look, it seems to be still disgusting, and I am beginning to wonder whether or not I would eat it. Perhaps if we had this same setup, except without the animal parts covering my cupcake, then we’d be okay. Bacon frosting was one thing, but cupcake-filled sausages? This might be too delicious for <del>my weak stomach</del> mankind to handle. UP THE VOMIT BAG MANUFACTURING BY 200%! OCCUPY WALLSTREET!

Stef of Cupcake Project makes these beauties by pouring a bunch of chocolate cupcake batter into animal intestines, and then putting them on a grill. (Yep.) Ah, what the heck – I’d buy twenty, just because I like to support the geeks who are out there trying to come up with amazing food combinations. And, hey – who knows – maybe these are delicious! It’s kind of difficult, with the current technology, to taste things via the internet. It’s much easier to walk around and then lick your shoes in order to find out what the ground had stuck to it. *Licks shoe*

If you are a fan of the cupcakewurst treat, then you’ll want to check out the Meaty Mona Lisa and the Automatic Cupcake Vending Machine.

At first glance, the Ewok Cake looks adorable! It’s wearing its adorable hood, and its body is covered in adorable fur-like frosting. Then, you take a longer look and realize that this is in fact only the top half of an Ewok. But, cakes are usually just portions of a character, so this isn’t extremely out of place. Finally, your eyes move to its face, and you see eyes that just suck the light out of the room. That’s when you call for a change of undies and go visit a different booth at the cake fair.

While I may personally find the eyes disturbing, many others have found them to be adorable. I’m fine with whichever decision you choose to make, just know that when it comes time to <del>eating people because we ran out of chocolate bars</del> voting people off of the island, you’re my first pick. “Where are you going to vote me to, you moron? We’re stuck on an island. This isn’t Survivor.” I see your point… we’ll have to feed you to the large gorillas that I saw roaming the cliffside, then.

Though we might be able to agree that the Ewok Cake is slightly disturbing, nobody can argue with its accuracy and detail. Bake a couple hundred of these and we can make a new Star Wars movie based off of the social class struggles of the Ewoks. It’ll be the next Scarlet Letter, the next Uncle Tom’s Cabin. This is going to be huge! Even if it’s horrible, just saying that it’s a commentary on society makes it very sophisticated and famous. Everything I just said: summary of what I learned in all of my english classes. Also, Shakespeare is more risque than you might think.

If you love this Ewok Cake, then you’ll want to look at some other Star Wars baked goods.

Bacon pie is not exactly what it sounds like. At all. There is no “pie” involved in this wonderfully delicious creation, only bacon. And cheese. And more bacon. Not going to lie, this looks as appetizing as anything I’ve ever seen, but it also looks like more than a couple of bites would send me to the hospital. The bacon pie is a giant slab of weaved bacon, a ton of cheese and bacon strips, and another giant slab of weaved bacon. I think there should be some kind of prize for anyone who can eat an entire pie in one sitting and not vomit all over the kitchen. “$50 and I’ll do it.”

Mmmm… the bacon pie… in all of its greasy glory. This was created by a guy named Chris Kelly, and he has some instructions on his website that I will link later to in the post. The recipe calls for a ton of bacon, a ton of cheese, and a cup. “Why the cup?” Read on! AT DAWN, WE RIDE! *Runs into the street and gets hit by a bus* “hahaha BUS RO DAH!”

Why did I pick this seemingly boring image to put into the post? Because, if you look carefully, you can see that there is a cup in the sink. Do you know what that cup is for? “Yes.” Well, I’ll tell you anyway. The manliest of men, the manly man, the real men of the world take their bacon grease, put it in the fridge, and use it later too cook more greasy food that just isn’t greasy enough. “That’s kind of gross.” No, it’s just really manly. Pass the fried lard, please, my Spam is dry.

If you love the bacon pie, then you should probably start watching what kind of food you’re eating before you end up dead. Just a thought. Then, after you’re done dismissing my admonishment, you can check out the PorkKleen Bacon Hand Sanitizer and the Bacolicious Website Baconizing Service when you’re ready to move on.

The quality of this Skyrim Alduin birthday cake is amazing. It barely even looks like a cake. It looks more like an awesome figure that you could buy. Vera from Baking Obsession made this cake for her son’s birthday, modeled it after a sculpture from Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector’s Edition, to look just like Alduin the dragon.

The dessert was created from four 13″x18″ sheets of chocolate cake, soaked in strawberry syrup, and sandwiched with bittersweet strawberry ganache. Alduin’s core is made of modeling chocolate, which I guess is why it looks so good. It took Vera about 2 weeks just to model Alduin himself, let alone all the work on the cake part.

The scales, horns, and spikes are made from gum paste. The double-sided wings are part fondant and part gum paste. The eyes? Swarovsky crystals – so I guess you can’t eat those. This is one fierce looking cake. Great job, Vera!

This latest creation was made for her five-year old who is also a Star Wars fan. To make these yourself, you just need an apple, a marshmallow, 2 chocolate chips, peanut butter and a toothpick. Those are pretty easy to find right? The lightsabers are pretzel sticks with red and blue Fruit Roll-Ups wrapped around them.

If you’d like to make some Yapples for yourself, just head over to Yodalicious Apple Snack for Jill’s detailed directions. It’s perfect for kid’s birthdays. Adults too. Frankly, you are never too old for geeky treats.

This cake was made by JB Cada and Stephanie Santos from the Philippines-based bakery, The Regali Kitchen. It is very nicely detailed. Arya even has her sword Needle with her, ready to dispense of any foe.

It looks delicious and is made with dark chocolate cake with light caramel frosting and edible sugarpaste toppers, strawberry lemonade cupcakes and hand-painted edible toppers. The Starks may have to change the words of their house now to, “Dessert is Coming.” This cake is too geeky and pretty to eat though I would be sorely tempted.

You know those cylindrical canisters that Pringles come in? The ones that always seem like such a hassle because you can’t get more than a handful of chips every time you push your hand down the tube?

That’s exactly what the Bloom Chips packaging concept looks like, except that it comes with a very smart and useful feature: it’s also a serving bowl. Bloom Chips stretches from a canister to a bowl in seconds once the paper sleeve that keeps it closed is removed. Ingenious, right?

The designers behind the Bloom Chips are Kwon Do-hyuk, Kim Seok-woo, Seo Dong-Han, In Sung-hoonm, and Lee Bum-ho. The design was so clever that the concept won them a Red Dot Design Award.

The 3D printer that uses chocolate as its “ink” now has a name – Choc Creator – and a price. As far as I’m concerned it’s a machine that dispenses chocolate, and that’s good enough for me. I don’t need chocolate to come in fancy shapes. Just print it directly onto my mouth.

Although it sounds like a delightful device made of pure imagination, come with me… and you’ll be… in a world of pure disappointment…ation. Unfortunately, Choc Creator is painfully slow:

Compounding its impracticality is its price: the Choc Creator costs £2,488 (~$4,000 USD). That’s without Oompa Loompas. Ridiculous! Ridiculous I say! But if you really want to be on the cutting edge of confectionery, head to Choc Edge’s website to reserve your own Choc Creator.

Genetically-modified foods are becoming more common as world crop production falls while the population continues to balloon.

Scientists say they’re completely safe, but if you’re not comfortable with chomping down food that’s partially laboratory-made, then you might find the Elephant Nose concept interesting.

It’s a small, pen-shaped device that “smells” your food for the presence of any genetically modified organisms. Its designer, Junhyun Kim, explains: “Many people are concerned about the health effects associated with the consumption of GMOs. Elephant Nose was designed to identify the state of foods (GMO/natural, fresh/stale, and so on) using artificial nose technology.”

Information about the food is then flashed on the Elephant Nose’s display.

The device, which is also a 2011 red dot design concept winner, has huge potential. What do you think?

The Rainbow Flying Unicorn Cake was officially dubbed the “epitome of awesomeness” by me and my committee of official members. My official committee members, me, myself, and I, were all hand-picked by my ego. My favorite type of flower? Narcissus. I also own a four bedroom, three bath, seventy two mirror home. ”The only reason we’re putting up with you is to learn about the flying rainbow unicorn.” And the list goes on…

You know that old saying, “I’ll listen to you when <del>pigs</del> rainbow unicorns fly?” Well, it applies perfectly here, because this means that all of you have to start obeying my iron-fisted commands. By the way, these iron fists of mine are really going to give me some great arm strength, which will only cement my hold on the impoverished country over which I reign. “Why such the egotistic today?” Because it’s my birthday, and I will cry if I want to.

If you are observant, you have noticed that the Rainbow Flying Unicorn Cake has six legs. Well, actually, there is a smaller offspring of the unicorn sheltering under it’s mother – the picture below should clear things up.

If you are falling in love with the Rainbow Flying Unicorn Cake, don’t, because I bet someone has already stuffed their face with it. If you enjoy looking at this geeky cake almost as much as you enjoy staring at me during Spanish class, then you’ll want to check out some other geeky cakes like the Stay Puft Ghostbusters Cake and the Lickable Wallpaper That Tastes Like Cake. ”That’s not cake, that’s wallpaper.” Has the word cake in it, so I don’t care.

This post is titled the world’s first lickable wallpaper, but most of us know that we can just lick normal wallpaper just as easily. The only difference is it tastes like nothing and you have a smaller chance of getting a disease. Why? Because nobody licks normal wallpaper. This new lickable, cake-flavored wallpaper that can be found in a London elevator? Everybody licks that, and you know some of those people have diseases.

By now, if you’re not satisfied with living in mystery, you’re wondering why there is cake-flavored wallpaper in an elevator. (Or you’re wondering why there isn’t cake-flavored wallpaper in your workplace, but that answer is for a different time.) Mcvitie’s Jaffa Cakes, which I have never heard of before, decided to take their advertising scheme to a new level of awesomeness. What better way to sell their cakes than to have people sample them by licking a wall? ”What?” Yeah… I’m kind of thinking that there are a lot of better ways to sell people your food, but hey – they got me to write a post about them, didn’t they. ”GULLIBLE.”

If that woman knew how many people have licked that wall, she would probably think twice. Or lay down and lick the one on the very bottom, since nobody will have been down there. “Or everybody else had the same idea, and she would be better off licking at a standard height.” Maybe she would be better off just keeping her tongue off of the wall.

If you love the lickable wallpaper, you’ll want to check out the LEGO Cake and the Giant Peep Cake, since both of those things are edible, you food monger.

Like ice cream, but don’t have a freezer or cooler handy to keep it from melting? Despite the frigid temperatures outside their space ships, astronauts face the same dilemma. Hence, the existence of freeze-dried ice cream for astronauts.

The guys over at Vat19 are now stocking three different types of astronauts ice cream, including AstroRox, which are like freeze-dried Dippin’ Dots, and two varieties of ice cream sandwich. While I’d fully expect that astronaut ice cream would look like Dippin’ Dots, the fully-formed, ice cream sammies are a surprise to me. They look just like they do when frozen, but you can eat them without refrigeration, and they never melt. Keep in mind that since they’re freeze-dried, they’re pretty fragile, so don’t go tossing them around unless you want to end up with ice cream shard-wiches.

While I haven’t personally tasted any of these, they are made using real ice cream ingredients, and I’ve been told they actually taste pretty decent (at least in a pinch). The AstroRox taste like neopolitan ice cream, while the ice cream sandwiches come in vanilla or cookies and creme flavors. What, no Cherry Garcia or Chunky Monkey? Damn. Still, I’m pretty sure Ben & Jerry’s doesn’t have a 3 year shelf life like these do. At least I now have something I’d actually eat in my zombie-proof shelter.

Wanna try them out for yourself? Head on over to Vat19 now. AstroRox sell for $3.50(USD) a pack, while the ice cream sandwiches go for $2.99 each.

I love a good hand-rolled sushi roll as much as the next person, but I can only imagine that making hundreds of rolls of sushi every hour can be an exhausting and difficult experience for the chefs behind the sushi bar. Well, the Japanese have a solution for this – sushi-making robots!

The Suzomo SVR line of SushiBots can crank out up to 280 to 400 rolls of norimaki in an hour, taking ingredients and rolling out a perfect square roll.

As you can see in the video clips, it’s not like it can do all of the slicing and precision knife-work that a qualified sushi chef can pull off, but it can take care of laying out the rice and the precise rolling part. In addition to the norimaki machine, Suzomo offers the TRS-FMA robot, which can crank out up to 3300 pieces of shari sushi rice every hour:

From the looks of things, Suzomo offers quite a range of robotic systems for mass-production of sushi. Would you eat sushi that came from a robot, or do you require that humans prepare all your food?

Peeps are one of my guilty pleasures. There’s just something so delicious about sugar-coated marshmallow chicks and bunnies that I think they should make them year-round. So when I saw this Peep cake over on Instructables, I just about died (from both its awesomeness and a sugar coma.)

The Giant Peep Cake was created by Schoochmaroo, Instructables’ Food and Living channel editor. 200 times the size of a normal Peep chick, it’s made from cake, marshmallow and colored sugar itself. But the best part is what happens when you cut into it…

I bet you’re expecting some delicious marshmallow layer cake inside, right? Well get a load of this horror show!…

Cut it open, and it’s like the Peeps version of the Flood from Halo. Or maybe that’s really how Peeps are born – via C-section – and The New York Times are liars.

Harem pants are one fashion trend that I don’t see myself following anytime soon. They’re tricky, that much I can say: they look fantastic on the right people, but you might as well be wearing pajamas if you can’t pull it off.

That said, there’s no way I’d risk becoming a fashion pariah by donning these pants on, unless they’re the Pic Nic Pants that incorporates another pretty nifty use into these garments.

Aside from being clownish-looking pants, each pair also serves as a table – albeit a soft one – that you can use to eat dinner from.

The picture explains it all, I suppose. The pants aren’t being commercially produced yet. As far as I know, they’re just a concept design by Italian design company Acquacalda.

Fashion imposes forms to whom finding a function seems a must. Pic Nic pants take advantage of the usual cross-legged position to become a comfortable surface useful for the consumption of a meal outdoors. Laterally pants have an orientable pocket for drinks.

Not high in my record books for looks, but the Pic Nic pants definitely score a ten for ingenuity.

I think making better ice cream is science we can all get behind – unless you’re lactose intolerant. Researchers at the Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research in Davos, Switzerland are working with Nestlé to devise better tasting ice cream. The Institute is using its high-tech equipment typically used for learning more about avalanches to make our frosty treats taste better.

The scientists are using a technique that they use when studying ice crystal formation in avalanches to figure out why ice cream loses flavor and texture after sitting in the freezer too long. The key bit of tech used to hone ice cream to a creamy and freezing point is an x-ray machine. The machine allows the scientists to look closer into the structure of ice cream than ever before.

How creamy and tasty ice cream is depends on the size and shape of the ice crystals. Apparently the larger the ice crystals are, the chewier and less tasty the ice cream is to eat according to the researchers. We already knew that the quicker you can freeze ice cream, the creamier it is thanks to smaller ice crystals. Part of the reason ice cream doesn’t taste as good after a while is blamed on our freezers that can fluctuate a few degrees in either direction. That slight temperature fluctuation allows part of the ice cream to melt and then refreeze causing a loss of flavor and texture. The goal of the study is to create ice cream better able to withstand fluctuations in temperature.

I don’t know who the guy or gal over at Red Tomato Pizza corporate headquarters who came up with idea for this magnet is, but this person deserves a spot on the Board of Directors. Red Tomato Pizza has possibly the most awesome use of Bluetooth technology ever. This little magnet looks like a pizza box and when you flip up the top and press the button a fresh hot pizza is baked up and sent out without you having to do anything else.

That is so awesome. When you first get the sweet little magnet; you have to pair it to your mobile phone. After the pairing process is complete, you go to the pizza joints website and pick your favorite pie. Once that’s done you fancy magnet is ready to use.

All you have to do is walk up and push that magnet button and your pizza will be there before you know it. The downside is that I can totally see my kids pressing the pizza button on a whim and ordering up a pizza every five minutes. If you live in place where there tends to be a lot of drunkards about you will likely run into a similar issue, so you may want to hide your magnet.

The downside is that this fancy magnet is only available in Dubai. I hope this device is offered from all pizza places really soon.
