I’m a big fan of shooters when it comes to video games, and when you combine some science fiction and horror themes you really have my attention. This is why when Dead Space originally came out, I rushed down and purchased the game to try my hand at playing it. I’ll admit I never got used to the strange third person controls, I wished for some first-person action. Still, the game was popular and if you enjoyed playing it, EA has confirmed a new game is coming to the franchise.

EA stated this week that an official announcement is expected at E3 with the launch in EA’s current fiscal year, which ends in March 2013. EA also hinted that other new video games are coming including a new Medal of Honor and a new Need for Speed game. For now, EA isn’t offering any details on the coming video games.

Some reports are claiming that Dead Space 3 won’t be set on a spaceship and will instead be on an icy planet called Tau Volantis. Issac, the main character, is also rumored to have a split personality in this version of the game and gets taunted by himself. The split personality is supposed to be visible as a separate onscreen character.

Microsoft has announced the official launch date for the next title in Halo franchise. The next installment is Halo 4 and it will launch globally on November 6, 2012. That is just in time for the holiday season and I know a bunch of Xbox 360 gamers that will be getting this as an early present from Santa.

As mentioned before this game is being developed by 343 Industries. The game will see the return of the iconic Master Chief character. The game is set four years after the events in Halo 3 with Master Chief confronting his destiny with the fate of the universe in his hands. Microsoft says that the game “aims to set a new standard for interactive entertainment.”

We waited a long time to see Master Chief back in a Halo game. Halo 3 was launched in 2007 and that was his last appearance. You can pre-order Halo 4 over at Amazon for $59.99(USD) now. How many of you are notifying employers now that you won’t be at work on November 6th?

We’ve been waiting patiently for the third game in the Max Payne series, and if this recently released Bullet Time demo video is anything to go by, it will be worth the wait.

It not only looks awesome, it appears to be even bloodier this time around and the effects are better. Slow-motion Bullet Time is always instantly satisfying when you are playing a game. Well, if it is done right. In Max Payne 3, you are in control as bullets fly by within an inch of your head and your opponents have no idea that you can bend time. Bullet time will also replenish based on multiple factors such as risk, skill and shot precision. Opponents not only will move in slow-motion during Bullet Time fire, but you can see detailed injury reactions as you precisely aim for your victims.

This game looks like it should be a lot of fun when it arrives on May 15th. I can’t wait to check it out.

I’ll be honest, when I bought Mass Effect 3 I wasn’t happy that the game forced me to install Origin to be able to play the game. The last thing I want is one more memory hogging program running all the time on my computer. At least Origin had the decency to leak some images from Crysis 3 as a reward.

A large banner and small box art for Crysis 3 Limited Edition turned up on Origin today. In addition to the banner, product listings turned up for Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game. Obviously since the game isn’t available for pre-order yet, the add to cart and more info buttons weren’t working .

The images appear to be the main character we’re used to seeing firing a bow of some sort. I can see buildings in the background making it appear that the next game will be set in another urban environment. I love the Crysis series, and can’t wait for this game to come out. We don’t have long to wait to find out more, as the game is expected to be officially announced on April 16th.

Of all the Call of Duty games I have played, I really like Black Ops the best. I’ve been hoping a sequel would be announced and now some details have leaked to fulfill that dream. According to a post on the Black Ops forum which was pulled down by Activision, Black Ops 2 is said to be launching on November 6 of this year. That is certainly some good news for geeks looking to get new video games for Christmas.

The game promises a highly-improved single player game and more focus on Hardcore mode. One of one the modes supposedly being added to the game is called Escort with two modes from the previous game carrying over including Drop Zone and Kill Confirmed. A couple of modes are rumored to be getting cut from the game including Team Defender and Infected.

Other tips include that there will be 15 prestiges over 50 ranks with the maximum prestige level of 90. You can check out the full list of rumored Black Ops 2 features over on CVG. November 6 is a long time to wait, I hope the game doesn’t end up getting delayed and is at least as good as the original. Are you looking forward to this game?

Developers Fatshark and Paradox just released a trailer for the upcoming game War of the Roses. I was sold on this game as soon as I saw the guy getting stabbed in the eye. The game is currently being developed and it is like a first person shooter that is also historical.

While the title might make you think of a 1980s movie, this game takes place in the civil war era of 15th century England, which is known as the War of the Roses. It’s a war between the two rival branches of the Royal House of Plantagenet: House of Lancaster and the House of York.

War of the Roses should be available for the PC later this year. I think it looks promising if you like the medieval era and first-person shooters and I do. So far the graphics look pretty gorgeous too. Hopefully the gameplay is great as well.

I’m very much looking forward to the next installment in the BioShock series. The third game in the series is being developed by Irrational Games and will be published by 2K Games. The game is called BioShock Infinite and game creator Ken Levine recently offered up some words to the guys at Kotaku to stoke your geek lust until the game launches in October of 2012.

According to Levine, Infinite will give gamers choices when they play which affect the storyline in the game.

I don’t want to present it as sort of a BioWare-level, radical reimagining of the universe that you can do by making story choices,” “But there are gonna be some changes.” “Everything you do has deadly consequences.

As previously revealed, the game will put the player in the shoes of an ex-Pinkerton agent named Booker DeWitt. His primary objective is to rescue a girl named Elizabeth, but it’s not a giant escort mission – Elizabeth has serious powers of her own. The game also takes place in the aerial city of Columbia, a dramatic change of scenery from the underwater world of Rapture for sure.

It’s not clear how much you’ll be able to influence the Bioshock:Infinite storyline through your actions, but its presumably more than just whether or not you harvest EVE from Little Sisters this time.

And now we have an official trailer, which shows us that the tomahawk that Ratohnaké:ton is carrying is not just for decoration.

From the look of things there, is plenty of tomahawk killing action. The trailer also shows our new Indian main character racing through the snowy woods as George Washington rallies the troops, plenty of redcoats dying by tomahawk and lots of running and jumping. The new scenery is a welcome change and it all looks great.

The game will be released on October 30th, and you can pre-order it over on Amazon now. I’m looking forward to this one since I love history. Hopefully at least some of this game turns out to be historically accurate. Mostly I just want to kill some evil redcoats with tomahawks, though.

Halo 4, the next game the popular FPS franchise is due to land later this year. This will be the first game in the Halo franchise to be developed with no input from Bungie. Microsoft pulled the development duties from Bungie and brought to a team called 343 Industries. 343 has recently been talking about Halo 4, which will see the return of Master Chief who was absent for the last couple games in the series.

The new development team says that it will follow the same mold as previous games, but that Halo 4 will have a darker tone and will delve into the human side of Master Chief. Considering Master Chief is a war machine, I’m curious to see what sort of humanity remains. Creative director Josh Holmes does note that the team will keep the essence of Halo’s identity, even though the game will be much darker and more grounded in realism.

“We really want to give ourselves the freedom to take risks and drive things forward in a way that goes beyond anything that people have experienced before with the Halo franchise,” said Halo 4 creative director Josh Holmes.

I’m not sure how to feel about a departure from tradition in the Halo franchise. 343 needs to be careful to honor the franchise while updating and improving upon it. The game is very near and dear to its fans. It’s also the reason many people bought an Xbox (and Xbox 360) to begin with.

I am a sucker for movies that show the end of days after disaster, zombies, war or whatever. What would happen, and how the survivors would go on after we were most of us were gone has always been intriguing to me. Plus, The Walking Dead has me totally hooked on the post-apocalyptic zombie genre. This is why I can’t wait to play The Last of Us.

This game already looks so awesome – and we have a right to expect it to be, since it comes from Naughty Dog, the same guys behind the stellar Uncharted and Crash Bandicoot series. The game puts players in the post-apocalyptic world trying to survive and fight off other survivors that want them dead. Apparently, Some sort of infection killed off most of humanity, but that’s about all we know. Players and enemies can use old vehicles, guns, melee weapons, and anything else they can find to dominate the landscape.

It looks like it’s a game of kill or be killed in which you must collect the things you need to survive. Melee gameplay will be critical, but there’s definitely a gunplay element too. The early screenshots here are from actual gameplay, and they look great.

Between the graphics, the story and the developer’s track record, it looks like this will be one of the coolest games of the year – even if it doesn’t come out until the last day of 2012.

…and in case you missed the VGA preview teaser for the game, here it is:

And you can check out the full hi-res screenshots over on Flickr. Drool.

I know that many of you are looking forward to the release of the I Am Alive game, which launches on March 7th. Now we can get a look at the game thanks to this new making of video, which shows some gameplay scenes and the story line. It looks pretty solid.

The downloadable game is being developed by Ubisoft Shanghai and will be published by Ubisoft. The setting is a post-apocalyptic world. Specifically, the fictional American city of Haventon, one year after The Event. Or to quote the developers, “I Am Alive focuses on facing the permanent insecurity of a now decaying and hazardous world, and humanity’s darkest inclinations.” If that sounds like your kind of game, you should enjoy this one.

The graphics and atmosphere in this post-apocalyptic survival game look pretty amazing. Your character is portrayed in third-person perspective while you are moving, and first-person when aiming and shooting weapons, along with some of the climbing and jumping elements of platformer. Gameplay is much more strategic than your typical FPS, and you need to be very careful about how to use your weapons and limited ammo.

I Am Alive will be available to download on March 7th for just $15(USD) on the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Store.

The makers of Guncraft promise an intense, multiplayer-based, first-person shooter with a completely customizable, cube-based building game. Developer Exato Games are hoping to release the beta for PCs in March, with a full launch in June. This game looks like it actually has a ton of potential. Check out the trailer:

At the time of this writing, their Kickstarter project has raised more than $2,000(USD) of their $16,000 goal. I think they are going to make it – and you can help. Hit the Kickstarter page for details about what rewards you get for your contribution. A pledge of $15 or more gets you a copy of the game.

Resident Evil fans have been waiting for the launch of the upcoming Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City game and now a new trailer has been released to show you more details of the gameplay. Spoiler alert! There are zombies! Lots of them!

The Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City gameplay shown here illustrates the need for team work, with four team members working together to defeat the infected. It looks pretty intense and it may even add some a little something new to the franchise. It should be some hectic and brutal action.

The game takes place during the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. It’s set in Raccoon City, where all of the people have been turned into zombies after the T-virus outbreak. And as you can see from the trailer, you will have to splatter more than a few heads. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is coming our way on March 20th for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, and can be pre-ordered over on Amazon now.

This Launch Date announcement trailer is sick! Like the trailer says “Get ready to joy puke your face off!” Just watch the video and you will understand. This game looks freaking amazing. There are more huge guns, more huge creatures and more ass-kicking all around. You get a new ride, new characters, new skills and a whole lot more. The game will have the campaign mode of course, along with a four-player co-op mode and split-screen.

First Person Shooters generally don’t teach you much, aside from maybe how to kill other players and get trophies. What if you could play an FPS that actually taught you how to make video games? Code Hero is an FPS that does just that. It teaches you how to program.

It’s a co-op first-person shooter where you become a programmer. The idea is to save the world from an out of control AI. You have a “code gun” that will let you copy, paste and edit JavaScript for use in the Unity 3D engine instead of firing bullets. This lets you shoot the enemy, manipulate the world around you, and build structures. Sounds intriguing doesn’t it?

This is more power than a player normally has inside the game. You start out using powerful code without needing to understand it, then over time you master that code to handle specific challenges. Sign me up. Sounds awesome. If you’re interested in getting in on the action, head over to Kickstarter and contribute to the project now.

Anyone who’s played FPS games knows that they usually require a lot of precision sniping. That’s what Shogun Bros. were thinking when they developed their latest mouse, the Ballista MK-1. It was specifically designed for the sharpshooting FPS gamer.

The reason why it’s so cool for sharpshooters is because it’s got independent X and Y DPI settings. According to Shogun Bros, these settings will allow for more stabilized targeting, which they’re calling precision sniping. There’s also a thumb selector for speed shooting, 5,700 DPI accuracy with a 1,000MHz polling rate, 11,580 FPS, and a refresh rate indicator along with 11 macro keys.

Shogun Bros. has yet to reveal the price of this mouse, but say that it should be released sometime in Q2 2012.

I just told you about The Dark Meadow game being available for the Android platform and now a new teaser trailer has been released. The trailer gives you an idea of what you will find in the game when it’s launched in early 2012 on Android.

It looks pretty much like other horror games that you’ve played before (and the iOS version), but as far as graphics, it looks pretty impressive for a mobile game. That’s probably why Android devices will need a Tegra 3 chip to enjoy this game. The creators of the game promise enhanced visuals and physics thanks to nVidia’s latest chip. It’s not clear if there are any other enhancements for Android, but they’e calling it “The Dark Meadow: Deluxe Addition (sic) for Android,” so perhaps there will be other bonuses.

As mentioned told you last time, you can already get this game for iOS devices from the iTunes App Store for $5.99(USD).The Android version will arrive in early 2012.

If you don’t game on your phone or tablet yet, now is a good time to start. The quality is getting better all of the time. The titles are also getting better, with top-notch games, not just time-wasters to play when you’re bored.

The Dark Meadow looks like just such a quality title. A survivor-horror game, that looks like it came straight from a console. Phosphor Games Studios used the Unreal Engine 3 to up the graphics and quality of the experience.

The game takes place from a first person perspective, with limited movement to keep you on the right path. You have gesture controlled melee attacks and ranged weapons to deal with the monsters in the game. Right now the game is available on iOS devices for $5.99 (USD), and it will come to Android in the first quarter of 2012.

The events in modern military FPS video games often take place in real world locations. An enterprising ad agency crossed the line and used Google Street View to create a passive first-person shooter.

Is it an example of high-tech augmented reality? Not really. Is it controversial? Nope. Distrurbing? Maybe. You can fire the assault rifle at pictures of the real world, but doing so has no consequences on the environment – no damage or deaths result. If that’s a bad thing, then we might as well ban imagination. It’s not a good mod, but let’s be honest, it’s not so evil either.

Apparently Google didn’t think the mod was cool and had the gimmick taken down. However, you can view samples of it in Mashable’s report:

It would’ve been much better if they turned it into a Portal mod instead. But that would’ve required more effort. So did the ad agency shoot itself in the foot with this gimmick? Or is bad publicity still worthwhile publicity?
