Zelda Composers’ Notes: Ocarina Not Included

These replicas of the notes from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time won’t help you summon a horse, but you can stick them on a horse. If you want to get kicked in the face, that is. So you’d be better off decorating your fridge or your clothes with them.

The buttons come in packs of 10 – 7 yellow C buttons and 3 blue A buttons – and are available as magnets or pins. Either that or someone’s invented a magnet for cloth.

Junkyard Robot PC Case Mod Dares You to Ask if It Can Play Crysis

Believe it or not, this sculpture of a robot actually houses a working computer in its body. While this doesn’t dethrone the weirdest or the prettiest case mods that I’ve seen, the man who made it says he finished the whole thing in just 2 days. I can’t even finish a bag of Lays in 2 days.

The case was made by bit-tech forum member WEHR-WOLF. He doesn’t have a name for his mod, nor did he talk about the specs or how exactly he went about making it or if he really is a werewolf. He only said that he made it from “parts of machines and tools” with a little help from “a liter of vodka.” Lucky bastard. A little help from vodka gives me vomit and regret, not a robot with a gatling gun for an arm.

Minecraft Mass Effect 3 Machinima: Mine Earth Down

The Take Earth Back trailer for Mass Effect 3 was kick ass, although in light of the controversy about how the trilogy ended some would say it was misleading. Then again, pretty much all videogame trailers are misleading. Perhaps even this machinima version of the trailer is misleading. The squid in Minecraft are not that big. Or are they? I’ve never actually played the game.

Iron Man Xbox 360 Case Mod: Blue Ring of Life

I don’t think I need to elaborate on this one. It’s just an Xbox 360 with a case expertly modded with an Iron Man theme. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to brace myself for the deluge of “Where do I get one?” comments. And by deluge I mean like 3 comments. Wait how exactly does one brace oneself? Should I hug myself? Or fix my teeth?

The mod was done by one Zachariah Perry Cruse. In case the old Xbox 360 model didn’t clue you in, Zach – can I call you Zach? – made this ages ago, 2010 A.D. to be exact. As you can see it has ~~Famicom~~ Iron Man’s colors, a 120GB hard drive marked ‘Stark Industries’ and its own light-up arc reactor. Because this is an old model let’s just imagine that the reactor is the only thing preventing the console from RROD’ing.

So where can you get one? From the guy who bought it. This kick-ass console was sold just a couple of days ago, which is as unbelievable as it is unfortunate for the rest of you who would’ve wanted to own one. I also saw a similar mod for the slim version of the Xbox 360 made by Major League Mods, but it seems that one’s been bought as well. I guess you’d be better off pulling a Tony Stark and make your own case mod. Or maybe not.

Custom Zelda: Twilight Princess Shoes: It’s Dangerous to Walk Barefoot, Take These!

…or any other footwear. Walking barefoot can be quite dangerous. But not as dangerous as a walking bear foot. But that’s a fake topic for another fake day. Right now we’re looking at a pair of Vans slip-ons painted with the Hylian shield design from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

These shoes were made by KyozoKicks, maker of custom footwear with art from games such as Phoenix Wright, Minecraft, Okami, Sonic and more. I actually like all of those more than this design, but unfortunately KyozoKicks isn’t selling those anymore.

The Twilight Princess Vans slip-ons are indeed for sale, but you better have a link to a fat wallet to cop a pair, because KyozoKicks is selling them for the grass-slashing, pot-breaking, chicken-throwing price of $195(USD).

Nintendo Characters as Ukiyo Woodblock Prints: Very Creepy Turtles

Nintendo Characters are awesome, and Japanese representations of things are awesome, so why not combine the two? “Nintendo Characters are Japanese.” Not like this – a guy named Jed has decided to make Ukiyo Woodblock Prints showing all of his favorite Nintendo characters as they appeared back in the age of dragons and those round hats with the carts that were pulled in the streets. This just in: ethnocentrism is not a rampant issue in today’s society, we are educated about other countries and their cultures. Germany: Audi. Japan: Nintendo. Italy: pasta. Lots and lots of pasta.

This is one of the first Ukiyo pieces that Jed created, and it depicts our favorite wore-green-every-day-until-he-was-seventeen hero: Link. I particularly like how the Master Sword was redone – still recognizable, but not the same. Overall, a good mashup of ancient Japan and the Legend of Zelda in this wooden print.

I like the Samus ukiyo print more than the Link one simply because there’s an explosion and more women. The dragon was definitely a smart way to pull off the fact that Samus shoots electric balls of death all of the time. To see all of the prints, go to the newly-created Ukiyo-Nintendo Facebook page.

Above is the newly released ukiyo sketch of Mario Kart, which is just a draft that was just posted on the Facebook page – he’ll add color, among other things. I wanted to share it though, because the Koopa and the squid were too good not to put into the post. Creepy turtles!

Videogame Ear Plugs Almost Make Me Want to Get My Ears Pierced

…but because I’m fine with my body’s aerodynamics as it is, I think I’ll just admire these plugs from a distance. No actually it’s because my tolerance for pain is so low – in fact I’m crying right now because of the terrible pain induced by typing. How can anyone endure this?!

These ear plugs were made by deviantART member Marcus Hermansson. For those of you interested, unfortunately he’s not interested in selling them. Maybe you can one-up him and plug actual parts from consoles into your lobes. +1 if you can fit an entire console in there.

Iron Man Cufflinks Assemble Your Shirt Sleeves

You were amazed at Iron Man’s transforming suitcase in Iron Man 2. You were surprised by his transforming… pod thing in The Avengers. Now, behold: Iron Man cufflinks. What’s that? No, they don’t transform. But I’ll let you in on a trade secret: neither did the suitcase and that pod thing! It’s all smoke and mirrors! Special and effects!

These cufflinks are made from gold-plated copper. Even though it kinda looks like it, I don’t think Shellhead’s eyes are actually glowing in these cufflinks. It’s probably just clever paint job, but that’d be cool if they did.

Tesla Gun Fires Lightning Bolts: Coil Your Mind Around This

Many works of fiction as well as videogames feature weapons that shoot bolts of lightning to devastating effect. The closest thing we have to these weapons is the Tesla coil, a device that produces high voltage, low current electricity. The thing is, Tesla coils are mostly in the form of large, stationary devices. Until now.

The Tesla Gun is the creation of mad scientist Rob Flickenger, who based it on a weapon used by none other than Nikola Tesla in the graphical novel The Five Fists of Science. You can see the fictional gun on page 14 of this pdf file. Flickenger admits that the gun that Tesla wields in the novel is far more advanced than what he made, but his gun has two advantages: it is battery-powered, and more importantly it exists.

So how does it work? “You pull the trigger, and lightning comes out the front.” It’s that simple.

Actually it’s not that simple. Flickenger went to great lengths to create the gun, including making an aluminum housing molded from a Nerf gun, a porcelain high voltage switch and a power supply that steps up the voltage from a drill battery from 18V to 20,000V. There’s more to it than that, but I think most of you just want to see it in action. Here you go.

Like most Tesla coils, Flickenger built his gun for entertainment and science, not as a weapon or a mere toy. If you’re as mad, talented and responsible as Flickenger, you can try building your own Tesla Gun using the information that he posted on his website.

Iron Man Dunk High Sneakers are Hard to Assemble

You may have already seen and drooled at those Iron Man and War Machine sneakers from a couple of years ago, but this pair may just make your heart burst, because it comes with a replica of the arc reactor from the Iron Man movies.

Made by MoreThanArtToWear, these modified Nike Dunk High sneakers are packed with Iron Men. They’ve got the crimson and gold colors locked down, an Iron Man lace accessory on each shoe, Iron Man’s mask painted on the heels and a mini-arc reactor on the tongue. That’s not all: the shoes come in a suitcase similar to the Mark V armor seen in Iron Man 2. Finally, there’s a replica of the arc reactor inside the suitcase that you can detach and place on your chest or wherever you fancy. The shoes have built-in batteries to power the lights. Sadly they don’t have jets. At least not yet.

Now for the bad news: the shoes cost $750 (USD) to make. Now for the badder news: due to high demand, MoreThanArtToWear has temporarily stopped taking orders for them. Now for the baddest news: Guys, once and for all, I do not have the plans for this arc reactor replica. This guy does. Not me.

Man Eats Own (Chocolate) Brain

If you ate your own brain, what does that make you? A zombie cannibal? A short-lived Hannibal? An attraction at a goth carnival? Or just dead? Fortunately Andy Millns will not be burdened with any of those associations, because he only ate a piece of chocolate cast from a mold made from a 3D print made from an MRI of his own brain. Which makes him a geek.

The cranial confectionery was the brainchild of 3D tech company Inition. I’ve already outlined the steps above, but in case you need something that makes more sense, watch the video below:

They would’ve skipped a couple of steps if they just used this 3D printer instead, although I guess it would take way longer. Inition also put up an Instructable for those interested in eating chocolate brain, including an MRI file containing a scan of Millns’ brain. I can’t decide which is weirder: eating a chocolate brain based on another person’s brain or one that’s based on your own brain. Or that Chocolate Rain song.

Nintendo Game Boy Watch: Because the Actual Game Boy Didn’t Have a Clock Function

Today’s handheld videogame systems all have built-in clocks, but if you want to see the time on a Game Boy the closest you can get is the Watch Boy, an official Nintendo merchandise released back in the 90s. The design of the watch is unabashedly childish, which is why it’s awesome.

Despite the fact that it’s a wristwatch, I think the time-telling function of the Watch Boy is just a bonus. You’ll look at it not to figure out the present but to remember the past.

The Watch Boy is no longer in production, adding to its appeal to collectors and gamers alike. It’s not surprising then that a seller on eBay is asking for at least $100 (USD) for his Watch Boy, and the price will keep going up until the auction ends on May 19th. That’s a ridiculous price for a plastic and rubber wristwatch, but I say it’s worth it.

Ewok Cake Has Cute and Fuzzy Body, Eyes That Look Like Abysses of Despair

At first glance, the Ewok Cake looks adorable! It’s wearing its adorable hood, and its body is covered in adorable fur-like frosting. Then, you take a longer look and realize that this is in fact only the top half of an Ewok. But, cakes are usually just portions of a character, so this isn’t extremely out of place. Finally, your eyes move to its face, and you see eyes that just suck the light out of the room. That’s when you call for a change of undies and go visit a different booth at the cake fair.

While I may personally find the eyes disturbing, many others have found them to be adorable. I’m fine with whichever decision you choose to make, just know that when it comes time to ~~eating people because we ran out of chocolate bars~~ voting people off of the island, you’re my first pick. “Where are you going to vote me to, you moron? We’re stuck on an island. This isn’t Survivor.” I see your point… we’ll have to feed you to the large gorillas that I saw roaming the cliffside, then.

Though we might be able to agree that the Ewok Cake is slightly disturbing, nobody can argue with its accuracy and detail. Bake a couple hundred of these and we can make a new Star Wars movie based off of the social class struggles of the Ewoks. It’ll be the next Scarlet Letter, the next Uncle Tom’s Cabin. This is going to be huge! Even if it’s horrible, just saying that it’s a commentary on society makes it very sophisticated and famous. Everything I just said: summary of what I learned in all of my english classes. Also, Shakespeare is more risque than you might think.

Bacon Pie Consists of Bacon, Cheese, Deliciousness, and Heart Attacks

Bacon pie is not exactly what it sounds like. At all. There is no “pie” involved in this wonderfully delicious creation, only bacon. And cheese. And more bacon. Not going to lie, this looks as appetizing as anything I’ve ever seen, but it also looks like more than a couple of bites would send me to the hospital. The bacon pie is a giant slab of weaved bacon, a ton of cheese and bacon strips, and another giant slab of weaved bacon. I think there should be some kind of prize for anyone who can eat an entire pie in one sitting and not vomit all over the kitchen. “$50 and I’ll do it.”

Mmmm… the bacon pie… in all of its greasy glory. This was created by a guy named Chris Kelly, and he has some instructions on his website that I will link later to in the post. The recipe calls for a ton of bacon, a ton of cheese, and a cup. “Why the cup?” Read on! AT DAWN, WE RIDE! *Runs into the street and gets hit by a bus* “hahaha BUS RO DAH!”

Why did I pick this seemingly boring image to put into the post? Because, if you look carefully, you can see that there is a cup in the sink. Do you know what that cup is for? “Yes.” Well, I’ll tell you anyway. The manliest of men, the manly man, the real men of the world take their bacon grease, put it in the fridge, and use it later too cook more greasy food that just isn’t greasy enough. “That’s kind of gross.” No, it’s just really manly. Pass the fried lard, please, my Spam is dry.

If you love the bacon pie, then you should probably start watching what kind of food you’re eating before you end up dead. Just a thought. Life-Size Avengers Weapons (and a Shield) Assembled out of LEGO

LEGO enthusiast and Avengers fan Ken Robichaud made replicas of some of the weapons of the Avengers using LEGO. They’re 1:1 scale, meaning he can wield them and use them for cosplay. Although because of their material it’s all too easy to go Hulk smash on them.

I think his most impressive piece is Cap’s shield, although the bow and arrow set is quite the feat too. It’s disappointing that Robichaud wasn’t able to make a LEGO Iron Man suit, but it’s not like that’s easy to make.

Minecraft in Minecraft: The Inevitable Has Occurred

The last time I posted about a Minecraft map that recreates another videogame I said I couldn’t wait for Minecraft: Minecraft. And now it’s here, albeit with a different name: Mineception. It’s also more primitive than I expected, although in hindsight I didn’t really have an idea of what Minecraft in Minecraft would look like. Man this post is so search engine optimized.

Made by codecrafted, Mineception has two major parts: a virtual map where you see the tiny version of Minecraft and a control interface for selecting blocks, building and jumping. From what I can tell every action save for moving needs to be done by pressing a button on the control interface, then looking down on the virtual map to see the action take place. Sounds tedious? The zoomed out view of the control interface redefines tedious.

I feel like a caveman that just stumbled upon a space station. What the hell was that. Head to Planet Minecraft to download the map. Try and figure out how many Minecrafts within Minecraft you can build.

Pokemon Onesies are not unheard of – I’ve seen them on plenty of infants. But, my friends, a revolution has come. This revolution is called Pokemon Onesies for adults, and it is here to stay. At least until society judges you, but then you can just move to Japan, where you would be welcomed as a GENIUS! To be quite honest, I would like nothing more than to buy one of these and run around tackling a few of my good buddies. Also, people I don’t know, because that would be more fun.
