Lasonic I931X Gold Boombox iPod Dock: Suburb Blaster

Lasonic’s 931 TRC was one of the most popular boombox models in the late 80s. With the death of the cassette tape the company released an update on the 931 TRC called the I931X Classic, which played audio files and had an iPod dock in place of a tape deck. The I931X Limited has the exact same features as the Classic, except it has a shiny gold finish.

Aside from the iPod/iPhone dock, the I931X can play MP3 files over its two 15W speakers via USB or SD/MMC storage devices or through a device plugged into its auxiliary 3.5mm input jack. It also has an alarm clock function. So hip-hop. Thankfully, it still retains its granddaddy’s AM/FM radio function and headphone and microphone inputs. It can be powered via AC, but like all boomboxes it can also be powered by batteries.

Put on your your fingerless gloves and head to Lasonic’s Veentage to order the I931X Limited for €284 (~$366 USD). Or not; it’s currently sold out but the shop promises to have 50 more units available by the end of January. I’m sure those will sell out fast as well so keep checking that link if you really want your own unit. But if you’re willing to settle for a less shiny unit, you can always get the I931X Classic, which is slightly cheaper at €249-€269 (~$321-$347 USD).

IPod Boom Dock Turns Your iPod Into World’S Smallest Ghetto Blaster

This ridiculous looking little boom box snaps onto the bottom of your iPod, letting it belt (or is it chirp) out some fat (or is it skinny) beats.

Homade’s Boom Dock connects to your iPod’s dock connector and has a little speakers inside of it. I can’t imagine that it’ll put out anywhere near the volume you would expect from a boom box, but I guess that’s part of the point. And since it requires no batteries, you can count on especially tinny sound. You’d probably be better off sticking a pair of earbuds into a cardboard box and painting it to look like a boom box.

Still, if you’re just dying to have one of these, you can find them at Geek Stuff 4U for about $44 (USD), or if you’re fortunate enough to be in China, you can save a few bucks by ordering from Wanyi99, where the sell for only 168 Yuan (appx. $25 USD).

Boombox Bag With Built-in Speakers Doesn’T Play Cassette Tapes

As if its throwback looks weren’t flashy enough, this boombox bag also has built-in speakers. Plug in your MP3 player and you’ll really grab everyone’s attention.

Unfortunately we don’t have specs on the speakers, but judging from the picture I don’t think we can expect top-quality audio from them. The yellow-green bag pictured above was already sold out as of this writing, but you can still score the classic black version.

You can get the bag at Kitsch-U-Like for £30 (approx. $50 USD). The shop also has other retro audio player-themed bags, but no cat hats, groovy glasses or violet tracksuits. Thank God. Actually I kinda like the cat hat.

R2-D2 Boom Box: Take That at-at!

Remember the AT-AT Walker ghetto blaster? Well apparently not only the Empire gets its own boom box. This R2-D2 sound system is part of the Hype Hustle Rip-Off exhibition by artist Bill McMullen over at LA’s The Constant Gallery.
