How often have you said to yourself while typing on your computer, “gee, my hands are freezing.” Okay, unless you work in the Ice Hotel, it’s probably not that frequent of an issue. Still if you could use cold hands as an excuse to wear these, would it change your mind?

Thought so. These wouldn’t be the first gadget I’ve seen which keeps your hands warm at the computer. They’re not even the first USB handwarming mitts I’ve come across in my travels. But they are the first ones I’ve seen that look like anthropomorphic toast, and that’s good enough to warrant a purchase in my book.

When you find your fingers getting cold, just plug in the USB cable, and slip a slice of toast over each of your hands. Heck, even if you’re living in Australia and it’s summertime, you should buy a pair, just so you can look cool while surfing the web on the beach.

The USB Toast Handwarmers are available now over at ThinkGeek for $24.99 (USD) for the pair. Choose from white, wheat, sourdough, rye, pumpernickel, or an english muffin. Just kidding about that last part.

The folks over at Techno-Holics have come up with these homemade Tazer Gloves, which admittedly don’t look like much, but they pack a punch. Criminals would be sadly mistaken to think that you were just packing Altoids, but would soon find out that these Altoids tins house a neat DIY tazer.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

If you want to try your hand at this project yourself, you will need basic electronics know-how, along with some discarded disposable cameras, AA batteries, 2 Altoids tins, some dollar store dog collars, rubberized fishing gloves, 2 single pole single throw momentary switches, solder and wire. Now check out that video. There is nothing quite so beautiful as being able to touch your fingers together and create huge sparks.

“Winter is coming” might be the catchphrase of the Starks of Winterfell, but sure enough, summer’s coming to a close and before you know it, you’ll be freezing waiting for public transportation. Anyone who’s tried to use their capacitive screen gadgets with normal gloves knows that it’s doomed to failure, unless you use special gloves, like these Isotoner smarTouch. They’ll allow you to continue using your tablet or smartphone no matter how cold it gets.

These gloves come with special no-scratch conductive materials woven into the thumb and index (that negates some multitouch gestures, but it’s better than nothing), which will allow you to keep your hands warm while using your touchscreen devices. These gloves come in a variety of styles for men and women.

You’ll find Isotoner smarTouch gloves at a variety of retailers, and they cost between $15 to $33 (USD). They’re currently on sale for 25% off over at Firebox.

I grew up listening to several varying versions of Little Red Riding Hood. My favorite part was when (sort of slow-brained) Little Red notices how different her grandmother looks, who’s actually now the sneaky wolf in disguise.

Now here’s something to give your grandparents a scare – when you put on the Darkfin swim gloves. They look a bit ridiculous but I think they could really make a difference in your swimming. (Plus, I just think it’s sort of cool to have webbed appendages.)

The name of these gloves remind me of that masked, caped crusader named Darkwing Duck, for obvious reasons. (Now you have more of an idea when I was born and what era I grew up in.)

The Darkfin gloves are available in a variety of sizes, so even a child can go and start swimming like a fish, if he wants to. They’re made from durable latex so you can be sure that you can swim like a webbed creature for months and even years to come. They’re available from Firebox for $36 a pair.

This kick-ass pyro system is just a prototype, and the J&M guys say the final version of the system would be more streamlined so the hoses and cables could be hidden inside of a performer’s costume – which I can only hope would be flameproofed.

It doesn’t get cold here in Texas often, so I don’t even own a pair of gloves. My brother-in-law lived up in Minnesota for few years where going out without gloves on wasn’t good for your health. The catch for geeks in these cold areas with capacitive touchscreen devices is that the screens can’t be used when wearing most normal gloves.

These days, you can get gloves with little conductive nubs on them, but those tend to be expensive and the may not be your favorite style. Quirky has a new product that you can purchase now that adds little nubs to any pair of gloves for controlling your touchscreen device.

The nubs are called Digits and you can pick up a set of four of them right now for $13.99 (USD). The hubs are like hatpins that stick through the fabric of your gloves and have metal on the inside and conductive silicone on the outside. The silicone dots are soft so your screen won’t be scratched.

If you live in a cold environment where you have to wear gloves during the winter and fall, or work somewhere that you need gloves working devices that use a capacitive touchscreen is usually impossible. The problem is that capacitive touchscreens need the conductivity of your skin to work.

A new set of gloves called Agloves have surfaced that put the conductivity back into your touch when wearing gloves. The gloves can be washed and will work with the iPhone, iPad and another capacitive touch device.

The gloves are black in color and come in multiple sizes. They sell for $17.99 (USD) per pair and allow touching with all fingers. They can be worn as a glove alone or as a glove liner, and are designed to be worn by men or women.

This is actually a pretty cool product for glove wearers. There’s nothing worse than having to take your gloves off and get frostbite to use your gadgets in the wintertime.

It can be hard to do anything while wearing gloves, much less get directions to that new sushi place with your iPhone. Sure, you could just take off your gloves every time you need to do something, wear the fingerless variety, or just lose your “texting fingers.” But as those solutions might not always be color-coordinated with your gadgets (and might lack the Apple logo), a new design for touchscreen-friendly gloves is here to save the day.

iPhones and touch-based iPods rely on the electric impulses in human skin, so any iPhone-friendly gloves would either have to leave the fingertips bare or simulate the electricity in skin. This patent combines those approaches–sort of. The iPhone gloves are multi-layered, and the thin inner layer simulates the feedback from skin. This inner layer is covered with a heavier, warmer layer, but aperatures at the tips allow the inner layer access to the touchscreen. The design allows these aperatures to open in a variety of ways (for, I guess, different styles of gloves), from peeling back the outer glove to removable caps.

Here’s betting these gloves, if released, will be at least 10% more expensive than the inevitable flood of knock-offs. Oh, Apple. I love you so, but you hurt my wallet.

“Like all great ideas,” says Etre Touchy’s site, “Etre Touchy gloves began life as a sketch on the back of a napkin over a cup of coffee…” What’s the great idea? See, ordinary 5-fingered gloves can be had for a mere $5. So the Etre Touchy guys figured, “Hmmm… if we cut off the index and thumb fingers, we can sell the gloves for $23!” So that’s what they’re doing.

Okay so that’s not the whole story. The gloves were modified so that people with tiny gadgets can still touch, push and poke even with the gloves on. Because people don’t know how to use scissors. You should all be ashamed of yourselves for waiting for others to come up with great ideas.

I, too, have an idea. An ordinary telephone has too many numbers, which makes telephone numbers hard to memorize. What if I scrap them all except for the number 4? Then we’ll only have to remember how many 4′s there are in someone’s number! I’ll call it The Fourn. Or Fourno. Then I’ll sell it for $800! Money money money-MONEY!

Just in case you’re still living in the early 1990s and heading out to a rave this weekend, you might want to add these to your outfit before you head out onto the dance floor.

This pair of battery-powered gloves have a set of bright LEDs built into the fingertips. In addition to a brilliant blue always-on mode, the gloves can also be set to epileptic flashing or disco chase-light mode — just in case your illuminated fingertips don’t draw enough attention on their own.

Thankfully, they haven’t yet caught on, but you better not let Kanye West know about these, lest he wear them to his next (oh so humble) award acceptance speech and start some kind of trend.

If you’re really ready to wear these out in public, you can find them from France’s Lux et Deco (get it, L.E.D.?) for €29 (about $45 USD) a pair.
