The guys over at Hungarian video game site IDDQD had a little Photoshop contest to embellish other games with images of Kratos, and some of the results are priceless. While the DOOM one is probably the best one from an artistic standpoint, here are some of the more whimsical concepts:

I always wanted to see blood spew forth from those annoying Raving Rabbids- and how about Kratos playing with a different kind of axe?

I featured this funny video a while back over on The Awesomer, but realized that many of you guys never got a chance to see it.

What we have here is a brief video showing off what it might be like if God of War’s Kratos were actually a scrawny shirtless dude in his underwear, and he had to make a PB&J sandwich. Hilarity ensues…

Kratos Speed Painting: the Gods of War Approve

Watch as artist Robert Mangaoang (aka “Doom CMYK “) creates a digital illustration of Kratos from God of War 3 in this awesome time-lapse painting session he did using Photoshop CS3 and his Wacom tablet.

The authentic music from the game really puts me in the mood to dust of my game disc and play through again. Only this time in God mode. Or maybe not. I prefer functional thumbs to bloody stumps.

God of War III Nutrition Facts: Now With More Arterial Spray!

Somehow, I managed to miss the fine print on the front of the God of War III box cover.

6,004% of the U.S. RDA of disembowelments, eh? Can you ever get enough, really? And I had no idea that it had negative 130 calories a serving. I’m gonna have me a bowl of delicious Kratos as part of my daily regimen, and in no time I’ll be skinnier than Nicole Ritchie sitting in a sauna after a good purge.

God of War Kratos Blade Replica: Destroy Your Real World Enemies…

…or actually, you probably shouldn’t do that. But you still will look awfully cool walking around with this big, bad-ass GoW blade that looks just like the one Kratos slashes his enemies with.

This prop-replica of Kratos’ Blade of Chaos is cast from sturdy zinc-aluminum, and has custom etched textures to give it that war-worn look. The only thing missing is a juicy coating of blood. This beast measures in at over 20″ long, with the blade measuring in at over a foot long. The makers of the replica have also laser-etched each individual blade with its own serial number, so you know you’ve got the real deal. Of course anyone on the business-end of this thing will probably go along with whatever you say regardless of this seal of authenticity.

God of War III Slurpee Cups at 7-11: Oh Thank Heaven for Kratos

I sure loves me some God of War. Now combine that with a sugary sweet Slurpee and I’m in geek heaven. Thanks to the guys over at 7-11, I can enjoy both in a single slurp.

Starting this week, 7-11 is offering up limited edition collectible God of War III plastic cups for their frozen slushy drinks. And they’re also offering an accompanying blackberry/lime blue frozen beverage called “Kratos Fury”. Why blue? Because blood red was already reserved for my beloved cherry Slurpees.

God of War 3′S Huge Bosses: Kwhere’S Kratos

The video gaming part of the internet is abuzz right now with God of War III’s insanely giant creatures and/or environments. And if you’re a fan of the series, you’re probably pretty envious of people like Nick Chester of Destructoid, who were lucky enough to be allowed to play the demo involving Kratos fighting a giant water crab monster thing while the two are on the arm of the gigantic Titan Gaia. Imagine seeing this in motion:

If I were Samuel Jackson I’d say: that is one huge motherf—— but I’m not Samuel Jackson, so I’ll just stare at the picture in disbelief.

This is mind-boggling. I’m sure the awesomeness will wear off once the game comes out, but for now this is epic scale redefined. Hopefully the rest of the game lives up to these tech demos. Level Down: Minimalist Video Game Character Art

Compared to 15 pixel videos of games, these minimalist prints of video game characters are much more recognizable. Of course it helps that the characters shown are very popular.

Or did they become so popular partly because they have such recognizable features? Hmmm.

Whatever the case, one thing’s for sure: you can’t minimalize Pac-Man. Check out Browning’s photoset on Flickr for the rest of the art; I think they make for good iPhone wallpapers. He’s also selling T-shirt versions of some of the prints at MySoti.

God of War 2 to Run in High Def on PS3?

[UPDATE 2/13/07: IGN has since updated their original review, now stating that SCEA has confirmed that the title will only run in 480p. Bummer.]

I was already psyched for the impending release of God of War II for the Sony PlayStation 2, but now there’s even more reason to rejoice. According to IGN’s review of the upcoming game (9.7 out of 10), not only does the game kick some serious butt, it will play at full 720p resolution when running on a PlayStation 3.

It’s too soon to know if the 720p mode will improve texture quality or just polygon resolution. If executed properly, this little upgrade could be a significant bonus for those of use who’ve picked up a PS3. Since IGN was reviewing a pre-release build, they didn’t get a chance to actually play it in high definition, so we’ll have to wait a few weeks to know for sure. God of War II is expected to hit shelves on March 13, 2007.
