Lasonic’s 931 TRC was one of the most popular boombox models in the late 80s. With the death of the cassette tape the company released an update on the 931 TRC called the I931X Classic, which played audio files and had an iPod dock in place of a tape deck. The I931X Limited has the exact same features as the Classic, except it has a shiny gold finish.

Aside from the iPod/iPhone dock, the I931X can play MP3 files over its two 15W speakers via USB or SD/MMC storage devices or through a device plugged into its auxiliary 3.5mm input jack. It also has an alarm clock function. So hip-hop. Thankfully, it still retains its granddaddy’s AM/FM radio function and headphone and microphone inputs. It can be powered via AC, but like all boomboxes it can also be powered by batteries.

Put on your your fingerless gloves and head to Lasonic’s Veentage to order the I931X Limited for €284 (~$366 USD). Or not; it’s currently sold out but the shop promises to have 50 more units available by the end of January. I’m sure those will sell out fast as well so keep checking that link if you really want your own unit. But if you’re willing to settle for a less shiny unit, you can always get the I931X Classic, which is slightly cheaper at €249-€269 (~$321-$347 USD).

If you ever feel the need to blow millions of dollars on a device that will become obsolete in a few years (okay, not really obsolete, but with the way companies are releasing new, upgraded versions of phones all the time, well, you never know), then listen up.

Stuart Hughes, a site that sells extreme luxury items from mobile phones to furniture to homes and liquor, is now peddling the world’s most expensive smartphone at £6,000,000 (or about $9.4 million.) The easiest way to raise the value of a seemingly ordinary object is to dip it in 24-karat gold, stick more than 500 flawless diamonds on it, then store it inside of a solid platinum chest encrusted with rare gems and tiny chunks of bones from T-Rex (I’m serious, that’s what the product page says) and sell it.

And that’s not the only insanely expensive Apple device that Stuart Hughes has in store. He also has a £5,000,000 ($7.8 million) iPad 2 up for sale on the site that has a frame made from “the oldest rock the world has to offer,” Ammolite.

Fantastic sales talk, but I wonder if anyone’s ever going to fork over that much money for a device that retails for less than a thousand dollars? Hopefully, it’s at least the 3G model.

Like ostentatious crap, but don’t have any money to back up your “discerning” taste? Why spend $35,000 on a real gold iPhone, when you could still have a gold iPhone for about 20 bucks?

This ridiculous iPhone 4 case makes your smartphone look like it’s made out of solid gold. Or actually 999.9 gold, to be exact. Despite the “Net Wt 1000g” labeling, I’m pretty sure your iPhone will still weigh in at less than 1/5th of that, even with the case on.

I also can’t imagine that the angled corners on this thing would be particularly comfortable in your pocket, but then again, it’s made out of rubbery silicone, and not actual gold. If you’re just dying to show off your extravagant style, you can get the Gold Bar iPhone 4 case over at Strapya World for ¥1680 (appx. $22 USD).

If you’re a lover of classic video games, then you’ll probably dig this retro-style ring, made to look like a Space Invader. What I really love about it is that it’s not just a solid shape, but it actually looks like its made up of pixels.

Each one is handmade by Virginie Millefiori, who creates all sorts of cool jewelry, including an entire collection of Invaders-inspired wares. In this particular case, the ring is made from gold-plated brass, then hand-enameled in white to create the pixel effect.

While the ring in the picture above is clearly a different (non-pixellated) Invader, I couldn’t resist posting a picture of a cute girl rockin’ an awesome Space Invaders ring, and showing it off for the camera. This particular ring sells for $50 (USD) over on Etsy, and it would look great along with a matching pendant, don’t you think? You can also order them in silver-plate or different shades of enamel on request.

You can check out more of Virginie’s Invader collection over on flickr.

Now who hasn’t dreamed of having the Midas touch, and possessing the ability to turn whatever they touched into gold? Obviously, there are a lot of downsides to it (like you could accidentally turn the people you love into, well, solid gold), but that doesn’t mean there aren’t individuals who won’t resort to crazy things in order to turn stuff into gold. Individuals like Paul Moran, that is.

Stock Photo: Not the Actual Apartment Burnt Down by Flaming Poo

The price of gold has been rising pretty steadily over the past few months. And for those people who are down on their luck or in dire need of money, nothing is impossible. For example, Moran actually thought that it was possible to turn his own poop into gold by putting into an electric heater. All I can say is, if that were all it took to turn human waste into gold then everyone would be trying to poop their heads off – but they aren’t, for a reason: because it’s gross, it doesn’t work, and it can burn down your entire apartment block, which was what happened in Moran’s case.

Unfortunately for him, a judge wasn’t too impressed with his poop-to-gold experiment and has sentenced him to serve three months in jail.

With hundreds of millions of people living in poverty and going to sleep hungry all over the world, you’d think that others would forego going for ridiculously expensive goods that are pretty much not worth the dollars they’re sold for. Like that $229,000 Oscheriyori lunch box or that $100,000 iPhone Case by Brikk that’s going to be encrusted with jewels and precious gems of all sorts.

I can’t stomach or justify spending that amount of money on a single meal or iPhone case, but maybe those who were born with a silver spoon in their mouths can. They can also probably dig into this bejeweled dessert that’s priced at £22,000 (~$34,590 USD) without getting an upset stomach – not because of the dessert itself, but because of the price.

This dessert that’s equivalent to the worth of a whole lot of other <del>more useful</del> stuff is actually chocolate pudding layered with biscuit joconde and champagne jelly. The finishing is done with dark chocolate, gold foil leaves, some champagne caviar, and a 2 karat diamond. And obviously, you’re not going to be eating that last ingredient (but if you do, I’ll be sure to check the toilet after you.)

This dessert will break the world record for the world’s most expensive dessert if a patron gives the Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel in Windermere, Cumbria a call three weeks beforehand to order it.

People who have been born with a silver spoon in their mouths are probably already accustomed to all the luxuries and finer things in life. So I don’t think it would come as a shock if you come across one such silver-spooner who has had a serving of the Oscheriyori, which is the world’s most expensive lunch box – said to be worth ¥18 million yen, or about $234,000 (USD).

You can buy a few really nice cars, put your kids through college, buy steaks to last you a the rest of your life – or you could blow over two hundred grand for a single meal in a gold lunch box. While about $168k of the value of the meal lies in the 3.3kg gold lunch box, that still makes for over $60k for lunch.

For that amount, you can expect to sample some of the world’s most rare and exotic food, but you get quite a typical selection for your palate in this lunch box: root vegetables, sushi rolls, sashimi, and other rice and meat dishes.

These insanely expensive lunches are being served up at the Takashimaya Restaurant in New York and are part of a promotion by the restaurant for the New Year.

I’ve yet to meet a Tata or two that I didn’t think were interesting in one way or another. You could consider me a Tata connoisseur. There is one thing that will turn many people off to looking at Tatas though, and that is if your Tata is encrusted.

Take for instance this Tata Nano car from India that is encrusted in gold, silver, and jewels. This is the ugliest single Tata I have ever seen. This thing has such little taste that it’s hard to imagine someone whipping out their Tata and allowing this to be done to it. This Tata has copious use of 22K gold with over 80kg of the stuff on the thing and over 15kg of silver.

There are also all sorts of precious jewels adorning the Tata you see here with rubies, pearls, emeralds, and more. That is millions of dollars worth of gold with a price in India where the car was unveiled at 225.17 million rupees for the gold alone. And all that for the most unappealing Tata ever.

A golden Wii Remote Plus actually. And now we have a release date and pricing. After all you have to buy it first, before you can save Princess Zelda for the umpteenth time. I thought sisters were doing it for themselves these days. Not her apparently.

It will arrive at retailers on November 20th. That’s when you’ll be able to get your hands on the golden Wii remote bundle for $69.99 (USD). Or you can choose the game by itself for $49.99 (USD). No matter which you choose, you will also get The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony Concert music CD.

Better start saving up.

So you’ve got a gold plated flash drive. It even looks like a real gold bar! La dee-frickin-da. That’ll look pathetic without an equally blinged out computer to stick it into. If you really want to burn money and be a true techie pimp, you’re going to have to get something like this golden MacBook Pro by Computer Choppers.

We’ve featured Computer Choppers’ exquisite craftsmanship on a pre-unibody MacBook Pro before, but which millionaire in his right mind would want a previous generation golden laptop? It just doesn’t make sense! From what I understand, this time only the case has been coated with 24k gold. The keyboard and trackpad are merely “color matched”, whatever that means. It’s still quite a piece of work though. The company also claims that no special care is needed when handling the golden laptop because the plating is scratch-proof. It’s the opposite of thief-proof though.

Just like the ordinary models that Apple sells for unwashed middle class peons, the 24k gold plated MacBook Pros are available in 13″, 15″ and 17″ versions. Pricing starts at $5,000 (USD), but who cares about that. Have your people call Computer Choppers‘ people so they can work something out.

Speaking of both manufacturers, did you know that the two have an ongoing spat? Anyway. While we’ve featured a gold brick-like flash drive before, this one really does have gold on it.

Kanazawa City’s association with gold leaf dates back hundreds of years; in fact Kanazawa literally means “marsh of gold”. Until today Kanazawa City still accounts for 99% of Japan’s high-quality gold leaf, and the material is used extensively in the city’s crafts. In other words, this flash drive is legit.

You can order the 4GB Gold Ingot USB drive from GeekStuff4U for approx. $186 (USD). Legit indeed. Each flash drive is made-to-order, and once you send for one your purchase cannot be cancelled. Although I think the only people who would even consider buying this already have the dollar and the desire, and would never back down from what would be to them is a petty transaction.

If you are a fan of listening to your digital tracks, but you prefer the analog sound from the old days for your tunes, and you like your gadgets blinged out, there’s a new digital audio converter for you. The converter is called the uDAC-2 Signature Gold Edition (or SGE.)

The 24-bit/96kHZ uDAC-2 converter is covered in 24K gold, and has a Swarovski crystal on the volume knob. The front and back panels of the device are stainless steel, rounding out its luxurious styling. The converter has a USB port for power and connectivity to your computer. Sound from your computer is then converted into analog signals and sent to your headphones.

The device has an audiophile grade USB connector for input. Outputs include analog RCA, coaxial RCA digital output, and a 3.5mm headphone port. The uDAC-2 SGE has a double jitter reduction mechanism and an oversampling filter. You can buy the SGE version of the converter right now for $399 (USD).

Released in 1977, the Atari 2600 aka VCS (Video Computer System) is a pioneering piece of technology. Although it was not the first to have game code separate from the console (as opposed to a piece of hardware that was stuck with pre-installed games) it was the one that popularized that setup, which as we all know is still in use today. That’s why I think Atari founder Nolan Bushnell and his colleagues all deserve to have one of these:

Yep, that is indeed an Atari 2600 with 24k gold plating. The godfather of gaming looks good in gold doesn’t it? Let’s take a closer look at the golden joystick:

I wonder if its still functional. The casemod was made by Urchin Associates (scroll to the bottom of the page to see the post) back in 2009 as part of a project called “Gold Mine, All Mine”.

If you’re one of the people who like the idea of owning iced up and gemmed gadgets but don’t have enough money to snag one of Stuart Hughes‘ over-the-top pieces, maybe you’d settle for having one of your keyboard’s keys blinged up? And what better key to pimp up than the one bearing the dollar sign?

Better to have one gold key than nothing at all right? Actually, about that gold thing: the key isn’t entirely made of gold, merely gold-plated silver. But look on the bright and shiny side! Silver’s next to gold, so it’s not so bad. Playas gotta start somewhere, and all that motivational stuff.

The Gold Key $4 is designed by Martí Guixé, who makes them on a made-to-order basis, so the price, appearance and delivery time will vary, but it most definitely will cost more than $4. Holla at him at mail[at]chihapaura.com for more details.

If I had a million dollars, I’d buy a new car. Maybe I’ll build my puppy a fancy doghouse, like the one Paris Hilton built for her Chihuahuas. Or maybe I’ll invest it in the stock market, maybe open up a franchise of some fast food restaurant.

Or maybe you could use it to buy something insanely expensive, like the Devon Tread Watch or one of those gold Æsir phones. That, or I could blow everything to buy the Endless Happiness Pen designed by Anita Tan.

So the next time you hit the town with this pen pinned to your breast pocket, you can literally say that you feel like a million bucks.

Kidding aside, the Heaven Gold Pen was created to celebrate the beginning of the year 2012. Ironic, since it’s also a year that a lot of people say would spell the end for all of mankind. The pen is studded with over 161 sparkling color diamonds that will (forgive me) be sure to bring you endless happiness. Of course, you could just sell them off one by one when you get strapped for cash.

Now to address the big elephant in the room: how much is this pen worth? Well, just a few thousand short of a million, since it’s priced at $995,510. Did your jaw drop like mine did?

Luxury cars, luxury toilets, and luxury watches have all had their run. Now it’s time for a luxury mobile phone to take the stage.

And when I say “luxury,” I mostly mean “insanely expensive.”

The silver version of these extravagant phones go for £6,400 ($10,560 USD) while the gold-plated one sells for a lofty £37,000 ($61,000).

Now here’s the kicker: you’d think that for something with that price, you’d be getting a state-of-the-art smartphone that’s equipped with futuristic features that will make your money well worth it, right? Wrong. Because essentially, what you’re paying for is appearances.

Fact is, these Æsir phones aren’t even smart. (What I mean to say is, they aren’t smartphones.) You can’t browse the net with them, you can’t constantly update your Facebook profile or send out tweets, and they don’t even have cameras. But what you can do with these phones is make calls, send text messages, set some alarms, or create a to-do list. In short, the Æsir phone is basic phone with the most basic of functions, reminiscent of the day’s of Nokia’s 5110 (which happened to be the first mobile phone I ever owned.)

These phones are actually three years in the making and are constructed from watch-grade materials. The gold version is made of 18 carat solid yellow gold, while the silver one is made of stainless steel. Both are equipped with a sapphire crystal lens with ARdur™ coating and a ceramic upper finished with a high-grade and ultra-glossy finish.

With Japan and China already filling their vending machines with bananas and crabs, I guess they needed to come up with something different to sell instead of cans of Coke and Snickers bars. So what’s next for Asia’s vending machines? Precious metals, of course!

Yep, these machines are designed to dispense gold or silver coins and ingots. Designed by Space International [JP], the machines can handle quantities from a gram to 1/4 of an ounce. At today’s prices, that puts the most expensive item in the machines at about $400 (USD). I guess when you look at those pricey Best Buy vending machines, it’s not all that crazy to think that someone might make a purchase out of one of these. That said, I’m not sure why you’d actually need to buy gold or silver on a whim.

The first gold vending machines are being installed in central Tokyo, where there’s little concern about criminals breaking into these. If they had one of these here in Chicago, it would be broken open and emptied in a day. Despite the fact the machine says “SPACE GOLD,” it currently only stocks gold found here on Earth. Perhaps if they did start mining gold in outer space, they could demand an even higher premium.

An elegantly concealed weapon covered in gold, this 1948 .22 cal pencil-pistol was made by The Late Maharaja of Jodhpur, who gave it as a present to Lord Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India. Sounds like a (minor) treasure worthy of Nathan Drake doesn’t it? The pencil has a removable tip, which covers the 2 3/4-inch barrel. The rear of the pencil contains the “sliding breech and concealed trigger.”

While it’s form makes it pretty stealthy, the Maharaja borked his own stealthy design by engraving the words “Gun Shop Jodphur, 1948″ on the pen. Kind of a giveaway, don’t you think?

The golden plated pencil-pistol is just one of the many antique weapons that will be auctioned off on June 24 by Holt’s Auctioneers, and is expected to fetch between £700 to £900 (approx. $1,000 to $1,300 USD). The lot also includes the pen’s “its original red celluloid velvet lined display case with makers label, provision for ten rounds of ammunition, a cleaning rod” and papers that prove its heritage.

A 20th-century pistol shaped like a pencil that’s wrapped in gold made by a Maharaja and given to the last Viceroy of India for the price of a MacBook Pro? Now that’s a good deal.

The Stuart Hughes recipe for success: gadget + gold + diamonds = PROFIT. The latest manifestation of that formula is of course a golden iPad (the 64GB WiFi + 3G model), supposedly made by Stuart’s wife Katherine.

The Apple logo on the back of this sinful monster is made of 22 carat solid gold, and has 25.5 carats worth of diamonds. The whole rear cover is also made from 22-carat gold, and it alone weighs a whopping 1.2 kilograms (2.6 lbs).

As usual, the golden iPad can be ordered from Stuart Hughes’ website. Only ten units will be made, each priced at £129,995 (approx. $188,000 USD). I know of at least one playa who’d like to rock this on his neck.

Luxury phone brand Mobiado prides itself in crafting unique phones. The company was one of the first to use materials such as aluminum, wood and even meteorites. Their latest design is the CPT001, a cellphone with a body carved from a single block of marble. Knowing that the company has made a phone using space rock, the CPT001 is tame by Mobiado’s standards.

Obviously a phone made out of marble isn’t weird enough, so the CPT001 also has solid gold buttons, with a gold mechanical watch at the bottom. The watch has of course a golden crown. The phone is also filled with gold engravings and letters. And the touchscreen? Made from a single large piece of sapphire. I think only the Creator himself is entitled to own can afford can make can carry the CPT001.
