Android and iOS Grand Theft Auto III Can Run Old PC Mods

There were a lot of happy gamers when it was announced that Rockstar was bringing GTA III to the iPhone and Android devices out there. The game has been around for ten years now and was a huge seller on the PC. Back in the day, there were also a bunch of hacks and mods out there for GTA III on the PC.

Some good news for the gamers out there that have GTA III on their device, it appears that you can use those old PC mods and hacks on your smartphone or tablet. The game runs the PC code on iOS and Android apparently so the mod isn’t even complicated.

On iOS, it appears you need to jailbreak your device in order to install the mods. On Android, however, it’s a simple process of connecting the device to your computer, finding the Android/Data/com.rockstar.gta3/files/GTA3 directory and installing your mods. Grand Theft Auto on the NES Features Low Res Blood, Tanooki Suit

Video games have really come a long way, especially when it comes to marketing. For those too young to remember, CollegeHumor made a totally radical fake commercial for Grand Theft Auto on the NES.

As ridiculous as the fake GTA was, the commercial freaked me out. It’s unbelievably dumb, but kids, this really was how we rolled:

*shudder* I’m going to watch the Halo: Reach trailer a couple more times. I need to be reassured that the industry has matured.

And the Best-Selling Game of the Decade is….

…the Nintendo Wii Remote. Wait! I mean Wii Play (with Wii Remote). That’s right, folks. Halo isn’t the best-selling game of the decade, and it ain’t Gears of War. Forget all the Final Fantasy installments. It’s not any of the gun-toting installments of Grand Theft Auto. Scratch off Madden and all other sports games. The first decade of this new millennium was all about some cow racing.

Holding second right now is Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but it may lose its place to… Wii Fit. If you were doubting the success of Nintendo’s Wii console in any way, uh, stop. Their consoles really might as well print money.

It’s easy to make jokes about the extra controller being the primary selling point for Wii Play (because it’s pretty much true!), but there’s no arguing with millions of people heading out and buying an expensive video game package like Wii Fit. The exergame and its associated balance board have been a booming success, to say the least.

Rockstar’s money-printing Grand Theft Auto series racks up millions because it successfully blends a free & open world with gripping stories; anyone who’s into video games knows how hard it is to find – or make – a game that does good on both counts. Like all good stories – whether in book, video or game format – the GTA series is filled with memorable characters. Although one can’t really say that any of them are role models, these characters have such rich histories and personalities that they make some real world people – like me – seem fiction in comparison. What better way to remember CJ, Tommy and the rest of the GTA cast than owning their Kubrick versions?

Auctioneer arakias is selling a rare, unopened Grand Theft Auto Kubrick triple pack on eBay, featuring 5 characters each from Grand Theft Auto 3, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas. Yes, GTA III’s nameless protagonist (believed to be Claude Speed from GTA 2) has his own Kubrick.

Honestly I’ve never been able to finish a single GTA game yet, but I want one of these Kubricks. Actually I want all of them. Unfortunately they’re hella expensive: bidding starts at $521 USD, and I think the auction’s ending a few hours from now. arakias claims that only 3,000 of each set was made, so if you miss this auction, you’ll have to do a bit of searching – and spending – to score these kickass figures.

Oh, Irony: Pirates Unleash Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Early

Word on the internet streets is that a copy of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars has been leaked and the downloads are flying. The game, the first in the franchise for the Nintendo DS, is scheduled for release next week.

There are some reports that the ROM is not fully functional, or may not be working on all DS flash carts, which must be something of a relief for Rockstar Games.

Chinatown Wars drops players into the role of 25-year-old Huang Lee after his father’s death. As you can see in the video below, the game makes use of the Nintendo handheld’s touchscreen interface, because everyone loves interactive theft games!

Grand Theft Auto 4 Cross-Stitch for a**-Kickin’ Grannies

Someone (who I’ll dub Crafty McCrafterson) created this charming Grand Theft Auto IV cross-stitch which uses embroidery thread to express that age old chestnut “Only those who die get closure. The living do not.” Awwww. So sweet!

I don’t know about you, but when I think “Grand Theft Auto IV” I think “granny crafts.” Oh wait, actually I think about hotwiring stolen cars and hijacking helicopters while majorly pwning everyone in Liberty City. My point is that GTA IV + cross-stitching is, like, the ultimate in cognitive dissonance, no?

Here’s a fun fact I just made up: 9 out of 10 stitching grannies agree that GTA IV is awesome.

Gta Iv Available Now at Target (Not)

Somebody at Target seems to have jumped the gun just a little bit. Apparently, they’ve hung this banner in the electronics department of one of their Orlando, Florida locations stating that Grand Theft Auto IV is available now. While we’d all love for this to be true, the eagerly-anticipated game isn’t due to be released until April 29, over a month from now.

Flickr contributor Lividfiction came across the display at his local Target store, and managed to snap a couple of pictures before anyone in the department got smart enough to realize the gross inaccuracy of the signage.

Heck, even Target’s PS3 & Xbox 360 game reservation cards list the release date as “03/2008″. Now either somebody really screwed up here, or GTA IV is coming out much earlier than expected. I’m going with the first one.
