That’s because this replica of the Colonial Marines’ Smartgun is impeccable – and huge. This massive weapon is a full-scale reproduction of the one used in Aliens. This thing is not only huge, but it’s got to weigh a ton, as its made out of aluminum, resin and steel. It’s a real masterpiece of prop-building, and it’s ready to take on whatever nasty alien you can throw at it.

This custom-made replica pulse rifle comes from Movie Guns Inc. over on Etsy, and is just one of the many awesome replicas they’ve made of classic movie weapons. Chances are that you won’t be able to afford the $2700(USD) price tag on the Smartgun replica, but if you love Aliens, you might want to check out their M41-A pulse rifle replica, which sells for “just” $1795.

Trigger happy folks will probably want to replace their regular doorknobs with these. Unfortunately, they don’t really look like much like guns attached to your door, like those Bang Bang Doorknobs did. That takes away points for aesthetics, but the design does make mass producing it easier – if it ever gets picked up by a manufacturer, that is.

But just like the latter, all you have to do is pull the trigger – and then the door – to leave or enter a room.

The Goliathon is a heavily modified Nerf Vulcan Blaster. To the professor’s credit it does look like it a weapon from another time, or at the very least something that can be used as a bludgeon. It has various metal embellishments, including copper piping, 4 gauges, a valve wheel and other brass trinkets.

Punkers of steam should head to Prof. T. Lemetry’s Etsy shop Steampunk 101, where the Goliathon is being peddled for $350 (USD).

The students created their grappling hook gun for an Air Force competition. The device the team created uses a launcher to shoot a grappling hook as far as 90 feet in the air. Once deployed, the system uses pulleys, and other tech to automatically pull the user up the building or other surface with little effort.

The contest the team will be participating in gives them 20 minutes to demonstrate the tool and then train military representatives on its use. The goal of the competition is to get three people up a 90-foot vertical incline while carrying 300 pounds of gear each. The device designed by the BYU students is able to climb 30 feet per minute. For being the world’s smallest .45 it is surprisingly affordable at just $500(USD) for the aluminum version and $700 for the titanium version. But are your hands small enough to use it effectively?

Nick built a full-size M45 Tactical Shotgun over the course of two months exclusively from LEGO bricks. He says that a little bit of glue was required in some particularly weak spots so it wouldn’t fall apart, but other than that, the gun looks very realistic and actually has some working features.

The coolest of the working features is the sliding pump-action.When the pump is moved, it also actually ejects a shell. How awesome is that?

I wonder what the design process that went into coming up with a workable pump-action slider entailed.

BTW, Nick is the same dude that made that Halo LEGO sniper rifle a while back. I wonder when he’ll build a LEGO Plasma Sword and LEGO M41 Rocket Launcher to go with.

Palsen admits that one of the reasons why their replica looks so much like its in-game counterpart is because he was able to secure high-resolution pictures and 3D models of the weapon from Epic Games – the developer behind Gears of War –  itself. He used these detailed resources to create the replica out of medium density fiberboard (MDF), styrene plastic, Apoxie Sculpt, Rebound 25, Smooth-Cast 300 silicone and other materials. As you can see the gun also has LEDs in front and on the sides to emulate the original gun’s glowing effect. His wife Dena is responsible for the amazing weathering and detail work.

The Harmless Hunter KillShot camera is designed to look like a hunting rifle and lets you “hunt” without having to kill anything. It doesn’t shoot bullets. Instead it shoots pictures of the target, with crosshairs even.

There’s no accidental misfiring, no suffering animals, and no other hunters getting shot by accident. It can even be used as a safe training weapon. After all, it’s a simple camera that just looks like a gun. Maybe this will stop hunting in it’s tracks.

The Harmless Hunter is a Kickstarter project that is in need of funding to become a reality. A pledge of at least $150(USD) will land you one – assuming the project gets funded. Just don’t try and take one with you on vacation – it probably won’t make it through airport security.

Meet the AF2011-A1 “Second Century” by Arsenal Firearms. It will put two holes in whatever you shoot. This double barrel pistol is pretty beautiful and twice as deadly as your old one shooter. Rest assured that whatever you shoot is going down quickly if it gets hit with two bullets instead of one.

The gun is made in Italy and while I doubt they will be widely available to everyone soon – it seems like they are trying to entice the military and law enforcement with these bad boys. This is awesome and scary at the same time.

The SpeechJammer was invented by Kazutaka Kurihara and Koji Tsukada. As you can see in the picture above, it has a directional microphone to capture the target’s speech, and a directional speaker to play the captured sound back. The distance sensor uses the laser pointer to calculate the distance of the target. The on-board computer needs the distance to ensure that the delayed playback is consistent. The funny thing is, DAF doesn’t work if you stutter. In fact, it has the opposite effect, making stutterers speak better. That’s why there are programs – and even an iOS app – that cause DAF. I guess we’ll just have to deal with noisy stutterers with a good ol’ punch to the face.

The brass paint, gauges and pipes are great touches, but otherwise I think this project still needs some work. There’s still too much of the original rifle peeking out. But that’s just me, and anyway I’m sure vanbangerburger can still tweak or build on his design if he wanted to. Like maybe make it shoot steam. Or punks. Or steamy punks.

As great as the cheap factor is here, the best part about it is that it will fire hundreds of Airsoft BBs before you even need to reload. Say hello to my (cheap) little friend! You’ll need a plastic soda bottle, a quick release air compressor adapter, an air compressor blowgun, and a 7mm by 6-inch brake line. And of course an air supply. Not the soft rock band.

You could also use a portable air supply so you are untethered and free to hunt your prey. It seems simple enough to build, so it won’t take you long until you are unleashing hellfire on various objects and your enemies. I wouldn’t recommend shooting it at others, though, as Airsoft pellet hits can be pretty painful.

That said, these Bang Bang Doorknobs by Nikita Kovalev are really something else. Basically, these doorknobs are based on the look of 9mm Makarov pistols. To open the door, just pull the trigger and open.

I don’t know you’re supposed to lock your doors with these doorknobs though, as I don’t see any slots for keys or anything else. Maybe it has something to do with cocking the gun, or maybe these are strictly for interior doors which don’t lock.

The most frightening thing though is that this is a real attachment for real AK-47s. So if the zombie apocalypse really does happen, then you’d best order yours, just in case. The Max Force Maximizer 60 can fire up to 8 bits of harmless paper ammo between reloads, and can shoot them up to 60 feet away. The moistened paper pellet ammo is designed to break up on impact, so you can see where you hit, but they don’t cause any real damage. Stepping up the rung is the Shadowhawk 100, which looks like a sniper rifle. It’s even got a folding stand and a scope for getting the most accurate shot off. Plus, the Shadowhawk can fire its paper payload at your victims up to 100 feet away.

And if you’d rather go with something a little less intense, you could always go for the Max Force Blow Gun 35, which uses your breath to fire, instead of a spring-loaded firing mechanism. The Blow Gun can only fire 35 feet, but you can probably use it much more stealthily than the Maximizer. I like to think of it like the world’s fanciest spitball cannon. Just don’t suck instead of blow, or else you might end up with a stomach full of paper.

The Maximizer 60 gun will set you back £19.99 (~$32 USD), the Shadowhawk 100 sells for £39.99 (~$64 USD), and the Blow Gun 35 goes for £12.99 (~$21 USD) over at Firebox. Additional ammo pellets sell in packs of 500 for £4.99 (~$8 USD).

It’s a single shot, bolt action rifle for those who can’t decide whether they want fish or deer for dinner. Your indecisiveness is expensive though as this weapon will cost you $425(USD).

Made by Instructables contributor PDRWLSN, this flamethrower pistol looks like it could still do some pretty major damage, especially if you’re within a couple of feet of its flame-shooting barrel. He made it using various bits of copper tubing, plywood, some laser-cut acrylic parts, butane, and the pulse-ignitor from his gas grill to start the fire burning.

And while readers over on Make: have been quick to point out the dangers of spraying burning hydrocarbon into the atmosphere, you shouldn’t be playing with such a device if you’re not a little bit of a risk-taker.
