Regretsy: the Best Guide for the Worst Stuff on Etsy

I read about Regretsy on Gizmodo so yeah, half the world’s already read about it, but this is just too fun to pass up. See, we’ve featured a ton of awesome handmade items sold on Etsy, but rarely have we trawled it for mind-scarring monstrosities. But from now on we will, thanks to Regretsy. The site’s creator – who btw goes by the name “Helen Killer” – is on a mission to drive herself (himself ?) crazy by looking for the worst handicrap that Etsy has to offer. Helen finds everything from the morbidly funny Url, the fish in a squirrel suit,

to the downright tasteless HIV clock,

to my favorite, BLACK UNICORNS. All this time we’ve been wondering whether they exist, and here we have special edition unicorns on goddamned Etsy. Whodathunk.

Let me just remind you that these things are for sale. My goodness. Thank you so much Hellen Killer. Really. So much. If you’re tired of looking at the decent things that the human race can accomplish with two hands, drop by Regretsy. You won’t regret it. Unless you’re a kid, in which case ask your parents first, ’cause there’s plenty of notsafeforyou items there. By the way, I seriously can’t tell if the person selling the black unicorns is doing it for fun or is trying to screw people (note the no-return policy on the fabled beast carcasses).

Crochet connoisseur Rin aka deadcraft aka oddgumi makes wonderful dolls of personalities both fictional and real, as long as they’re awesome. I am confident that a Barney Stinson doll is in the works. Let’s look at some her creations:

Now that’s something you don’t see everyday. Jamie looks kinda creepy though. Adam’s spot on, but I still like Lolcat Adam better. You can get the myth busting dolls for $46 (USD) at Rin’s Etsy shop.

Forget what I said about Jamie. That is creepy. Yet still awesome. Should you want to scare the hell out of anyone, you can buy the Heath Ledger Joker doll for $24, also at Rin’s Etsy shop.

“War has changed. War has become routine. And for some reason I know nothing about what’s going on and always have to be informed by Otacon and everyone else around me.” So says Old Snake, who for some reason seems to be carrying sausages around his neck. Unfortunately, the Snake doll is not currently on Rin’s Etsy shop, but I’m pretty sure she won’t turn you down if you ask her to make you one.

From a Mousehole Far, Far Away: Star Wars Mice

The creations of Anna aka TheHouseofMouse are like felt minifigs. Except that they’re mice. She currently has 131 micefig designs, from King Tutankhamen Mouse to Hannibal Lecter Mouse. Yes, the one with the mask. She also has sweet Star Wars micefigs too. Let’s start with the heroes of the Light Side. Here’s Yoda Mouse:

I think the lower half of Yoda Mouse could also be the lower half of Kermit Mouse. Next up we have an appropriately micefigged’ Star Wars staple, Ewok Mouse:

Ewok Mouse looks really angry. Probably because the Sith Lord is here, Emperor Palpatine Mouse:

Even as a mouse Palpatine is still creepy. Finally, what would a space opera be without a bounty hunter? Luckily, we have Boba Fett Mouse to complicate the plot:

He’ll join the fray as soon as he finds his boots. And gets rid of his stiff neck.

Each of the 2.5″ micefigs sell for $35 USD. Materials vary depending on the design, but I think the “naked” micefig template is made of felt, glue and polyfil stuffing. Since each unit is handsewn, turnaround time for mouse orders may take up to 4 business days. The good thing about it is that the mouse you get will be unique because of slight variations, but at the same time Anna assures us that the mouse you get will look pretty much like the template you chose, so you shouldn’t be concerned about the quality.

You can also make custom orders, which have a base price of $45 USD. I want a Bret Mouse & Jemaine Mouse. Or a Mugen Mouse and Jin Mouse. Or a Suikoden Set, featuring all 540 characters from all games. I’m sure you can do it Anna.
