I don’t know about you, but I usually know when I’m stressed. I don’t need any gadget to tell me that. Looking at a mirror also does the trick. But that doesn’t mean that stress-detecting technology is useless. While I’m pretty sure you can also tell when you’re stressed, sometimes other people don’t. Your boss for example. (Not my boss. He’s great.) That’s why a company called iDesia is promoting it’s BioDynamic Signature technology or BDS, which it claims can detect short-term stress, primarily by monitoring a person’s heart rate.

According to the company, the sensors used in the BDS system can be literally painted onto devices. So your office mouse, your keyboard, hell even the copier can be implanted with the sensor, hopefully leading to a healthier work-environment. Someday even video game controllers may have sensors like these. You know how stressful a round of gaming can be. For now though, it would be great if this technology found its way to Foxconn. You can read more about iDesia’s BDS system on their brochure (pdf).

If you use Twitter, odds are you occasionally inform your poor followers of some business that just really doesn’t matter. (How’s your sandwich, by the way?) Why not keep them updated on something that might actually matter, like your heart rate?

Thanks to a bunch of Japanese Twitter-lovers, anyone willing to use a heart monitor can update their Twitter feeds with reports on their heart rates. You know, so everyone who follows you when you’re doing anything particularly exciting, like watching his hilarious promo video. Or running. Or dying.

Personally, I’d like to have an automatic feed for something really random, like a tweet every time I curl my toes. Maybe just the left ones.
