I would have never thought about combining Hello Kitty with Ghostbusters, but apparently somebody has. This custom proton pack was recently seen at this year’s NYC Comic Con. A lot of time went into it to make it look this good.

The cosplayer was part of a crew of Ghostbusters, but he stood out from the crowd of Venkman, Stantz and Spengler as much as Ernie Hudson did in the original movie. Apparently, the pack took about six months to make and weighs about 45 pounds. It lights up and even needs a bit of calibration between ghostbusting sessions.

I don’t know if the the real Ghostbusters would be that impressed, but cosplayers everywhere are loving it.

Well, it turns out that Hello Kitty Darth Vader is a Photoshopped fake, made by Count Dookie for The Dented Helmet. He actually calls it the Sanrio Vader and I have to say that it’s not very scary.

On a related note, another member of The Dented Helmet has completed a real white Darth Vader costume. I don’t know what to think of that, to be honest. It’s not bad-looking, but it’s almost blasphemous.

Hello Kitty is cute. There’s no denying it, as millions of teenagers all over the world will affirm. There is no shortage of TVs geared for children, but Hello Kitty TVs were somewhat scarce. That is, until now.

This new version of the Hello Kitty TV was announced last week and it’s hard to believe, but it’s even cuter than the older models I’ve seen. Also, this new Hello Kitty TV comes with a 13.3-inch LCD screen.

This new device is made by the Japanese company Dynaconnective and has 1,280 × 800 resolution, 500:1 contrast ratio, 16ms response time, and a pair of 3W stereo speakers. To us, it looks pretty portable, so that you can entertain your young ones pretty much anywhere.

Naturally, the TV can show your favorite Kitty’s face in the background. It also comes with a cute remote control that’s shaped like Hello Kitty’s ribbon. It will start selling in Japan on December 24th for approximately $560 (USD). That’s a bit steep! Unfortunately, it’s not suited for anywhere but Japan, since it’s optimized for the Japanese TV system and has Japanese menus, but we’re sure that this cute TV will be exported soon enough.

I think we can all agree that Hello Kitty is pretty cute. Hello Kitty floating on a fluffy confection of fake cream and glittery jewels… well, that’s something else altogether. Stunning, certainly. And the gleam might just put your eye out. Sometimes, cute can be risky.

At first glance, this seems to be from the uncomfortable-controls school of gaming accessories, but it looks like all the trim and flounce is limited to the top of the case, which means that for most games, only people unfortunate enough to be standing in front of you are at risk from gem-induced blindness. Playing a few DS games might get uncomfortable, though; anytime you’ve got to turn that bad boy sideways, your fingers are going to hate you.

But hey! The overall effect looks good; everything is carefully placed and affixed, and at first glance, this looks like a retail case–but it was all hand-decorated.

To celebrate the insanely popular Hello Kitty’s 35th anniversary, Sanrio teamed up with mimoco to come up with a flash drive cartoon character named Hey Flashy. I’m just kidding, of course they came up with Hello Kitty MIMOBOTs. Although I think one of the designs went too far:

It’s Hello Kitty wearing a Hello Kitty suit. Either that or it’s a Hello Kitty monster with Hello Kitty’s head in its mouth. Either way this needs less kittens. Fortunately there are other, less mind-boggling designs.

You can buy the Hello Kitty MIMOBOT flash drives at mimoco’s online shop. The 2 GB flash drive sells for $25 (USD), the 4 GB sells for $35, and the 8 GB sells for $50. I’ll wait for the Keyboard Cat MIMOBOT.

Pretty impressive papercraft on the face… and even moreso when you realize that the accessories–the hats, the bows–are all individual pieces. Move ‘em around as you will. But leave the mustaches alone.

If you are braver than I, and less apt to get papercuts, you can download the templates for these projects and give ‘em a try yourself.

Now I’m seriously considering going back to Windows: Microsoft’s beta release of Windows 7 pays off yet again, and the Redmond giant receives more free publicity with Akihabara News‘ real world test of Windows 7 beta on an Sotec (Onkyo) C101K3W Hello Kitty Edition.

The netbook was able to provide decent performance, from normal web surfing while data was being transferred in the background, as well as opening 400 pictures in Bridge, and even editing in Photoshop CS3 despite the fact that the little guy only had a 1.6 Ghz Atom CPU, 1 Gb of RAM, and a couple of Hello Kitty stickers. Don’t believe me? See for yourself!

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

You can skip to 5:40 for the Bridge and Photoshop action, but if you watch the start of the video you’ll see that the set-up isn’t perfect; HD and Flash HD streaming videos are basically reduced to slideshows. Can’t have everything I guess. But still, the fact that Windows 7 beta runs perfectly well on such weak specs is really good news. I’ll be bootcamping 7 for sure. Unless of course Snow Leopard is better. I think Apple should capitalize on this kind of free publicity and have a 10.6 beta version released, even if it’s just closed beta.
