It’s a helmet that any warrior, man or woman, would be honored to wear. To craft it, you need 157 golf balls, Magneto’s helmet and a deer that has just gored its sworn enemy in the face. Just kidding. I think. I didn’t read all of Volpin’s guide so you might really need some or all of those.

Instructables contributor Natalina encrusted this helmet with hundreds of tiny mirror squares – just like the ones in an actual mirror ball. Though these ones came with fabric backing to make it a little easier. The mirror tiles perfectly reflect light like the real deal, so she can actually keep it on when she gets off her bike to hit the dance floor.

Natalia says that since she went with the real glass tiles for optimum reflection, but that she wouldn’t recommend using it for actual motorcycle riding though. That’s what Cryoprime did. But that’s not all he has made. He made this Halo helmet for the release of Halo: Anniversary back in November of last year. He also made a needler and promises to put up a picture of that one soon.

If you check out Cryoprime’s DeviantArt gallery you will find a bunch of awesome can sculptures, which even include some kick-ass dragons too. This kind of recycling is way cooler than chucking it in a bin and having a truck pick it up.

This is the best interpretation of the Dragonborn helmet I’ve seen so far. In fact, it was cast from the mold that was used for the statues that Bethesda uses in stores. So it is a completely accurate replica. The seller has just one for sale and he says that this is all there will ever be. He completed the project and is moving on to other things. Or as I interpret that, he used to a helmet maker, but he took an arrow to the knee.

Being a unique item, this will cost you $300(USD) from Brayud’s Etsy store. Should be perfect for your next cosplay event or convention. FUS RO DAH!

Well, now you can just buy a crocheted version that takes care of both beard and helmet in one fell swoop. They look pretty awesome and instantly transform you into a fantasy character. These are handmade by LegendaryCrafts on Etsy and will cost you $65-$85(USD) depending on which one you want.

The beards are detachable thanks to two buttons on either side, just in case you feel like going beardless that day. They will even make custom pieces per your instructions. It’s a great time to be a geek, isn’t it?

This folding helmet was created by Patrick Jouffret of the French design studio Agency 360. The helmet is supposed to offer the same amount of protection as a normal helmet, but it can fold up so it’s easily transportable when it’s not on your head. The folded size is small enough to fit in a backpack, purse or bag, which is cool.

Overade was first prototyped in 2010, but it’s supposed to finally go into production in 2012.

Shawn started with a 3D model of the helmet loaded into a papercraft modeling program called Pepakura Designer, which output pieces of paper to cut and glue into a model. Once the model was created out of paper, Shawn covered it inside and out with layers of fiberglass resin. Then he sanded, polished, and painted it in multiple coats to give it that distressed, war-worn look. The result is pretty awesome, and it definitely looks like one a Space Marine Terminator would have no problem wearing.

Shawn created this as a display piece and in total, spent about $45 on materials, which is pretty cheap compared to what he ended up with. Of course, many more hours of his time and talent went into it as well.

Enterprising sewer Carolyn is making these awesome made-to-order wearable Wampa heads Nordic-style helmets which look cool whether you’re into LARPing or or just RPGing.

Carolyn claims that each helmet has “authentic details”, but I doubt a real helmet was ever made of polar fleece. Seriously though it looks awesome, and it seems thick enough to provide ample protection from the cold.

There are five levels available: mild, regular, hot, extra hot, and flaming. I usually go for regular, but I do want to try out the flaming one someday – and maybe wear the Nuclear Taco Sensor Helmet while doing so.

This colorful helmet is actually a discomfort meter that measures just how uncomfortable you are while you chomp down that taco by taking note of how much you’re sweating, notes your temperature, and measures how much of that water + yogurt liquid you’re drinking to soothe your tastebuds.

The sensors that measure all this stuff are connected to an Arduino board and a meter that displays if the taco you’re eating is “no sweat” or if it’s a “hot volcano.” Aside from that, the helmet’s front has been installed with a camera that records every moment of your taco discomfort.

The helmet was developed by a team from altLab in Lisbon and won first place in the 2011 CodeBits 48-hour hacking competition.

Paul McCue (aka “Kyoob“) – the guy who made this crazy-looking headgear – is calling it “steampunk” but other than the rivets and the weathered metal look, there’s really nothing steampunk about it. But those horns are definitely Viking. I know, because I saw it once in a Hagar the Horrible cartoon – and then later at an NFL game.

Regardless, it’s pretty awesome. I only wish he had made a backpack with jets to go with it.

And I’d rather have bad hair with the Luxy Vespa Helmet on my head, too. It’s a helmet that’s designed specifically for women, what with its smooth curves, overall stylish look, and gorgeous color.

It was designed by Daniel Shih-Tung Chang of the Art Center College of Design and is described like so:

Luxy is a women’s motorcycle helmet for commuting and casual motorcycle riding. Its purpose is to increase helmet use. As many riders are female, the distinctive and unique look sets it apart from existing helmets, proving that style and safety can coexist.

It’s definitely a looker of a helmet, and apparently, I’m not the only one who thinks so, because the Luxy actually won bronze award in the International Design Excellence Awards back in 2010.

StarWarsRemix is a collaboration between Noah and Mica Scalin, Emma Beddows, and Scott Walker. The goal is to make Star Wars characters, things or vehicles out of everyday objects. It’s a pretty cool idea, and anyone can submit their projects. Freehand Profit is the guy behind the MASK365 project.

The helmet was made from a couple of pair of Superskate Stormtrooper mids, and is being auctioned off on eBay right now. At the time of writing, the current bid was $1,025 (USD), but the reserve has yet to be met.

Pastry artist by day, Star Wars fan by night, Jenn Hall decided that if she was ever going to make an R2-D2 cake, it might come out in the shape of a helmet. But instead of baking said cake, she cooked up this most-excellent bike helmet in the likeness of R2-D2. Here’s Jenn showing of her finished R2 unit while riding her equally bad-ass scooter.

Not only is this thing perfect, it has just cemented Jenn as every geek’s dream girl. If she’s not already got every Star Wars fanatic on the Internet sending her love letters, she soon will. No questions asked.

CNC milling machines are becoming more and more common in factories, but rarely do we get to see one in action – and certainly not doing something as cool as this.

Sit back and watch as Daishin Seiki uses a Deckel Maho duoBlock 5-Axis HyperMILL to work its robotic magic, carving an intricate 3D helmet from a solid 264 lb. (120kg) block of aluminum:

In addition to Iron Man, Tigerpause has created helmets from Star Wars, Halo, and Transformers. While some of them look a little flimsy (especially the Transformers helmets), the Iron Man helmets look pretty awesome. The Master Chief helmet is also pretty cool. Tiger typically uses parts from costumes and kids toys to decorate an underlying motorcycle helmet structure.

I can just imagine modders who’ve customized their motorcycles riding around on their bikes with these helmets on. Too bad these helmets would have to stay on a pedestal or your garage if you don’t want to get pulled over by the cops.

I wear a motorcycle helmet everyday, but I don’t think I’d get one of these, even if they were legal. I prefer a stealthy style that’s not too loud and garish.

The Ferrari helmet is designed for motorcyclists and it comes in black or silver colors. The silver is pictured here with beige leather and it looks really cool. The front section with the shield is a little dorky though. Still, the helmet is $356.31 and it’s honestly not clear if that is USD or in other currency. The helmet is noted to not be homologated for the U.S., Canada, or Mexico.

I would assume that to mean it doesn’t meet U.S. safety specs. That is odd considering Ferrari is a brand that puts thought into safety and the U.S.is one of its largest markets. The outside is some sort of thermoplastic polymer and the inside is a DuPont fabric that is antistatic and anti-allergic. The helmet meets ECE 22.05 standards.

The USB-rechargeable halo can be set to constant-on, or to flash on a regular basis. Sure, your bike might already have LED front and rear lights, but drivers coming from anywhere other than head-on or behind you might not see you – making dark intersections especially dangerous. With this bright yellow halo wrapped around your dome, there’s no way that drivers will miss you. Of course, they might point and laugh – resulting in a different kind of  safety risk – driver distraction. At least they’ll have a good laugh before they crash.

What Jonathan invented is a concept for a kid-friendly helmet that looks like something a LEGO minifig would wear in space. Inside the padded helmet are speakers so the wearer can hear the comics be read with and follow along with the story. The helmet even has controls on the side for volume and skipping pages.

On the back of the helmet is a USB port for plugging in a flash drive with the comic audio file on it. The idea is that the print comic would come in the mail, an included code would allow the user to download the audio, and then plugging the flash drive with the audio in would start the storytelling.

On the front of the helmet is a small light to help people see you. The back has a small red light for those coming up behind you and on each side of the helmet are orange lights that look like an “on” switch to me. When the rider is cycling along, those lights on the side of the helmet act as blinkers.

The rider would slap their ear area and the blinkers would activate to show the drivers which way you are turning. This looks like the exact helmet Tron would have worn when learning to ride his light cycle as a child.

While the Blink is currently just a concept design, there’s really no reason why we won’t see this come to market at some point soon.
