diy group tetris costume will earn you lots of candy

filed under: geek art & craft | just plain fun

I was looking around for an interesting Halloween costume when I came across this awesome 5-person Tetris costume!

The great thing about this costume is that unlike some other group costumes, you would be very recognizable apart or together. The bad thing is that it looks insanely uncomfortable and awkward to haul around all those cardboard boxes…

pac-man quilt with moving pieces

filed under: geek art & craft | retro | video games

While this isn’t the first Pac-Man quilt we’ve ever seen, I would argue it’s the best. Why? Because the Pac-Man and ghost pieces are movable, so you can play with them on the quilty game board!

The blue parts are appliqued on with yellow buttons sewn on for the dots. The characters are hand-sewn for maximum cuteness!

Crafter Curegreed made this as a treat for her boyfriend…

dalek shoes do the exterminating for you

filed under: geek art & craft | retro

Love Dr. Who? Then have I got a shoe for you! A Dalek shoe, to be true. Yup, that’s a pair of handpainted Daleks gracing those black sneakers.

These shoes are no one-note craft, though. In addition to the Dalek painting on the front, you’ve also got “EXTERMINATE” written on the back…

filed under: geek art & craft | just plain fun | retro

You could carry your laptop around in a boring old bag, or you could be really cool and tote it in awesomely retro style with this Etch-A-Sketch laptop carrier.

Crafter Betz White made this one for her brother Roger’s birthday, so she called it a Rog-A-Sketch. The cool carrier is made from wool felt with Velcro closures and has button knobs that really turn…

Nintendo Lunch Box

Do you love Nintendo AND tasty noontime sandwiches? If you do, then this Nintendo case lunchbox project is probably right up your alley.

Here’s the skinny: you open up the Nintendo case, take out the guts, file down the interior plastic rods with a rotary tool, attach hinges, reglue the power buttons on, and voila!..

welcome robot awkwardly greets people for you

filed under: geek art & craft | robotics

Welcome Robot 1.5 is a funky little homemade robot that greets people in your absence. It was made by Armanda Lewis as part of 5 Projects in 5 Days. That means she had to make the robot, from start to finish, in only one day.

Welcome Robot 1.5 is red and yellow as an homage to Ironman. When you turn him on, the LED lights come on to let you know he’s in sensing mode…

arkanoid cross stitch more fun than actually playing arkanoid

filed under: geek art & craft | retro | strange and wonderful

Arkanoid Cross-Stitch

Do you remember the classic video game Arkanoid? Some people do, and rather fondly, as evidenced by this elaborate cross stitched homage to it.

I’m not sure what’s up with the Philip K. Dick quote on there but I’m sure there’s a good reason for it. Artist Eunice Szpillman was asked to do the artwork for the Spanish video game mag SuperJuegos Xtreme…
