rcomplex: don’t let the giant squid catch you

rcomplex

I’m not really sure what all is going on with rComplex beyond the fact that I’m certain a giant squid-thing chasing you is bad (very, very bad), but the stark, simple visuals made me stop in my tracks. When a giant squid-thing is chasing you, that’s probably also bad.

For something so simple, rComplex is absolutely stunning,…

ds horror shooter dementium returns for sequel with best game box ever

nintendo ds dementium ii

Dementium: The Ward broke some untrodden ground on the Nintendo DS, as an M-rated horror-themed shooter, so it isn’t particularly surprising that the game is getting a sequel. What is surprising (and amazing) is this cover shot.

Well, that’ll sure get your attention when  you’re just flipping past game covers at the store.
Renegade Kid was very…

amigurumi: cutifying even the worst of alien horrors

amigurumi necromorph dead space

There’s not much that’s cute about EA’s Dead Space. The very name is terrifying, and the game’s Necromorphs are among some of gaming’s most disturbing creatures. Basically, it’s the worst candidate for amigurumi ever… and yet, look! That little Necromorph is adorable!

Just look at those little yarn tentacle-grippy-crawly things pouring out of his mouth.…

Japanese director Takashi Shimizu, the man behind the series Ju-on (The Grudge), has turned to the Nintendo Wii as his next vehicle for pursuit of the franchise. In the recent Famitsu, he revealed a game tentatively titled Feel that is based on The Grudge.

Feel seems to capture the particular brand of Japanese horror quite well, from…

twisted crafter creates horrible gingerbread creatures

gingerbread-ctulhu

Crafter/felt baker/goth pastry master ckrolczyk probably got tired of seeing lookalike gingerbread men and set out to redeem the great Gingerbread name with these wacky, felt gingerbread…beings. I would expect no less from someone with a username like ckrolczyk. First up, Gingerbread Cthulhu:

And then we have Gingerbread Zombie:

Gingerbread Zombie reminds me of me.…

american mcgee’s alice returns for new ea game

american mcgee alice ea horror action wonderland

It’s been almost a decade since American McGee’s twisted take on a Wonderland fueled by insanity, American McGee’s Alice, but Electronic Arts is teaming up with McGee’s Spicy Horse to produce a sequel to the gothic game. Why now, you ask? Why not, says I, for it’s never a bad time to give scowls and…

vest dressed to kill: resident evil vests on ebay

rpd-cv-vest-back

Of all the strange things that we have seen and heard and killed in the Resident Evil series, one strange thing stands out in my mind, in the same way that in RE games objects that can be picked up and interacted with tend to sparkle and have more vivid colors: why the hell is Raccoon…

star wars deathtroopers: space opera horror?

deathtroopers-cover

James Cameron’s Aliens didn’t really scare me. The aliens were disgusting, sure, but not scary. I don’t know, I guess I prefer supernatural stuff; there’s just something about sci-fi and the outer space as a setting that ruins it for me.
I mean, I think it’s more likely for me to be possessed and crawl down…

what’s kraken: knitted cthulhu penguin

knitted cthulhu penguin

Below the thunders of the upper deep; far, far beneath in the abysmal sea, his ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep, The Cthulhu Penguin sleepeth:

There hath he lain for ages and lay battening upon huge sea-worms in his sleep, until Ravelry member Carly Zimmerman created a pattern and shared it for all to knit and see; then once again…
