We have seen plenty of the USB connected turntables over the years that can play your vinyl records and convert the track to digital files. The devices are perfect for the people that want their old school tunes on an iPod or other MP3 player. ION has been making and offering these sort of things for a while.

At CES 2012, the company has rolled out a new turntable called the Duo Deck. It gets its name because not only will it convert your 33-1/3or 45 RPM vinyl records to digital tracks, it also has a cassette player in the back that will convert your 80′s cassette collection to digital too. The deck also works as a standalone turntable and tape player, thanks to a built-in speaker. It even will run on batteries.

The device comes with EZ Converter software and Audacity software to clean up the tracks once they make their way to your PC or Mac. ION didn’t talk price or availability yet, but it should be around $100 or so I’d figure. ION is rarely way out there with their pricing. This may be the best way yet to get those Milli Vanilli cassette and records onto your iPod.

A while back, the guys at ThinkGeek made an April Fools joke where they turned an iPad into an arcade cabinet. Now, the guys over at ION have taken the concept and made it real.

The iCade cabinet is constructed out of the same materials you’d find in a real arcade, plus it’s got an authentic full-size arcade joystick and eight buttons. You just snap your iPad into the dock, and you’ll be playing classic arcade games right on your desktop. Surprisingly, the controls connect via Bluetooth instead of a dock connector, but they seem to have no noticeable lag.

ION had a demo unit on display at CES this week, and I got to play with it a bit. While the only game they had on display was Asteroids (which doesn’t really need a joystick), I have to say it was a pleasure to play. I couldn’t really hold my camera and play at the same time, so this video doesn’t show it off, but trust me when I say it’s fun.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The final version of the iCade will ship with an assortment of Atari games – although it’s not clear if they’re included or if you’ll need to buy them at the App Store. However, you won’t be able to play other games on it unless they’re customized to take advantage of the joystick and buttons. Happily, they plan on releasing a developer API, so I assume many more iCade compatible games will come out in the App Store over time.

ThinkGeek says the iCade will sell for $99, and will be available for order this Spring. Get your name on the order notification list now.

ECS surprised a lot of folks at the recently started Computex exhibition in Taipei by presenting a vase. Not an antique vase, but a PC vase, complete with optical drive. It’s sleek and funny and your mom’s gonna love it.

Don’t squint at the image, I’ll tell you what’s written on the card: the PC-in-a-vase runs on an Intel Atom 230 CPU, a Nvidia ION GPU and 1 GB of DDR3 RAM. The vase even has what netbooks don’t have: an optical drive, and it’s Blu-ray at that.

The refreshingly designed PC uses 2.5″ HDDs for storage. A power jack, 2 USB ports, an Ethernet port and an HDMI port can be found at the bottom of the vase, which justifies the raised wooden base. See? form and function.

The on/off switch as well as what looks like a vent can be found at the mouth of the vase.

Even though the PC-in-a-vase is just a concept, it’s proof of how far computer technology has come. And also how Brando-like ECS is. But seriously, ECS just made envisioning a future where computers are embedded into pretty much anything so much easier. I want a PC-in-a-wall.
