If the Smart Qwerty remote wasn’t hardcore enough for you, Conspin’s got one more remote control that you should check out, the ANDI-ONE. Actually calling it a remote control is like calling any modern smartphone a “phone”. For starters, it can control up to 50 devices at once, and is compatible with over 10,000 devices. Oh it’s a remote alright, but that’s just one of the things that it does.

The ANDI-ONE can interact with devices via Wi-Fi, IR or RF. It also remembers the last 20 actions that you made, so you can quickly search the list and repeat them, although frankly I don’t know exactly how this works, or what it counts as an action. You can also set up macros and organize devices by room. Downloading channel guides is also an option.

But more than that, the Android 2.1 remote is also a portable media player. It can have up to 8GB of internal memory and supports microSD cards up to 64GB. You can watch videos on its 3.5″ touchscreen, connect a 3.5mm jack or just use its built-in speakers and play tracks on it, and you can even download and use over 10,000 Android apps. You can even make VOIP calls on it. And what about its charging cradle? In addition to having a couple of 3W speakers, an HDMI port and an Ethernet port, you can also dock an iPhone or iPad on it.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

I wonder why the remote in the video has a different layout than the one on Conspin’s website; must be a prototype or something. Anyway, now that you know what the ANDI-ONE is capable of, you’d be a fool to think that this remote is cheap. Its suggested retail price is $350 (USD), but Krex already has it listed at about $290. They’re out of stock right now though. If you’re looking to replace your your remote and your Android media player, keep an eye out for the ANDI-ONE.

There are plenty of infrared lenses and night-vision cameras out there, but this cheap little digital camera is a really affordable way of getting into IR photography. Naturally, any photos you take will look a bit strange and bizarre but that doesn’t stop the Midnight Shot NV-1 Night Vision Camera from being a fun little cam.

The camera itself has a 5MP sensor and can record VGA video. That’s somewhat basic, but since it can shoot in IR, it makes up for it. It’s got an IR illuminator to light up the world in the dark. . It can also take normal shots, but who cares about that? With the IR mode on, plants will highlight like ghosts, and humans will look like aliens. While it may or may not be able to take photos as good as the one below by Bill Gracey, it’s certainly worth a shot.

The Midnight Shot sells for $129.99 (USD) over at ThinkGeek, and since the camera captures both infrared and visible wavelengths, you’ll want to add a cheap infrared filter to get the best night shots possible.

I’ve always enjoyed modern art, but involving the viewer with these paintings that only become visible after you take a photo with your cell phone or your camera is genius.

The project is called Take a Picture and it was created by Brad Blucher and Kyle Clements, two artists from Toronto. Their paintings are actually IR LED mosaics that are assembled behind blank canvases. This means that they are completely invisible to the naked eye. However, the IR light is detectable by the CCD sensor in your digital camera or your smartphone.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

It’s kind of like augmented reality, since you can only see the image through the camera’s lens. I like the fact that they used IR LEDs to get this effect, not just IR paint so they can display different images at different times if they wanted to.

WowWee’s new FlyTech Bladestar is a crazy looking flying machine which lifts itself using a helicopter-like spinning rotor, hovering through your living room with ease.

But the real cool factor is a special autopilot mode which lets the Bladestar atuomatically avoid ceilings and other obstacles. Heck, you can even steer it by waving your hands in front of it. If you’d rather have more precise control over your flyer, just use the included digital IR remote control.

Thanks to the multi-channel remote system, you can even fly two Bladestars at the same time and take down your friend in Dogfight mode. It’s all made from a durable crash-resistant materials, and safe to fly indoors.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The spinning blade design sort of reminds me of those annoying Manhacks from Half-Life 2. Unfortunately, these ones don’t have deadly metal saw blades mounted on them. Oh well.

Still, they do look pretty cool even if they won’t decapitate your enemies. You can get your hands on the Flytech Bladestar over on Amazon for just under $50 bucks.

This new remote from Sunwave does a good job standing out from the crowd by offering multi-color LED backlighting for its touchscreen interface.

The Sunwave SRC-3200 lets you choose from 7 different backlight colors and an LCD touch panel display that only shows relevant buttons for the current device. It also features such conveniences as a motion sensor that automatically turns on the backlight when picked up. The learning remote has 512k of flash memory and can store 2 pages of soft keys each for up to 8 devices. In addition, it features a nice aluminum case, instead of the cheap plastic one found on most remotes. The remote will also offer PC based software and the ability to upgrade firmware.

No pricing or release date has been announced. Sunwave just says it’s “Coming Soon.”

The video seems to prove that all the hard work is done by the Wii-mote itself, and that you can even run the system without the sensor bar in place as long as you have another source of IR for the remote to triangulate off of (in this case a pair of regular old IR remote control.) Be sure to check out the end of the video, where the camcorder actually picked up the IR output from the sensor bar.
