It turns out we don’t have to journey for a long, long time or travel far, far away if we want to be Jedi, because there’s an academy right here on Earth. The New York Jedi club offers classes for Star Wars fans on using lightsabers. Or at least replicas of lightsabers, and I don’t think they have a course on the use of the Force either.

The classes are run by Flynn Michael, who doesn’t seem to teach an actual fighting technique so much as share the style and choreography of lightsaber battles from the Star Wars prequels. Obviously the biggest draw about the club is the community, meeting and playing with other fans. Because no Padawan wants to role play alone. Here’s a short feature on the club by Diagonal UK:

Use the force of the Web and head to the New York Jedi website for more info, or to apply as a Jedi Web Designer. I wonder if there’s also a Sith Academy somewhere in this wide and strange world of ours. But at only two members maximum that will be a much lonelier club.

I really like the design of this alarm clock, based on the Jedi training remote Luke Skywalker used in the original Star Wars. It really does look like it. But instead of firing sparks of electricity at your lightsaber, this orb is designed to wake Jedi younglings from their slumber.

While I wish you had to slash it with a lightsaber to shut it off, they decided that you’re supposed to throw it across the room in order to shut the alarm off. I suppose that’s a good way to get your aggression out first thing in the morning, but I’d be afraid that I’d break it (or something else in its path of destruction.) It’s not like it looks like this thing is made from rubber after all.

To make your morning routine more challenging, be sure to wear a helmet with the blast shield down when you reach for it.

The Jedi Training Remote Alarm Clock should be out this April/May. I haven’t found a U.S. retailer yet, but they are available for pre-order now over at Australia’s Frontline Hobbies for $29.99 (AUS) (~$32 USD) and at UK seller ForbiddenPlanet for £19.99 (~$31 USD).

After his Super Bros collection, featuring all sorts of my favorite characters rendered with some pixel love, Ty Lettau is back with some Star Wars love. This time around, he focuses on the battles between good and evil, Light Side and Dark Side, Jedi and Sith.

His minimal Star Wars characters remind me of Mega Man, which is appropriate since they’re supposed to be in Mega Star Wars. The funniest thing is that when I take my glasses off, the images become smooth, and less pixelated, which is cool, but reminds me that my eyesight is gradually going.

I wonder if we’ll ever end up playing as these characters in some retro platformer on Xbox Live. I sure hope so.

I’ve seen loads of different Star Wars promos over the years, but this epic Star Wars battle is a pretty good one. To celebrate the official launch of BioWare’s Star Wars: The Old Republic video game, EA set an army of Jedi and Sith loose on Times Square, lightsabers in hand.

This battle between good and evil was staged on Tuesday, December 20th, 2011, and involved about 100 or so people having a good old lightsaber-battle. Of course, the Jedi had blue sabers and the Sith donned red ones.

It must have been pretty awesome to witness up close, especially if you’re a Star Wars fan. Would you have wanted to be a Jedi or a Sith?

All that’s left to decide is how you’re going to fit in enough time to mess with The Old Republic while still playing Skyrim 100 hours a month.

A man armed with two lightsabers went a little crazy in Toys R Us in Hillsboro, Portland, Oregon. It’s not clear whether 33 year-old David Allen Canterbury, who assaulted people with toy lightsabers at Toys R Us, was working alone, or if he had a Sith Master. Always two there are.

Anyway, someone called 911. Officers tried to arrest the man, but he kept swinging the lightsabers at them. One tried to use his Taser but the device didn’t work. This was likely the result of his force powers. Another officer successfully used his Taser, but the lightsaber deflected the wires.

Eventually he was arrested and taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation. I have heard that some of the hospital staff claim to have seen him talking with holograms. I wonder if he was asking for Obi Wan Kenobi’s help.

Apparently, journalists have vastly differing opinions on whether Jedi Knights are Libertarians, Socialists, or Sensible Centrists. Although there’s nothing in there about the Tea Party or the Whigs. The crazy thing about the article is that it tells us how there are over 390,000 followers of the Jedi faith in the UK – according to recent census results. England even has a Jedi Member of Parliament. I wonder how many Jedis there are in the US?

These Jedi bath robes are made from soft cotton velour, which is the first thing that comes to mind when I think “Jedi”. As a matter of fact, I think Old Ben Kenobi once said something like “A Jedi can feel the Force flowing through his velour robe.” But I could be remembering the line wrong.

The Jedi bath robe is available for pre-order now over at Find Me a Gift, and sells for £59.99 (appx. $95 USD). Just remember not to use your lightsaber in the tub or you might electrocute yourself.

I can see how this could be fun, but if you show this to a Star Wars geek he’ll probably shake his head, gather his robes and walk away. Some guy who looks like a mugger took 2 glow sticks, put them together with a link chain and voila! Lightsaber nunchucks. Or maybe he just stole it from a Jedi. I’m kidding. Good job Muggerman.

Knowing what it’s made of, you can easily make and possibly even sell your own version of lightsaber nunchucks. Just know that the glowing part is supposed to be pure energy, so if you really had a pair of lightsaber nunchucks, you can only hold them once. And then you won’t be able to hold anything at all.

Unless you were wearing gloves with a cortosis weave. But then that would short out the lightsaber. I will stop now.

Quick survey! Which would you prefer? Sparkly albino vampire vs. dirty raggedy vampire baseball, or Jedi vs. Sith baseball? In other words, are you a young girl or are you an old nerd? Don’t say “both”. Because I have no vampire stuff right now, only these cool Drew Pearson Star Wars jerseys.

These cotton knit baseball jerseys from Drew Pearson Marketing feature the strongest of the strong in Soul Calibur. I meant in Star Wars. The Jedi jersey’s number is done in felt applique, while the letters are in tackle twill with satin stitch embroidery. I don’t know what that means but you might. What’s weird though is that the only available sizes are M, L, XL and XXL. Come on Drew Pearson Marketing. Yoda is XXXS. A bit of respect here.

If you like playing for the dark side, then the Sith jersey is for you. It’s also a cotton knit jersey with all numbers and letters done in felt applique. Both Sith and Jedi jerseys have “official woven loop” Star Wars labels on them. What makes the label official? I don’t know. Trade Federation approval?

The Vader hockey jersey is more Dark Side-y than the baseball one. It has “flaming Vader” graphics, and on the sleeves there are tiny “Sith League” logos set off by metal studs. And on the front is a mugshot of a genocidal man.

For those who prefer a game of hoops, and by that I mean either 2k9 or Live, I have two words for you: Rocket Pack.

All of the uniforms sell for $110, except for the Fett one which goes for $100. There are also football jerseys and a Dark Side basketball jersey. Force click the link below to see them all.

Okay just click the link with your puny mouse.

Were those lightsaber laser pointers just too tiny to satisfy your man-sized Star Wars hunger? Then wrap your hands around one of these full-sized lightsaber replicas which you can actually customize to your own liking.

The Force FX Lightsaber Contstruction Kit gives you everything you need to create your own blade. These Master Replicas Lightsabers come with parts to make hundreds of different saber designs.

The blade color can be switched between red, green or blue thanks to its tri-colored LEDs. Like other Force FX Lightsabers, it features authentic movie sound effects for power up/down, idle, swing and impact movements. The sounds even change depending on which blade color you choose.

So if you can’t decide whether you’re Jedi, Sith or something else altogether, the $99.99 kit is available in very limited quantities over on Amazon.
