There is something about a girl that embraces her inner geek and revels in it. It’s all the better when that geeky gal also happens to be cute. Check out this fun project that comes from a girl named MaDonna, who satisfies all of the above criteria.

These are fingerless gloves, or what I would call gauntlets. They are crocheted out of yarn and look like a couple of Nintendo Game Boys. I bet that these would keep your geeky mitts nice and toasty with the winter coming up. I think they are pretty cool, not that I would wear them. I don’t embrace my inner geek quite that much.

If you want to knit a pair for yourself, you will have to use your imagination though, MaDonna doesn’t offer up a pattern for the gloves. If you can pull these off with no pattern let us know. All we know is that to make them, she used Paton’s Classic Wool in Natural Marl, Lion’s Brand Jiffy in Citron, and Red Heart Super Saver in Black, Red, and soft white.

While I have trouble calling any sock a spin-off sock, that’s what creator and knitter Ellen Botilda calls her TARDIS tribute socks. They were based on another pattern, but slightly altered. Now, all that I have to find is someone who will knit a pair of these for me!

Swallowed by Sky made the first TARDIS socks, but Ellen played with the design a bit before making her own. I don’t knit, so I don’t know how hard this is, but the best part is that the pattern is available for free here. Apparently they are easy to make if you do know how to knit.

I think what I like best is the patterning on this sock. It’s not just the colors that are used to show the paneling on the TARDIS, but the windowpane pattern is reproduced through the knit itself.

I’ve always loved toques, but I have shied away from decorative ones. Check out this Bender toque that was crocheted by hand by Cheewawamomma!

You have to admit that Bender is one of the most likable robots on TV, given his sunny disposition. Although I’m not sure if the kid wearing the toque should be having her mind corrupted by watching Futurama yet, adults sure can enjoy it. I guess that’s why the hat is covering up her eyes and ears.

All in all, it looks pretty amazing, although not as amazing as the artist’s Bender toilet paper cozy…

While these items were gifts for Cheewawamomma’s friends and family, you can probably order some custom-designed toques and toilet paper cozies over at her Etsy shop.

For some reason, the red version looks more like Dr. Zoidberg than Cthulhu to me, though. I always wanted to go as Zoidberg for Halloween, so maybe I’ll get that one for my costume for next year. I’ll just need some lobster claws to go with it.

Actually, no. It actually has to be cool. Here’s a little something for you gamer grlz out there who have a fond place in your hearts for your old Nintendo Game Boy.

Textile crafter Amber over at Sew-Oeno is seen here modeling her latest creation, the Nintendo Game Boy tube dress. It’s made out of a gray knit fabric and embellished with the familiar red and black buttons and grey screen of the classic 8-bit handheld.

While it’s not as functional as say, the actual working Game Boy costume, it is pretty cool for someone who can actually fit into a tube dress. And while you’ll probably wear this thing with black tights underneath, you could always wear a pair Space Invaders tights with them if you feel really confident.

The medium-sized Game Boy tube dress can be found over at Sew-Oeno’s Etsy shop for $60 (USD). She’ll also quote you for one in your size if you drop her a note.

It’s so soft! So cushy! So eerily suggestive! Seriously, a little color variation or something might have kept the ship from looking so phallic. Did Serenity look like that in space? Oh well, I guess it just makes this ship hug-proof, so it can sit on a shelf and be admired.

And if you happen to have a little shelf space of your own and a pair of ready knitting needles, you can whip one of these up for your own browncoat self, since there’s a free pattern available. Firefly fans are a generous lot.

I’m not even gonna lie: the hat in this post is expensive. At $63, that hat should not only keep my head warm, but also style my hair for me, thus saving precious time in my morning routine. I’m pretty sure that’s not the case. Instead, this hat is imbued with the special power of making everyone within a two mile radius stare at you… but Noby Noby Boy fans tend to dig that sort of thing.

Noby Noby Boy, from the creator of Katamari Damacy, is a PSN game, and just in case you’ve forgotten what the hero looks like in non hat-and-scarf form, please allow me to remind you:

All things considered, that hat-and-scarf combo could have been a lot more embarrassing. As it is, it’s only embarrassingly adorable.

Toad is probably the cutest character from the Mario ‘verse (Mario in various boots and outfits aside), but he doesn’t show up as often as many of the other characters in crafts outside of cosplay, which is why I was so thrilled to see this adorable knitted version.

He’s all fat and puffy and soft, like a sock monkey but about six hundred times (I measured) better. But what’s one iconic Mario character? Lonely, that’s what. Gotta have something to complete the set… like a piranha plant!

Upside down and clearly panicked Toad does not approve, but I sure do. Flickr user and knitter SkyRacer8 has a number of knit plushies on display, from an adorable Totoro to some more random items.

And all japes aside, this outfit is beautifully well made. Kind of makes me wish I could knit, but unless I’m holding a game controller, my fingers are pretty stupid.

This little outfit was made by craftster UpKnitCreek (heh) for a friend’s baby shower. That’s the kind of friend you keep forever, and the sort of outfit you store away forever, too. Oh, how convenient. The gift also included a baby blanket… and a box to keep it all in.

And these aren’t just regular knitted meerkats, but Star Trek meerkats, circa the original series. But if you prefer your meerkats to bow to Captain Picard, Oddy can hook you up with a Next Generation set.

Of meerkats. In Star Trek uniforms. And you can get a set for £22, or around $36 U.S.

Parappa the Rapper has got to be one of the greatest rhythm matching games of all time. From its whimsical 2D cartoon character designs to its hysterical lyrics, it’s a true classic. Now you can pay homage to the paper-thin Parappa by donning the same hat that the eponymous paper-thin dog wore in the game.

Handcrafted by worthysoycandles, the bright orange crocheted skullcap is a perfect match to Parappa’s original, complete with the goofy green frog. The hat is the perfect accessory for those all-night Guitar Hero III and Rock Band jam sessions. After all, most of today’s music games owe at least a little nod to the square-headed rapping canine.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

But you’d better kick-punch-chop-block your way on over to Etsy if you want to cover your noggin with this cap. There’s no telling when she’ll crochet another one.

Kansas City crafter n2Imaginations hand makes these custom sweaters from acrylic yarn to keep you nice and toasty on those cold Winter nights.

Just like those crazy knits that your Aunt Mildred wears at Christmas, the Space Invaders sweater is a bit of sensory overload for my eyes. But it is an accurate recreation of the arcade classic, so what can you do? I especially dig the little scoring chart on the sleeve.

So if you’ve just gotta have anything with the Space Invaders on it, you can pick one up on her Etsy shop for $60.

Artist Carey Huffman hand knit these little versions of the yellow dot gobbler along with his ghostly pals Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde.
These seem like the perfect companion for the knit iPhone and the felt Nintendo.

This week, some kid’s Mom was way too cool, and knit him a wool iPhone. Please to enjoy…

As far as I know, this version doesn’t require a 2-year contract with AT&T, and the screen doesn’t smudge.
